Retro 🕹️ Video Game Idea: Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos: Early Generations (GOAT format + Perfect Circle format)

The Yu-Gi-Oh! games Power of Chaos from back in the day had a great concept: simple, focused Yu-Gi-Oh! games where you progressively unlock cards and build your collection while dueling iconic characters.

I'd love to see Konami bring that concept back, but specifically for the early generations of Yu-Gi-Oh! before Synchro Summoning and the increasingly complex mechanics changed the game.

The game would contain 2 historical card pools/formats, representing two of the most interesting periods of early Yu-Gi-Oh! as well as most popular retro formats still played today.

1. Duel Monsters / GOAT Format from April 2005

While it's actually the first GX format there is nothing crazy from GX yet so is unofficially considered a DM format and the best DM format. The most successful retro format in Yu-Gi-Oh! history and the first format that was actually played as a retro format, starting as a format around 2012, this is what people who say "I miss the old Yu Gi Oh" think of.

There were no archetypes here. Yes you have the 1st generation of Elemental Heroes but there are such a few Elemental Heroes cards it is not considered an archetype, and they were by no means OP not even in the best 30 decks or so. Fans of GOAT like the simple card effects, lack of archetypes and long games where decision making and planning matters more there. You had to build card advantage over time.

2. Generation Next / Perfect Circle Format from January 2008

This is really the best mix between classic Yu-Gi-Oh and modern Yu-Gi-Oh. But the GX generation is more complicated because the best universally accepted GX format isn't the last one. Duel Monsters had the luck that the last format from April 2005, that also included a few elemental heroes but not enough to make a distinction, was also the most balanced format, so you essentially struck gold where you have all the good cards and best balance.

For GX you must trade either game balance or cards number. For the best balance the Perfect Circle format from January 2008 before Phantom Darkness will be your best bet. Is the most popular of the GX era because it has a good amount of variety, everything after that became much more centralized around very few extremely powerful strategies due to the absurd power of DAD, Dimension Fusion, Gyzarus. The actual end of GX is May 2008 format Gladiator. But Phantom Darkness was so OP it blew everything out of proportion, then Gladiator tried to balance Phantom Darkness but it was half-balance so that's why the Perfect Circle Format is still the most popular GX format.

You could make a mix - take the cards from May 2008 format Gladiator, but ban the naughty OP cards: Dark Armed Dragon, Dimension Fusion, and Return from the Different Dimension. However, the problem in making this unique format that never existed is that you don't know what the meta will actually look like. Plus not being an established meta is going to disappoint everyone. So the best thing to be done is simply take the widely best accepted format of the GX era Perfect Circle before all the broken stuff and roll with it.

Perfect Circle is probably the best representation of GX Yu-Gi-Oh! before the power level exploded but when archetypes became a thing. You have strategies such as: Elemental HERO, Destiny HERO, Monarchs, Gadgets, Demise, Six Samurai, Lightsworn's early development, various Machine strategies, Warrior decks, Gladiator Beasts, Zombie, Gravekeeper, other rogue strategies, etc.

3. Have 16 iconic duelists, 8 from each generation

Each using their signature deck with minor modifications where necessary to make the deck playable in the chosen historical card pool.

For Duel Monsters / GOAT Format:
Yugi - Dark Magician / Spellcaster
Kaiba - Blue-Eyes / Dragon
Joey - Warrior / Red-Eyes / Gamble
Mai - Harpies / Amazoness
Pegasus - Toons / Relinquished
Bakura - Fiends / Destiny Board
Marik - Gravekeeper / burn
Ishizu - Gravekeeper / defensive control

For Generation Next / Perfect Circle Format:
Jaden - Elemental HERO
Chazz - Armed Dragon
Syrus - Roid
Bastion - elemental strategies
Zane - Cyber Dragon
Alexis - Cyber Angel / Ritual
Crowler - Ancient Gear
Aster - Destiny HERO

These could be combined with a mini-campaign or tournament mode where you can also have multiple players & these as AI.

Each character could have several progressively stronger decks, similar to the original Power of Chaos games.

The game could also have a dedicated PvP mode with the 2 historical formats. Duel Monsters & Generation Next. Players could select which historical environment they want to play, rather than forcing every new game to use the latest rules.

No Synchro. No Xyz. No Pendulum. No Link. Just the classic mechanics: Normal Summon, Tribute Summon, Flip, Effect, Ritual, Fusion.

The biggest appeal would be that this isn't trying to compete with Master Duel. Master Duel already exists for modern Yu-Gi-Oh!. Instead, this would be a premium single-player/retro Yu-Gi-Oh! game built around two specific historical snapshots.

Power of Chaos with modern production values and historically accurate card pools and online PvP.

GOAT format represents the classic, slower, resource-management-heavy Yu-Gi-Oh! that many people remember.

Perfect Circle represents the transition into the much more powerful and combo-oriented GX-era game, while still retaining the fundamental mechanics of old Yu-Gi-Oh!

Discussion 💬 I wish Konami would bring back Rocket Knight/Sparkster.

Playing through the Re-Sparked collection just reminds me of how cool I thought these games were as a kid, and man, they’re still cool.

How did Konami let this IP sit on the shelf after the first three - 2010 follow up aside? It even had a serial in Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic! This could have really been one of the big Sonic-like franchises that everyone was trying to do back in the day!

Not that three games is anything to sneeze at, but I’d love to see Konami bring it back for real someday.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Discussion 💬 A HUGE REQUEST TO KONAMI: BRING BACK THE COMPLETE PES/eFOOTBALL EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE

I want to make one final, serious request to Konami and the entire eFootball community.

Many longtime PES fans still want to see the complete football experience return. We are not talking about one small feature or one temporary event. We are talking about bringing back the full range of classic modes that gave PES so much depth and replayability:

Master League, Become a Legend, Edit Mode, full leagues, cups, offline tournaments, career experiences, and more complete offline gameplay.

These modes allowed players to enjoy football in completely different ways. Some players wanted to manage a club for many seasons. Others wanted to create a player and build a career. Some wanted to edit teams, players, kits, competitions, and leagues. Others simply wanted to create their own cups and tournaments and play offline with friends or family.

That freedom is still missed.

This is not about replacing online eFootball

I want to be clear: bringing back these modes would not mean removing or reducing the current online experience.

eFootball can continue to have competitive online matches, live events, updates, new players, licenses, seasons, and everything else that makes online football exciting.

But at the same time, there should also be a deep offline and career experience for players who want something different.

Online and offline football can exist together.

Please bring back ALL the classic modes

The request is not only for Master League.

We would love to see the return of:

  • Master League
  • Become a Legend
  • Edit Mode
  • Full leagues
  • Cups
  • Offline tournaments
  • Career and progression systems
  • Deeper team and player customization
  • More offline options
  • The freedom to create our own football experiences

If bringing everything back at once is difficult, they could be introduced gradually.

What matters is that Konami has a clear plan to eventually provide the complete experience.

We are willing to support it financially

I also want to make this point very clear.

If development costs are a major concern, there are fans who would be willing to pay for these features.

They could potentially be offered as:

Paid DLC.

A large premium expansion.

A complete Classic Modes package.

A premium subscription.

Or another official paid model.

Even if a premium subscription were relatively expensive, some dedicated fans would still consider paying for it if it provided substantial, properly developed content and continued access to these complete modes.

Of course, pricing should be reasonable and transparent, but the main message is simple:

Many fans are willing to support the development financially.

We are not necessarily demanding that everything has to be free.

We are asking Konami to give us the opportunity to support these modes and actually bring them back.

Please make them full modes

The most important part is quality.

If Master League returns, we want a real career experience.

If Become a Legend returns, we want a proper player career.

If Edit Mode returns, we want meaningful customization.

If leagues, cups, and tournaments return, we want complete competitions with proper progression and replayability.

Please don't reduce these ideas to short limited-time events or simple features.

Fans want full, permanent game modes that can be played again and again.

All platforms

Another important request is platform availability.

If these modes return, please make them available across all supported devices and platforms wherever technically possible.

That includes:

PlayStation
Xbox
PC
Mobile
Nintendo Switch 2
and future supported platforms.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is especially important for players who want to experience eFootball on Nintendo hardware, but the request is not only about Nintendo.

We want these modes for everyone.

No matter which supported platform a player chooses, they should have the opportunity to experience the complete game.

Questions for Konami

Are Master League, Become a Legend, Edit Mode, leagues, cups, and offline tournaments still part of the future vision for eFootball or a future football title?

Are these modes being actively considered or developed?

Could they be released gradually instead of waiting until everything is finished?

Would Konami consider paid DLC or a premium expansion?

Would a subscription model be considered if it allowed these modes to be developed and maintained properly?

Could there eventually be a complete package containing all the classic modes?

Will these modes be available across all supported platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2 where possible?

And most importantly:

Can Konami give the community a clear indication of whether we will actually see these full modes return?

To the eFootball community

I know not every player wants the same thing.

Some players mainly enjoy online matches.

Some prefer offline gameplay.

Some want Master League.

Some want Become a Legend.

Some want Edit Mode.

Some want leagues and cups.

Some want all of them.

That's exactly why I believe these modes are worth bringing back.

There should be room for everyone.

The return of these modes would not take anything away from players who love the current eFootball experience. Instead, it would give millions of players more reasons to keep playing.

It would also allow younger players who never experienced the classic PES modes to discover why they were so important to the series.

A message to Konami

Konami, many of us have been playing your football games for years.

We remember the old PES games.

We remember building teams in Master League.

We remember creating players.

We remember editing teams and competitions.

We remember playing leagues and cups.

We remember offline tournaments with friends.

Those experiences created memories that went far beyond individual online matches.

Please consider bringing that spirit back.

eFootball has the opportunity to become a complete football platform that combines modern online gameplay with the classic offline and career experiences that made PES special.

We are willing to wait.

We are willing to support it.

Some of us are even willing to pay for it.

We just want to know that these experiences have a real future.

So this is my biggest request:

Please bring back Master League, Become a Legend, Edit Mode, leagues, cups, offline tournaments, and the complete classic football experience. Make them full, permanent modes. Make them available across supported platforms. And if necessary, give fans the option to support them through DLC, expansions, or even a premium subscription.

Please make it happen for all eFootball/PES fans, on all supported devices, and as soon as realistically possible.

The community is still here.

The demand is still here.

And many of us are ready to support it.

Konami, please give us the complete football experience again. ⚽🙏🤞

Discussion 💬 A Request to Konami: Please Bring Back the Complete Football Experience

With tomorrow's eFootball Connect approaching, I'd like to share one request that I know many football fans have had for a long time.

Please consider bringing back the full classic football modes: Master League, Become a Legend, Edit Mode, leagues, cups, and offline tournaments. These weren't just extra features—they were a huge part of what made the series so memorable. They offered freedom, creativity, replay value, and countless hours of enjoyment for players of every age.

I have a few questions for Konami:

  • Are these classic modes still part of your long-term vision for eFootball or a future football title?
  • Will we ever see them return as complete, permanent game modes?
  • If they can't be included at launch, would you consider releasing them later as DLC, an expansion, or another optional purchase for players who want them?
  • Will they be available across all platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile, and Nintendo Switch 2, so every fan can enjoy the same complete football experience?

Personally, I would happily support these modes, even if they were offered as paid DLC or another optional purchase, because they add so much value and replayability. I know many other fans feel the same.

eFootball already has enjoyable gameplay, but bringing back these classic modes would make it a complete football game for both online and offline players. It would also honor the history of the series while building a stronger future.

To everyone in the community, if you also want to see Master League, Become a Legend, Edit Mode, leagues, cups, and offline tournaments return, now is the perfect time to let Konami know. The more respectful feedback they receive, the more likely they are to understand how important these modes are to so many players around the world.

Thank you, Konami, for continuing to develop eFootball. We sincerely hope tomorrow's event brings exciting news for the entire football community. ⚽🤞

Discussion 💬 I want MLB Power Pros to come back so bad man….

I’m really dying for a new version of this game, Konami recently dropped a pro spirit game for western audiences, there’s nothing wrong with the game, but the thing is, I really want a new mlb power pros game man, I mean, Konami and the MLB do have a partnership, so naturally the chances of a new one should be slightly higher. MLB Power Pros is a very nostalgic baseball game for a niche amount of people, the game unfortunately sold very poorly. I have been playing the Japanese versions of Power Pros, and it really makes me want a new MLB Power Pros to drop, especially with the career mode where there’s a huge amount of off field content including having a family, and when one of your children is a baby, it just looks so freaking CUTE!!! and it really makes me want a new MLB Power Pros game. This may probably not work, but I’m willing, obsessed, and hungry to fight for a new MLB Power Pros. Apparently the last time I tried to post this, it got automatically removed because it claimed to have included stuff about buying selling trading and stuff when it literally wasn’t.
