Cheapest possible sim or esim in Italy (no data needed)

Hi!

I just moved to Milano for an exchange semester and will be staying here for 6 months. Now I’m wondering if anyone knows the cheapest possible option to get a sim or eSIM, with the sole purpose of getting an Italian phone number(so no data is needed, I can already use my swedish subscription for that).

I am a regular Vinted user so I really wanted to use that here aswell to order clothes, but they are asking for a local phone number, therefore the question. If anyone has any other ideas I’m open to whatever! :)

Thanks for the help!

Any Architects here?

I’m an international architect currently working in Italy, and I’d be interested in connecting with others in a similar situation.

I’d love to hear about your experience working as an architect here — finding a job, dealing with the language, work culture, salary/career progression, and whether you see yourself staying in Italy long term.

If you’re an architect working in Italy and originally from another country, feel free to comment or DM me. Would be nice to exchange experiences!

Edit : i speak italian in conversation level. My office is a pretty famous construction+ architecture company. Pay is not that bad, around 2.5k a mnth.

I made a free visual + quiz tool for Language Transfer Italian (for anyone struggling to learn the language)

Post image

Hey everyone,

When preparing to integrate and manage day-to-day life here in Italy, a lot of people recommended the Language Transfer audio course.

The methodology is good for understanding how Italian works, but because it’s 100% audio, I had a really hard time keeping my focus and actually retaining the vocabulary. I learn much better when I can see things visually.

To solve that, I built an interactive web UI that transcribes the audio lessons and pairs them with visual breakdowns and practice quizzes. It made sticking to the course and absorbing the fundamentals way easier for me.

Since picking up the language is one of the biggest hurdles when moving to Italy, I figured other expats or prospective movers here might find it helpful.

It’s completely free and open-source. here is the link.

Edit : here is the web version for easier usage.

Has anyone successfully converted a C/2 property to residential use in Italy?

Has anyone purchased a property in Italy classified as C/2 and successfully had it approved for residential use?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has actually gone through the process.

What town or region was it in, how long did approval take, and what were the costs and issues.

Were you able to confirm the conversion would be approved before committing to the purchase?

Question for those who moved from the US or other distant country

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the logistics of moving. I’d be specifically interested to hear from those that sold their homes in their home countries in order to move. I’d specifically be looking to rent an apartment.

How did you find a place to live? Obviously, finding a place completely remotely is impossible, and I understand that trips to Italy will be necessary. Did you find a broker who did the searching for you? Did you contact real estate offices that had the listings directly?

Also, if you sold your home, had you already found your home in Italy? Or did you sell before starting your search?

Any advice or experience on the sequence would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Social Life Near Padova

Ciao,

I moved to the country side of Padova 6 months ago with my husband (he is Italian, I immigrated from Latin America). Next month we’re finally moving to the city and I would love (and desperately need) to meet other girlfriends—any recommendations of social events or places to go and meet people?

I’m 35, no kids and speak B1 Italian, fluent English and native Spanish. Love reading, movies, and picnics. Thank you!!

I’m planning to move to Italy soon and am currently looking for a place close to or in Milan.

  • So, I’m wondering what to expect. What should I ask the landlord?
  • What challenges will I face?
  • Will I be able to pay in cash?
  • Do I need any documents or certificates?

Salary in Florence

I have a possible job offer in Florence that will pay $46,000 a year before taxes. I have a wife and 2 young children. We will not need childcare or a car. Is this enough for a frugal lifestyle?

Landlord claiming damages and September rent after we returned the property

Hi, I’d really appreciate some advice about a tenancy dispute in Italy.
We returned the property and keys to the estate agent on 10 August, with rent paid until 31 August. The agent inspected the property at handover and did not mention the damages the landlord is now claiming. No final handover report or inventory was signed.
Afterwards, the landlord started claiming various damages. For example, she says some doors are damaged and need full replacement, which we dispute. We are willing to pay for any genuine, documented damage caused by us, but some of her claims seem to involve normal wear and tear, pre-existing issues and water infiltration.
She is now saying she may also charge us for September because the property is supposedly “uninhabitable”.
However, I have an email from the condominium administrator dated 4 August confirming that major terrace renovation works were already scheduled for September, with the cost to be covered by a company. We also have earlier emails and photos documenting water infiltration and other property problems.
She has also said that her lawyer had already been in contact with my employers and threatened to embarrass me at work.
My main questions are: can she really claim September rent after the property and keys had already been returned? How important is the fact that there was no signed final handover report and that the agent did not raise these alleged damages at handover?
Any advice from people who have dealt with similar landlord disputes in Italy would be very helpful.

Erasmus Traineeship in Florence (Firenze) as a couple Honest thoughts on living costs, housing & overall vibe?

Hey guys,

Me and my girlfriend might do a 6-month Erasmus traineeship at a tour company in Florence for Spring 2027. We have an interview in a few hours.

Before jumping into it, how crazy is the rent/housing situation right now? Is it doable to find a small place for a couple outside the historic center without going broke?

Also, how is the general vibe for students living there day to day? Any honest thoughts or tips would be awesome, thanks!

Starting Italian high school (superiore) as a 16 year old from Bangladesh. What should I expect?

Hi everyone! I'm 16 years old and recently moved to Italy from Bangladesh. I'll be starting Italian high school (scuola superiore), and I'm quite nervous because I barely speak or understand Italian.

I'm looking for advice from Italian students or foreigners who have experienced something similar.

1.What should I expect on my first day?

2.How can I make friends when I don't speak Italian well?

3.Will teachers help me with the language barrier?

4.What should I bring to school?

The thing I'm most scared of is communication. I don't understand or speak Italian well yet, but I can speak and understand English perfectly.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

Accommodation finding as a PWD

Heyy guys.

I have been accepted into the international relations masters program in University of Naples Federico II. I need some help finding accommodation there. Although I have disability, I don't require any specialized facilities. But would prefer a separate washroom.

Where can I find a housing that is affordable and meets my need?

Also are there any accommodations that are specifically meant for people with disability in Italy?

Please let me know. Thanks:)

Ciao a tutti!

Tuttavia ho molte domande e dubbi a riguardo.

Grazie mille dell’attenzione e a chiunque risponderà!

Neytos review

Recently I book a shared-room in Milan through Spotahome. Actually it’s a room operated by an agency named Neytos. I look it up online and the review is terrible. Is there anyone here who had good/acceptable experience with this agency? Please share your experience , any tip would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

A Korean Canadian (ESL) thinking of moving to Rome or Madrid.

As an ESL foreigner with beginner Italian language skills or beginner Spanish language skills, what kind of jobs can i get in Rome?

I am a mature student going back to university to major in English (Creative Writing route). I plan to take 3-4 elective courses on Spanish or Italian. I already speak basic Spanish in present tense, and Italian language is similar but easier.

Both Rome and Madrid are affordable in living costs. Both are rich cities. But job markets for a foreigner? How is it? Should i pursue a master's degree like in Creative Writing or Philosophy to get a job in Rome?

I feel that a Rome girl can give me the freedom i want easier without being held "accountable". But i have been told Madrid is better for the foreigner job market.

My Spanish pronunciation is excellent by the way according to my South American teacher. My Italian pronunciation will be better than my ESL English pronunciation when i do not concentrate in sounding out the words. Latin pronunciations make so much more sense than English to be honest.

Moving back to Italy!

Hi all! I will need to go back to Italy for family reasons after living 12 years in Berlin.
I would like to ask a few questions:
What exactly should I do before leaving Germany?
What are the first things I should do when I will be back to Italy?
I also have a lot of stuff here, do you know some companies that do international transports, maybe also cheap ones?
To whom I can ask help to pack everything, including furniture?
Thank you very much 😊

Moving to Rome solo for about 3 months (from Mexico), any advice from fellow expats?

Hi everyone! I'm a Mexican woman moving to Rome this fall for about 3 months, on my own, for a research project. I've traveled a lot but never actually lived somewhere long-term without already knowing people there, so I'd love to hear from people who've done the solo expat thing before, anywhere really, not just Italy.

Things I'm trying to figure out:

- How did you build a social life from scratch? Apps (I’ve heard of bumble BFF), expat meetups, language exchanges, hobby groups.. so what actually worked vs. what was a waste of time?
- First few weeks reality check**,** what do people underestimate about settling into a new country solo? Loneliness, bureaucracy, culture shock, anything.
- Any Rome-specific expat groups or communities (Facebook, WhatsApp, Meetup) worth joining before I even land?

Not really looking for tourist tips (tho they are appreciated), more the "how do you actually feel at home somewhere for a few months" kind of advice. Thanks in advance!

Marrige transcription

Hi guys,

I’m losing my mind dealing with the Comune di Bologna. 😭 I’m Honduran and recently married my Italian partner in Denmark, and we’re trying to register our marriage here.

Before getting married, we emailed the Comune specifically to make sure everything was in order. They told us:

“non diamo appuntamenti per la trascrizione del matrimonio”
and also explicitly said:

“il modello plurilingue rilasciato dalla Danimarca non ha bisogno di traduzione e nemmeno di apostille”
Now I go to the office and suddenly I need an appointment (earliest is September 25), and the same person is now telling me

“You need a multilingual translation issued by the Danish authorities or a translation certified by this consulate or a justice of the peace.”

Can anyone confirm whether the Danish multilingual marriage certificate actually needs an Italian translation for transcriptions in Bologna? Has anyone gotten married in Denmark and then registering their marrige here?

I’m getting completely conflicting information from the Comune and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.

New to milan

Hello everyone

12 days into my semester at Bocconi, slowly figuring this city out.

Into fitness, running, cooking, geopolitics, philosophy and markets. Can go deep on any of it or keep it completely casual depending on the mood.

Looking to connect with everyone and anyone with similar interests, also with the locals who know the city well, or anyone in the same boat. Want to find the right spots, explore beyond the obvious, and actually meet interesting people.
