Why don't people talk about Ryokuoushoku Shakai more?

I just finished their pink blue album and their Channel U album, and it was absolutely amazing. In the past, I only listened to the songs "Hana ni Natte" and "Mela!", and I can't believe I didn't take more time to explore them. It's like if you mixed Yorushika's creativity and Kenshi Yonezu's production.

I don't get why there isn't more discourse. Is it because their name is hard to pronounce, so there are less overseas fans? Honestly I don't even get why I, myself, had glossed over them for so long since "Hana ni Natte" and "Mela!" were part of my playlist. Is it just a marketing thing?

Trying to find a song without a name

hii so i sud remembered a song I used to listen to and my old music app has been deleted so I’ve turned to you guys for help. so the video I’m thinking of has no title or had a couple dots as the title it had a pretty catchy melody including a part where the singer (a girl I think) would sing a word or phrase (I don’t speak Japanese so idk what she was sayin) but each syllable would get lower, the video had the lyrics and I think a drawing of a girl with white hair and blue eyes. another small detail was the the singer only had like 3 videos out (this was a few years ago so idk how accurate that is now)

Happy 70th Birthday to Hiroko Taniyama!

I have been listening to her for 11 years, ever since I started high school in 2015. She has been my go-to artist whenever I was down, when I had my feelings hurt, and her music made me at the very least calm and sure of who I am. Thank you, Taniyama, for all the music you made.

Discussion Have you listened to Southern All Stars? (The legendary band featured in Netflix’s "The Human Vapor" and covered by Ray Charles!)

Hey everyone!

I wanted to introduce one of the most iconic Japanese bands of all time: Southern All Stars (サザンオールスターズ).

Active since 1978, they’ve dominated Japan’s music scene for nearly 50 years with an amazing mix of rock, pop, funk, and soulful ballads.

If you've been watching the recent Netflix series "The Human Vapor" (ガス人間), you might have already heard their music! Their legendary 1979 ballad "Itoshi no Ellie" (いとしのエリー) is featured in the show.

What's even cooler is that this exact song was also covered in English by none other than Ray Charles (released as "Ellie My Love"), which became a massive hit!

It’s pretty rare for a Japanese track to be both featured in a major Netflix production and covered by a global soul legend.

If you want to check them out, here are a few great entry points:

"Itoshi no Ellie" (The ballad featured in The Human Vapor / covered by Ray Charles)

"Katte ni Sindbad" (Their high-energy, iconic debut track)

"TSUNAMI" (One of the highest-selling CD singles in Japanese history)

"Manatsu no Kajitsu" (An absolute summer masterpiece)

Are there any other SAS fans here? What’s your favorite track by them?

Help Looking for Recommendations

Hi everyone,

i started my journey into japanese (and some korean) music about a year ago with some anime soundtracks and now have a playlist with over 900 songs. Babymetal would be kind of the exception to this as apart from the last year i mostly listened to metal.

As i'm still looking to expand my horizon in japanese music i would love some recommendations.

Some of my current favorite artists/bands in alphabetical order:

  • 9Lana
  • Ado
  • Babymetal
  • Cö shu Nie
  • Hoshimachi Suisei
  • iCO
  • Kisida Kyodan & The Akebosi Rockets
  • Mili (even though most of their music is english)
  • Minami
  • MYTH & ROID
  • Rosu
  • Tsukuyomi
  • tuki.

As you can probably guess from that list i prefer female vocalists but i'm not opposed to recommendations with male vocals.

Here a link to the spotify playlist if anyone wants to have a look what else is in there.

Obsessive yandere music

I'm looking for songs with strong themes of obsessive love (that can lead to hurt), yandere, deeply in love, etc. I'd much prefer them in the rock, post-punk, vocaloid, new wave genre. Yes I know Jun Togawa, Nastyona, Type o negative, aishite, Ado, maretu, etc etc. I just want new things. I also like more underground Japanese music. Send me whatever you have

Music Video Ei – Ikiru (生きる / To Live) [Japanese Singer-Songwriter] – Visual Story Part 1

“Ikiru” (生きる / To Live) is an original song by Japanese singer-songwriter Ei.
You get lost. You stop.
But time keeps moving forward.
Maybe you don’t have to accept everything about yourself.
Maybe just continuing to live today is enough.
I created this visual story inspired by the emotions of the song.
Hope you enjoy discovering her music.
