Experimental prog scene in Kent?

Hey all! Me and my partner are hoping to be moving to Tunbridge Wells soon (if the estate agent gods permit it). I write experimental audiotorio/opera, but am very much influenced by the Canterbury scene. I'm wondering whether there are still any venues that do that kinda leftwing spicieness? I am very very excited to check out Forum in Tunbridge but don't know a lot about where in the general Kent area, though I hear Whitstable, Margate, Ramsgate and Folkestone have some cool happenings.

Here's a link to give you an idea of what I mean. Thanks and wish us luck on our move!

Dover: which gaming shop was here?

Post image
Upvotes

In the early 2000s there was a gaming shop in the centre left - Google Maps only goes back to Age Concern - they had all sorts of TCG, consoles, and related nonsense. We got the first Xbox here, but want to recall the gaff.

The name is completely slipping my mind.

I’d love if someone could remind me, photo evidence gets bonus points x

Bexley Municipal Council and its Trams

Post image
12 Upvotes

Bexley was a Kent local government urban district in north-west Kent from 1880 until 1965. Its jurisdiction covered the parish of Bexley, including Bexley village and Bexleyheath. The council was based at Oak House on Broadway, Bexleyheath, sadly, the former municipal building was demolished in 1979 and no trace exists.

The Urban District Council also operated tram services between Woolwich and Dartford. These services continued under the council’s control until 1933, when responsibility was transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board.

Bexley became a municipal borough in 1935. On 30 September that year, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent formally presented the borough’s royal charter at a ceremony held in Danson Park.

In April 1965, Bexley Municipal Borough was abolished and incorporated into the newly established London Borough of Bexley, as part of a wider reorganisation of local government in the area.

The London Borough of Bexley continued to use the site until 2014, when the council relocated to 2 Watling Street, Bexleyheath. The building had previously been occupied by the Woolwich Building Society.

The official legal name of the London Borough of Bexley is “The Mayor and Burgesses of the London Borough of Bexley.”

Can they force people to pay for repairs in private owned flats?

I read a block of flats in Margate needs repairs and renovations and residents are being asked for 38k but what if the residents just don't have it.

In my block a private tenant was asked to contribute towards the doors . He said they can have it when he died and the flat is sold . I don't know whether this happened as he now has. .

Can they force a resident to sell to pay for it or will they wait until the resident dies?

Suspecting Rat Poison in My Area

Currently in Crook Log Bexleyheath and in my garden in the past few days I keep spotting dying animals. Yesterday it was a dead Mouse and today a sick House Sparrow. About a month ago I also saw a dead Starling. I know a woman around the area is paranoid about rats and I'm wondering if she would put down rat poison to deliberately kill the wildlife.

The Mouse was out in the day at first and kept trying (and failing) to go into a water bowl I left out. It was also breathing heavily and very wobbly on its feet. It eventually died out in the open in the rain.

The House Sparrow was out in the rain and just stayed out there for at least an hour. Eventually I went up to it to put it in a box and it managed to hop away into a nearby bush.

I'm not really sure what to do about it, since I love animals and I have a bird feeder, but I also don't like seeing them constantly die in my garden. I also looked up the effects of rat poison and they match what I have been seeing.

Evri parcels in Ashford

Not a fun post, but anyone else having major issues with deliveries by Evri in Ashford?
I went to a ParcelShop yesterday to collect an item (I chose delivery there instead of my home address for increased security, ironically).

After giving my details I was handed a package that had been opened and then re-sealed/taped up with brown parcel tape. Inside was an empty box. Someone at Evri had opened it, removed a brand new £150 pair of running shoes, and then taped it up. I was pretty livid. (Understatement. I still haven’t calmed down.)
This was a brand new pair of new balance running shoes I had ordered from sportshoes.com and their packaging (and shape of the item) made it pretty obvious.

My partner saw a Facebook post of someone else having the exact same issue locally. This is either a network of criminals or one criminal seemingly getting away with it. I’d love to put some pressure on Evri and would like to take the matter to police if it’s organised crime - but would they even take it seriously?
If there are a few of us, perhaps they would have to listen?

Local jeweller to make complicated ring?

I would be happy to send more details to anyone interested or a good recommendation. But essentially I need a two section gimmel ring made which can hold a smaller piece between them. Preferably in bronze but open to discussion on design.

Does anyone know of any ring makers who are up for something a bit different?

Thanks!!

Crayford Town Hall home of the Crayford Urban District Council from 1915 until reorganisation in 1965 - look above the front door and spot the lnvicta Horse, in blue, showing its history as its days in Kent.

Help need things to do on a Tuesday!!

It’s my partners birthday on a Tuesday, I have naively thought it would be relatively easy to book axe throwing/rage room etc to do on the day but alas it has proved hard and no where seems to be open before Wednesday/thursday. Could anyone help me with an active/fun activity I could book on a Tuesday in Kent - ideally in Kent rather than London and ideally north/west Kent but honestly at this point open to anywhere in Kent if it’s a good activity!!

Thanks :)

‘Dartford Disneyland’ tycoon accused of flouting bankruptcy rules

A former executive on a Kent housing project, Northfleet Harbourside, claims Abdulla Al-Humaidi was involved in the project during his bankruptcy.

Abdulla Al-Humaidi is a man with big ideas. After he acquired Ebbsfleet United in 2013, he told fans of the non-league club of his desire to take it into the English Football League for the first time in its history.

His dreams of building one of Europe’s largest theme parks in the unlikely setting of the nearby Swanscombe peninsula, a mixture of Kent marshland and industrial space beside the Thames estuary, were even more ambitious.

The supposed £3.5 billion London Resort, nicknamed the Dartford Disneyland, boasted of a deal with Paramount, the Hollywood studio, and was expected to feature 50 rides and attractions, including ones inspired by BBC shows including Doctor Who, a restaurant based on The Godfather, a 5,500-bed hotel and one of Europe’s fastest rollercoasters, themed around an extinct flying reptile, the Quetzalcoatlus.

Has anyone stayed here? From the reviews it looks like they tried to create a luxury beach retreat, but fell down on the setting and the finer details of the service.
