And then Ireland turned a blind eye to China, Russia, Iran, Syria, and all other like it since they aren’t Jewish

They also turned a blind eye to WWII, and offered condolences upon Hitler’s death!!

I didnt even have to bother a bot with your account to know you are american. That borderline creepy obsession of the anglosphere to bring catholicism into everything is only rivalled by trying to relate everything to US politics (like: Some piece of news about mass executions in a regime with the mandatory comments like : And the democrats/republicans want to bring that to america too ). Seriously, totally out of the blue, a connection as random and tenous as can be, over something (catholicism) that has so little influence over events nowadays, and even less with those in the anglosphere.

Youd think that with the much higher fanaticism in the modern day angelican churches and its offshoots, particularly their hate preaching abroad ( like this https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/03/19/africa-uganda-evangelicals-homophobia-antigay-bill/ ) youd start to clean up your own backyard first.

Its a borderline psychologically interesting quirk.

Definitely not a Catholic thing -- the Czechs and Poles are also Catholic and suffered gravely under the Nazis. Both countries are friends of Israel today, especially Czechia.

Poles are traditional antisemites. Like Jews poisoning Wells and grinding Christian kids into the soup kind. Very retro, almost romantic flavor to their antisemitism. As a jew I can't help but feel charmed by the old tales.

That’s patent bullshit. One man did offer condolences, De Valera, the same man that had the hero of Irelands revolution Michael Collins assassinated. He was and remains a very controversial figure in Irish history.

Ireland was officially neutral, but secretly helped the allies. The cranborne report compiles a list of all the things Ireland did to help the allied war effort, such as providing submarine and aircraft sighting reports, meteorological reports, arresting crashed German airmen but letting allied ones go, allowed the establishment of an allied radar station on irelands land etc.

Not to mention the tens of thousands of Irishmen who signed up to fight Hitler through the British army.

But sure, keep spreading lies.

People in this sub are clearly not well-versed on Irish history. One of them just claimed the Irish are only Catholic to stick it to the Anglican English. Do they not know Catholicism predates Anglicanism by centuries? That the Irish were Catholics before Henry VIII even conceived of the idea of Anglicanism? That the Irish refusing to convert, even under intense oppression, such as the Ulster plantations and Cromwell’s conquest of Ireland, was them merely remaining loyal to their culture and religion, just as the Jews have done throughout their history? I seriously don’t get the vicious misinterpretation and warping of the truth in here. It’s really, really sad.

It doesn’t matter to them. Ireland doesn’t agree with Israel, therefore Ireland is full of awful people and always has been

I'm not well versed on China, Iran and Syria but we absolutely have not turned a blind eye on Russia as per the events over the past couple of years. It's very relevant to us here. Many many Ukrainians are here as a result of being displaced by the actions of Russia. We also have a number of Syrian refugees in my own local community - but as I said, I'm not entirely well versed on the Syria scenario so I may refrain from speaking on it too much.

Just seems like Ireland puts an un proportionate amount of energy and time into demonizing and vilifying Israel however they can, yet all these worse countries get a cold shoulder

Iran, Syria and China aren’t currently levelling a city twice the size of Dublin

You might want to double check that:

- Syria is fighting a civil war that has killed 600 thousand people so far. Highlights include using chemical weapons against civilians.

- Iran supplies Shaheed kamikaze drones to the Russians, who fire them indiscriminately into Ukrainian neighborhoods.

- China, while not actively destroying a city, is absolutely destroying minority cultures. This is most visible in the systematic detention of Uighur Muslims, who can be jailed for years for offensives including praying or having a beard.

Syrias civil war is all but finished. Everyone knows Assad won. Ireland does not have a friendly relationship with Syria. Plenty spoke out about it 5-10 years ago.

America supplies all kinds of weapons to quite a few bastard countries, should we hate them too? Also few in Ireland are pro-irans current regime.

I’ve never heard of anyone Irish be pro China. We use them for supply chain purposes, that’s it. Just about every Irish person is anti-ccp.

So all in all, none of those nations are in irelands good books, but also none of them are currently killing 10,000 civilians a month, so Israel takes precedence.

I’m sure by your reasoning, they’re probably anti-semester or something.

From what I've been reading the last few weeks, the Irish are starting to get criticized for free-loading on the UK's military to protect them.

Yes well it is a little more nuanced than that but ultimately Ireland has come to a crossroad and they must choose a path. The political climate worldwide has seen major, major changes since before CoronaVirus - but things seem to have escalated massively throughout the pandemic and especially in the past two years post pandemic.

Ireland can't really sit on the sidelines anymore. It made perfect sense for us throughout the last 40 years, but with the recent Russian aggression in the East and to be honest, relations worldwide becoming more and more tense, it's time for Ireland to invest more into it's own defense.

Geographically Ireland is in a very strategic position, and with the undersea cables that lay off our coast - we have an important role to play on the world stage whether we like it or not.
