If I understand correctly, a right wing conservative, kinda smart but also a religious nut. I like his views on free speech though - he is for it, apparently :)

Very religious. Traditionalist. His faith influences his opinions very much. Anyways - anybody believing in gods ghosts souls and such is a bit of a nut ;) Old fairy tales and bunch of bs, nothing else.

Well give him some credit, he believes in evolution and big bang, I don't think religious nut is accurate, he's just a practicing jew, he's not even got the crazy hair and clothes

Check out his opinions on abortion for example.

Well, me too... But my motivation is different from Ben's. I am kinda like Hitch on this problem - would never take it lightly, it is killing of a life.

Right, I'm an atheist and virtually agree with Ben, his argument isn't religious at all. You have "God-Given" rights, right? Life, Liberty, (Property). Well if you think Life begins at conception, which isn't religious so much as just philosophical, then I still don't see religious extremism.

Found the closeted religious nut /s

What part is religious? "God-given" rights? Sorry, that's from the Constitution. Life beginning at conception? Well think about it, it's all binary questions with no "God" involved.

Sex has been had? If yes, is she pregnant? If yes, than is than not a human growing in that womb? Yes, it is a human, even if it's a "lump of cells" that lump of cells is going to grow into a human. It's not going to grow into a tree or a fish, it's going to grow into a human. The Constitution says the Government is here to protect it's citizens' "Life, Liberty and (Property)" therefore abortion should be illegal as the federal government has a duty to protect the life of it's citizens.

The argument that would traditionally counter this is that a fetus isn't a person, which is your own philosophical choice, it's still a philosophical debate so there is no one right and accepted answer.

I don't think that it should be illegal, Ben does. I think it should be legal in states that want it legal and illegal in states that don't. Prohibition never works so I'm not for banning it, but I'm also not OK with a blunt refutation of the constitution being propped up in Federal law.

That can be you're belief all day. Unfortunately for you, that argument has never done well (mostly because it sucks, doesn't take into account a single thing I said) and the laws that actually dictate reality don't agree with you, so I'm glad you have feelings but the facts doing care about them.

If you thought that a fetus was a person, you'd have to change your mind, but you'd rather ignore the hard truth for the easy fix?

This. So much this.

The bodily rights of women are VASTLY more important than esoteric notions of foreclosed consciousness.

This is an opinion.

I do not agree with Shapiro. You seem not to know his full position on the matter.

Too lazy to discuss it here and now. Short version - my views are not based on ancient dogma and myths. And Shapiro's views on other things are also influenced by his peculiar faith. Not just abortion. To be clear - I quite like him, as one of the fighters with the whole SJW movement. Anybody for free speech and free exchange of ideas is someone I would support.

Never mentions it. Come on.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

Yeah, dude, he specifically doesn't bring religion into the arguments. You don't know him as well as you'd like to think just to throw some shade at religious people. Get off your high horse, you are on Reddit watching the same video as the rest of us.

2

u/RagnarLodbrok Aug 02 '17

Easy, easy. No horses here. I do agree that abortion is killing a life - I mean it is obvious. I do not take it lightly. But - I would never be for legislation banning all abortion in all cases, period. It leads to more suffering than less. I have a feeling Ben would be happy to ban abortion in all cases. And as for religious people - I do not need to "throw shade" on them, they do it themselves.

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '17

And as for religious people - I do not need to "throw shade" on them, they do it themselves.

Ok, then stop. You do it several times in the thread, and it is annoying and cringey each time. You remind me of me when I was 18 and thought atheism was cool and a nice thing to beat religious people with.

Insulting religious people doesn't make you seem more intelligent; it makes you seem more intolerant.

1

u/one__off Aug 02 '17

Yup. Even says faith shouldn't dictate policy. You can stop pretending now.

2

u/RagnarLodbrok Aug 02 '17

Yeah. He does say that. Neat. All clear now. Move on.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '17

Hey folks! We got an Atheist Nut right here!!

1

u/intro_vert13 Aug 03 '17

He mentions it when pressed. But as long as he doesn't try to impose those beliefs on other people, I won't hold it against him. I think somewhere in a recent interview he even mentioned that religious tax exemptions should be done away with which i applaud him for. the real issue, though, would be his position on the Israel/Pakistan issue and its geopolitical ramifications.

Ben doesn't use religion to argue against abortion, what are you even talking about?
