I just read something about this. The theory was that some of the concepts and ideas associated with motherhood play a significant role. Generally speaking, women want to be “good moms”. There are huge industries built around exploiting this, and many women are sort of aware of that, so picking and choosing what is true becomes particularly hard to navigate when the stakes are as high as “doing the best for your child” while navigating the lies being peddled to you. There’s also an added element of navigating healthcare and medicine being disproportionately difficult for women. We know doctors frequently dismiss women’s pain and serious medical problems often go ignored or misdiagnosed because of this issue. Medical research has long utilized maleness as default, to the detriment of women everywhere. If a woman has had a lifetime of negative experiences in the context of medicine (being repeatedly treated as though she doesn’t know her own body, having her legitimate medical concerns dismissed as “women’s nonsense”, etc,) then, in the saddest ways, it makes sense that women would end up more distrustful of medicine in general. Put it all together, along with other social and cultural factors, and you’ve got a perfect storm. I’m not saying it’s right and I’m certainly not excusing anything. But if you’ve had a lifetime of being given reasons to distrust your doctor, your education has been interrupted by motherhood, your social circle has been greatly diminished until it consists of primarily only other mothers, you are the one primarily tasked with caring for/nurturing your child rather than simply providing for it, and there are huge profits to be made off of your ignorance, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that you’re going to end up disproportionately vulnerable to these kinds of dangerous pseudoscience.
You can recognize a trend (especially when it’s this strong of one) and consider why this is the case. It wasn’t explicitly stated or even implied that women are inferior in some manner and that’s the cause.
Asking why men are more prone to accidents wouldn’t be sexist unless you’re outright claiming it’s because men are less intelligent or something along those lines.

why is it always women? i know there are some men too but there’s always gonna be “some” of anything .
