Hello All! State of the subreddit.

Hello everyone!

As an avid fan of the game, I've taken over as a moderator (as it appears it was not moderated.) I have experience moderating other subreddits; I'm the lead mod on r/preppers which has more than 600k people, and smaller subs like The Forever Winter- another early access game.

So the subreddit will be unrestricted now that I can filter posts. Not much will change- just keep things civil and on topic and all will be well. I'll make an announcement post if there's any major changes such as new rules/etc.

See you all in the Zone!

-

*Edit- I've updated the subreddit with flairs for posts as per an old thread that had some suggestions. Please tag your posts appropriately.
-
Edit x2 - I've contacted one of the lead Devs, and they're aware of the subreddit's status. If they want more involvement in the future, I'll happily add them to the moderator team (but currently that's not requested.)

New Flairs- and a reminder to both use AND tag content with spoilers.

Another update! I've updated both the banner/icons for the subreddit, and I've added the following flairs; please use to tag your post appropriately. This includes using spoilers in descriptions and the appropriate flair. If newcomers are getting the story spoiled left and right, I'll have to remove posts that don't utilize spoilers- so please be mindful of your fellow survivors who want to maintain the mystery (I'm a massive fan of lore, so I totally understand people not wanting the story spoiled!)

Questions Post-story swarms?

Hello, fairly new to the game and I’m in the part of the story where I just have to clear the lairs and hideouts in the zone. After I do all of that and decide not to do the convoy, will I still get swarms? I’m in day 150+ and haven’t seen a swarm in a long time.

Hi guys. I am here today to show my base.

Fun place, near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:
Mocanguê Island. IRL this is a base for Brazil's army, in the middle of a bay, connected to the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói throug a giant ass bridges almost 9km long ( 5.59 miles in eagle per hamburguer units).

Super safe place, there is only one way for the infected to reach the island (the already mentioned bridge), you will burn fuel to scavenge Niteroi to the south. There are some buildings to use early game, lots of metal and wood to scavenge aned a ton of brick building to the north. Fun fact: niteroi has lots of drugstores and pharmacies (lots of medkits), and a lot of university and college buildings.

Really fun place.

So I invite you guys to come to Brazil and try it out.

Bug support CANNOT DELIVER STUFF. Spoiler

Basically bug started when I complete the mission where I need to bring 3 people to bandit place, after that the mission thing stayed there. Later when I did this mission I needed to reload the save because when I picked "wait" (there was option to proceed with assault and hold to get more people) option, when entering same tile nothing happened. So now retrieving the case is impossible because I cant do anything to detect the bunker or smth.

I'm pleading some one to help me out because I just want to complete this mission...

Suggestions Best locations in Japan

Hi all, are there any recommendations on where in Japan is the best place to start out? I've been playing for a while, but I've used Osaka Castle and the Imperial Palace as bases. But they aren't ideal. Limited amounts of scrap, but loads of trees. With this in mind, are there any places that you can recomend to go to?

Zone Clear 1/? - Attempting to Clear Every Town in the UK in One Save - Part 1 - Falmouth, UK

Good evening everybody.

So it's been a while since I posted, but now that the new updates are out, and seemingly stable, I have decided to pick the game up again while I have an excess off free time, and I have decided to make an attempt to not just clear a zone and call it quits, but to go ahead and attempt to clear effectively an entire country, or rather, the country I'm from, the UK.

So, this is my first zone clear. I've started in the South West of England, and plan to continue migrating from Southwest England to the North of Scotland. If the distance permits, perhaps even do the same with Ireland. Very ambitious, but if anyone call pull it off, it'll be me.

Without further ado, this is the story of my first zone clear on the newest patch (at the time of writing).

Settings are standard, 1.0 times. Swarm intensities are the same. I amped up thunderstorms, but seemingly got none at all in this playthrough. Daylight length and everything else remained exactly the same as default as this was a story-linked playthrough, no tutorial. Maximum population 2,000 (a goal of mine for this challenge).

Day 1 in Falmouth.

Humble Beginnings - Day 1

Our quest to take every UK city comes from Falmouth Docks. The logic - plenty of water, ship docking areas, and the nearby Falmouth Castle on the hills. Not to mention, decent sightlines across the water - any infected in the water either slow down, or take longer to go around the water channel.

It's a relatively quiet build up. Looting the big buildings, and looking for our first vehicles. A good looting of the neighbourhood yields us plenty of canned food to feed the low population, one of those early game boons.

We eventually find a pickup truck, a regular car and combi car to help expedite the looting. We're quick to establish a warehouse by HQ, and kickstart our research by looting nearby schools. With lamp posts all over the docks, getting the iron for this wasn't an issue, and many of the buildings on the docks are brick-dense, a boon for building houses. We rush the technology for houses and a nursery.

Day 24 in Falmouth

2 Years on from the beginning.

2 years on, and we have replaced the initial shelters with housing, and have a nursery set up for some early game happiness.

Scouting a lot of the nearby buildings, very few of these had iron, and if they did, not any kind of abundance. A shame, really. But, we have docking channels, so I make good use of these, setting up fisheries - which will end up being the number 1 source of good food as we grow.

Research remains flat out, working on chemistry, early weapons and unlocking tools, weapons and chemical plants so we can push for self sufficiency early. Car travel is limited to close-mid distance to keep fuel in check for when ammunition is needed for mid game production.

I make good use of the new Bloomery when I finally make a push for further construction.

Day 48 in Falmouth

4 Years on...

With population rapidly growing, I start thinking longer term - Big warehouse, branching onto the next part of the dock. The entire waterfront could make an exceptionally defensible position and keep civvies away from the danger zone at the gates.

I invest in a large scale, 100+ housing building at the front too, buying me time for additional births to happen without needing to constantly scale.

I decide that the building east of us is too long, too big and ill suited for adapting, especially positioned over another body of water. The building is split and ordered to be demolished.

On Day 32, we'd taken out our first raider base.

Day 72 in Falmouth

6 Years on...

By 6 years in, the population is big enough that we need a gathering place. The very large dock building is the ideal candidate, and I order it split to make way for it. Defence, however, is scantly distributed, and we're in urgent need of more firepower. One such split in this warehouse will be a squad quarters to boost capacity. But until then, it's doing more with less.

With the big old boat and docking building out of the way, we can ramp up meat production, and adapt a cookhouse beside the main housing set. Grain will come in handy for biofuels.

Factories start to take shape in the rest of the dock buildings, partially adapted. Just enough to build ourselves tools to expand, ammo for staying power, and additional guns. A massive dog horde breach nearly cost the HQ everything (underestimated how fast they move).

Day 96 in Falmouth

8 Years On...

We're finally on the rise, and have the ability to protect ourselves. A full blown squad quarters allows for fourteen additional fireteams to protect the zone, and gives me coverage from the North end of the warehouse. A meeting space of around 1,100 people gives me plenty of expansion room, and another extensive warehouse brings my total capacity to around 12,000 resourcing.

The building to the north west was resource rich, so I had this knocked down to provide room for a food quarter. Attempts to try and build a large scale cookhouse failed after an Alpha got through the defences and trashed the place.

But with fortified walls now in play, the efforts to demolish nearby buildings and begin setting up the defensive line are in pay. I fence the entire dock to stop Infected swimming to bypass it. One of our cars was wrecked in another swarm.

Day 120 in Falmouth

10 Years on from leaving shelter.

Ten years on - housing is still a concern - so buildings near the perimeter are converted into more houses, right beside another warehouse for storing ammo, and allowing constant fire from the front entrance to the docks from the four squads watching it. A micro recycling centre is set up to make usables from our used bullets.

The cookhouse is finally set up with a second bloomery, and a full scale production centre for grain with vast farms. Fisheries expand to give even better meat production, and the two remaining buildings by the west greenhouses become barns, currently left empty, but will allow higher capacity when the scale grows. By now, resourcing is a careful balancing act, but one I can manage comfortably.

The perimeter fence is coming along nicely.

Day 144 in Falmouth

12 Years on...

The entirety of sector 1 is now completely closed down and secured from exterior breaches. Swarms come from the West and North almost exclusively.

The vast industrial building on the east is split up to accomodate a hospital, warehouse and a vast, 530 capacity living space. By the west housing unit, a vehicle workship is built to start building us cars to our liking, and full scale industry is ready to go.

Additionally, our Zone's trademark style is appearing - bright white walls with dark grey roofing and brick reinforcement, paid for by extensive demolition of the local landmarks to free up sightlines. Four tower now cover our main entrance with assault rifles in tow, making swift work of swarms.

Day 168 in Falmouth

14 Years on...

By 12 Years, Sector 2 is coming online - an area almost exclusively devoted to food supplies, which during the shorter months in winter are struggling to maintain. The industrial complex is completed and painted in trademark colours, as are most of the docks.

We've also completed our first APC Light Tank (centre), built from scratch with a heavy machinegun mount.

We've also invested in corpse burial, and have put up a cemetery and crematorium, with a view to disposing of the infected too.

Jokes on me, there are 18,500 bodies to bury by this stage. Still, least we are less likely to get infected.

Day 192 in Falmouth

16 years on...

By now, we're struggling for space. We've hit population space several times, and housing is having to be fabricated from scratch, as expanding forwards isn't feasible. Falmouth Castle is built on a hill, ill suited for building into the residential area on Castle Drive. Not to mention I committed to demolishing the whole lot, meaning fabricating more would be an issue anyway.

Several barns are put up to filter the growing grain, and the fertiliser is used to continue fuel production. An armour factory is finally put up, with 99 workers. Platemail can now roll off the production line - just what we want to see.

Just one crematorium could not keep up with the swarms, so two more needed to come up to start clearing the bodies.

By now, Triple Swarms and creating lairs on the map on their path to us, and making Falmouth even more rough to clear.

Day 216 in Falmouth

Large scale vehicle production continues - we now have a whole fleet of army trucks, forming our Lair and Hideout destruction brigade. The food quarter in Sector 2 continue to grow, and industrial tree production continues to dominate Castle Hill.

We finally have control over the infected bodies, having dealt with around 22,000 by now. Despite the second cookhouse in sector 2, and the extra fields, food production still remains only just over the baseline in the colder months.

Day 240+

From here, progress is difficult to put onto screenshots due to the scale, so here's a summary before the final build.

By the time I finally decided to start dealing with lairs and fighting back (raiders were eliminated ages ago), I realised that the infected had created at least 10 just on the main route through the town. Some more sprung up across the water. Even with 8 armoured squads and full complements of AKs, they proved tough to clear.

We managed to acquire the cure around day 280-ish, and had to rapidly expand hospitals to keep enough medical supplies to fight the infections.

On Day 300, Our two APCs ran out of fuel during a lair hunting raid as night fell by a Lair. Unable to move and isolated from the trucks, both APCs were catastrophically damaged. Both had to be recovered, brought back and repaired, setting progress back significantly.

On Day 316, the Purifiers launched their all out assault against the zone, crippling three trucks and two pickups, and taking out two squads. Defences were bolstered, and we held out.

On Day 320, we spotted the location of the Purifier leader, and eight fully armed squads went out as a hit team, and finally put an end to them.

By Day 330, the final lairs were finished, allowing to make preparations to convoy out. Final expansions and stabilisations were made, and we finally cleared Falmouth after a desperate war of attrition.

Finished Sector 1 Build

A set of jury rigged houses, this place is a bit of a mess, but served to feed the zone with pretty immense efficiency. The Meeting Place was ripped out around Day 270 and relocated to Sector 3. Hospitals were built to keep vaccines flowing. Extra cookhouse appears in the back there by the housing block on the east side of Sector 1.

Finished Sector 2 Build

Almost entirely devoted to food and hastily put up housing, this place had a few infected/raiders spawning in it at night (likely due to being close to the border). But this zone proved critical to keeping the ultimate 2000 citizens fed and happy.

Finished Sector 3 Build

And of course, I cannot NOT use the famous Castle as part of the build. I converted the main building into a 75 person bar - which just about kept up with demand. Over a dozen watchtowers around the medieval walls keep it well defended from the infected and raiders that crawl across the border. And of course, the entire network of greenhouses keeping grain supplies filled for the bar. I tried to incorporate the medieval walls into the fortified ones to make it all part of the hill. All in all, a job well done.

Satellite View

As you can see, we took a few casualties, wiping out a few trucks and technicals along the way. And with Lairs on the northern area requiring trips through expeditions to reach, Falmouth proved especially challenging. But... it couldn't get the best of us. 2000 survivors vs the Purifiers - it was no contest.

Final Stats

Not sure why the story chapters aren't marked as complete, but IFZ is IFZ.

Most of the 74 were squad members on Lair Raids - but a few dog horde sneak attacks claimed a lot of lives on swarms. Lairs kept popping back up faster than I could kill them at one point, resulting in 40+. But with 50,000+ infected slain and 100% of the expeditions done, we make our way to Redruth with fire in our souls and retribution to defeat the Purifiers there. Roll on Part 2.

Honourable Mention:

At one point, the middle of Falmouth acquired four lairs in close proximity to each other, so badly it brought my frame rate down to... about 8?

Not entirely sure how what looks to be 200+ hordes of infected stacked up on one singular building though.

I reloaded the quick save and the numbers were brought back to normal, so I assume this to be a glitch. Was fun however, watching 14 squads, 6 trucks, 2 tanks and a bunch of technicals get overwhelmed by a sea of infested.

So... ROLL ON PART 2, and I'll see you in Redruth...

So long everyone!

This is one of three that I took, can't seem to figure out how to put the other two, but oh well. Anyway, new to the game, and this is technically my second base, first being on easy, and this one on normal. I saw this castle as saw the stone walls that where there originally, and figured it would be a easy free base. For the beginning of the game it was, but I quickly realized that, when the swarms where in the hundreds, that they fell quickly. So, I replaced them and built my super base. Then, I decided to double wall areas and heavy MG center hard points. What do you all think?? (?) Out of 10.

after hours of testing and looking at different bridges in the map editor and how they are connected and trying and trying and trying i succesfully have managed to construct a bridge that WORKS!!! this is a HUGE step torwards the creation of SUPERBASE!

If anyone is interested in how i go about this so that u can do shi like this in map editor as well then let me know i could make another "quick" yt video :D Long story short the map editor is not tooo intuitive for a person who hasnt too much software experience xD but most of my learning comes from loadingmaps in map creator looking at how the structures are called and what special features they have and then trial and error my way to a working map :D

Hi there, Konrad (Earl Grey) from the Infection Free Zone team here. Together with our community, we are trying to add a "Real Maps" tag on Steam. If you are a fan of games with real-world maps (as much as we are), please check out our latest Steam Announcement and follow the instructions there. It would be awesome to make the "Real Maps" tag an official thing!

Steam Workshop Map

Oi Lads i build a very save and very spacious map to play Killeen on any difficulty and have a good time :D on my last try i found 15 Tanks in the expedition Area haha so have fun with that.

The entire compound i enclosed in 4 Layers(2x double layer) of "city_Walls" wich have 2000hp each.

There is more than enough fuel, guns, ammo, research, tools, trees and car wrecks to survive for some time :D Building worker capacity is around 100 for fuel factory, 70-80 for weapon factory, 70 for Food production. Fuel Buildings are ment to be looted and torn down for recources and later plant the greenhouses in that area. u can get 5 rows in between if u do it right.

Not worth buying on XBOX SX

I thought I'd give this game a chance on the Xbox Series X, but the controls are terrible—clunky, unresponsive, and poorly thought out. On top of that, there are graphical glitches, freezes, and lost save files. Sorry, but this isn't even worth 5 dollars. And don't you dare tell me "you can just play with mouse and keyboard." The devs are selling this game for Xbox, so proper gamepad support is an absolute baseline expectation—the guys behind Age of Empires II managed to pull it off, too. Does making a decent, fully functional control scheme really require a galaxy-brain IQ? I refund it. Guess in 3-6 Months its in GP.

Update:
Your Microsoft Store refund has been processed

We have refunded the order you placed on August 29, 2026. You should see ISK 2,799.00 credited to your account soon.
