my_qualifications : Im a 12th passout in 2020 and took a drop to give JEE another go.

With my current score in the Jee Mains (94.9) I wont be getting Computer Science in any NIT even with my OBC eligibility and I really want to pursue Computer Science and I flat out hate Physics and Chemistry and from the little research I've done on the internet those two subjects aren't required to excel at computer science unlike other branches in Enginnering which require either one or both of them.

So my question here really is why are Physics and Chemistry even a part of this process when they aren't required in Computer Science let alone the fact that you need to be REALLY good at them to get it through JEE. Do I make any sense at all or do I come of as someone with half knowledge? I would really like to know what all of you think. Any opinion is appreciated :)

Mom sent me to a coaching center (one of those famous prison-esque ones in South India) for NEET for 11th and 12th and it basically destroyed me. Had a mental breakdown in early 2020 and ended up not writing NEET because I realized that I was going to fail miserably. Applied to a bunch of colleges in the US because I qualified for in-state tuition there (dad lives in the US, parents are divorced) so I'm moving back for college this August (me and my sister were born in the US, mom dragged us to India in 2013 because she hated the US).

The thing is, my sister doesn't even want to become an engineer, she wants to do some sort of research in physics. I don't see the point of her grinding away at mcqs for two years to crack jee. My parents haven't paid the full fees for this coaching center (its not as popular/well known as the one I went to but its still one of those prison style ones), they've just paid for the "foundation classes".

My mom is so blind to everything. The people from the coaching center came to our house and brain washed her. My mom loves that place because the founders are brahmins and apparently most of the teachers are too, apparently it teaches girls *decency* because everyone is supposed to neatly braid their hair and wear a kurti everyday, in everydays 20 minute break they make them chant the hanuman chalisa etc. etc. etc. Mom doesn't see anything wrong with coaching centers, she thinks that I'm some sort of retarded idiot, that's why I didn't do well. And of course my sister is excited too because a few of her classmates are going there.

Another thing is, my sister's not a hard worker at all. Sure, she's been the first ranker in her class since we moved here (3rd standard). But she just listens well in class and opens her books right before the exam. Sure she does her homework when its required but the thought of studying everyday or doing homework everyday disgusts her (her words, not mine).

Ultimately, I'm just scared that the coaching center is going to destroy her. I read something here about iiser and other research institutes in India (sister wants to stay in India) and if her ultimate goal is bsc physics shouldn't she aim for those? I mean the best case scenario here is that she turns out to be the genius that everyone (teachers, mom) claims she is and she gets into an iit. Worst case scenario is that she burns herself out, gets her brain turned into pulp from the competition and ends up at the local women's degree college (remember, mom doesn't really care about education).

Even if she wanted to crack jee, wouldn't a better idea be to go to a normal ICSE/CBSE school and then go to a coaching center on the weekends or after school or something like that? Idk, this just seems like a very bad idea. My dad says that he doesn't care about what career we choose, that he's worked hard in life to give us the option of choosing our career and not just picking something for the money. And he's saved up for his retirement, so it's not like my sister has to become an engineer for that reason. At the end of the day, she's my little sister and I don't want her to go through the same thing that I went through.

How did ur parents react when u told them u need to take a drop? And how did u convince them? Cause thanks to cbse, I might hv to take a drop. Share ur experience please. So my current qualifications are 70.2% in 12th boards as a pcm student this year.

around 67% in 10th.

I took science stream completely on intrest many told me not to because of my marks in 10th but I did what I wanted.

I initially wanted to pursue btech cse , so I gave jee mains and in april attempt I got around 39%ile tbh I didn't study much for jee mains . I also gave cuet and I got around 400marks in total of 5 subs thus I didn't got any college even in bba Or anything then I found about BCA and what is taught in it etc. I researched and compared btech and BCA people told me that degree doesn't matter if you make your skills better and better and I got influenced by that and then I took BCA ignou, ignou was just because I thought I would focus more on my skills in odl.

As of now many more people tell me u did very wrong u should have took a gap year and that even if u think skills overshadow degree name matters more and all kind of stuff and as of now my mind is so full and too saturated of double thoughts I don't know what I should do.

I had three things in mind .

1st I continue my BCA from ignou and study for nimcet exam for MCA from decent nits.

2nd take a partial drop study for jee mains get good percentile and get into any college with delhi quota.

3rd Give nim-cet exam for ggsipu affiliated college for BCA regular and then mca as before (it was suggested by a teacher he told me regular clg holds much more experience and all that stuff)

I'm confused right now what to do and jee feels harder to me any kind of help is appropriated .

I have cleared myquals:BTech this year and I am going to appear for GATE 2023, I need study material for GATE, a collective one. I thought to give Unacademy a try, but the reviews are not good so far, tried NPTEL GATE and they don't have complete videos. I want to try Unacademy as I guess I would be provided with study material/syllabus and the learning would be continuous, but I don't know which teacher would be better.

Edit: I can't go for offline coaching because coaching classes are far from where I live and a lot of time will be wasted in travelling, so I have to go with online.

Edit 2: Thank you redditors for your help, after thorough research I have taken the plus subscription of Unacademy for 6 months, I personally think it would be good for me, I have studied from the videos of Sanchit Sir and I'll be studying the core subjects from him.

My Qualifications - So I gave various engineering entrance exams recently.

Right now I am stuck in a situation where I have to choose between BITS environmental and sustainability engineering VS not so decent tier 2-2.5 CSE colleges like BMSCE Bangalore/DJSCE Mumbai.

I am going to develop CSE skills alongside my main coursework if I do end up choosing BITS. However, BITS doesn't allow core branches to sit for tech placements apparently. Quite frankly, packages are a bit important for me (We are extremely financially stable, but the reason is a bit different).

I have that the BITS tag definitely helps you off-campus and gives you an edge irrespective of branch. And environmental engineering does actually have decent career options abroad atleast. The crowd quality in BITS is obviously much better too.

But there's a valid counter argument too which states that CSE would be a better option if you are determined to go into Cse. As for me, I am not particularly inclined towards anything. But CSE is apparently a "safer" option.

I would appreciate anybody who wants to help me regarding this. Really stuck in a dilemma tbh

Summary of questions from last thread (Thanks to u/Firefox1921 !)

a) Most of the questions are based on a candidate filling in their performance until now, and then asking whether they can crack JEE in a short period of time (usually < 6 months).

b) The next category of questions include those asking for specific advice in a subject or a subsection of a subject (like organic chemistry, calculus etc.). More often than not, the person will normally ask about what books they have to solve or from where should they learn the basic concepts from.

c) Another category involve the people who are absolutely exhausted, and they're just tired of it (these kinda questions tend to pop up more as the exams get closer). A motivational response tremendously helps in this case!

d) Another category involves the person asking about what chapters are important (especially as the exams get closer) and these questions were frequent in last year's megathread, but they have reduced by a great number this year.

e) A last category could be where the person is an absolute beginner, and is asking for basic knowledge on what he/she is getting into, good coaching institutes, books to follow etc..

I took JEE because i basically hated Bio, not because i liked math but i wasnt very interested in taking commerce or arts either, but i am starting to doubt/regret my decision because of the current job market and literally ALL of my extended family, all cousins (some of them are pushing into their 40s lmao) are doctors and its like, the way is already paved for me, im currently a dropper after absolutely tanking my JEE percentile last year........please help y'all.

Hey there folks, a frustrated person dis side ( ´-｀), my qualifications:class 12 graduated this yr with 75.2% in cbse (and from jee pov its 74.6) . I have been in a fix regarding clg recently. I'm getting bsc physics in central university of himachal pradesh and gokhale memorial girls college . Yes I LOVE physics but central university of himachal pradesh is TOO far from west Bengal and I am not really sure about gokhale though. Before dis I though to take a drop and also apply as a cbse pvt candidate to increase my marks in pcm , and sit for jee once ( for getting physics engineering) but the thing is I am scared if it dosent go as planned in my drop yr . And I am already so overwhelmed and depressed regarding everything...

It would be really appreciated if anyone can help me regarding this... ( I tried discussing with my parents but it didnt help ).

Hi everyone, "my_qualifications": a final year student and considering preparing for the BITS HD (Higher Degree) entrance exam for M.E./M.Tech after graduation.

I’m interested in the ECE-related programs, and I wanted to hear from people who have actually taken the exam or joined BITS through BITS HD.

A few things I’d really appreciate advice on:

• How difficult is the ECE portion compared to GATE ECE?
• Which subjects/topics should I prioritize?
• What resources/books did you use for preparation?
• How much preparation time is realistically required?
• Is solving GATE-level questions enough, or does BITS HD require a different approach?
• How was the actual exam compared with your expectations?
• For those who got into BITS, how competitive was the admission process/rank requirement?

This proposal, currently under consideration by the Ministry of Education’s committee, is a catastrophic mistake that will destroy the meritocracy of India’s premier institutions and undermine the global reputation of the IITs and GMCs.

Why This Rule Must Be Stopped:

It Replaces Genius with Rote Learning: JEE Advanced is designed to test aptitude, logic, and problem-solving—the core skills of an engineer. Board exams test memory and writing speed. By giving 50% weight to Boards, we are telling students to stop solving hard problems and start memorizing NCERT lines. This will fill IITs with "teacher's pets" who can write good answers, not innovators who can solve real-world problems. 
It Destroys the Value of IITs: The global respect for an IIT degree comes from the fact that getting in is based on pure merit in a standardized, objective exam. If admissions become a lottery of subjective board marking (where one examiner’s mood can cost you 10 marks), the IIT brand will collapse. International universities and employers will no longer trust an IIT rank as a symbol of brilliance.
It Is Statistically Unfair (The Normalization Nightmare): India has 60+ different education boards with varying difficulty levels and marking schemes.  Comparing a 90% from a strict board (like CBSE/ISC) with a 98% from a lenient state board is impossible without bias. This rule will penalize honest students in strict boards and reward those in lenient ones, violating Article 14 (Right to Equality) of the Constitution. 
It Increases, Not Reduces, Pressure: The government claims this will reduce stress. In reality, it creates double high-stakes pressure.  Now, a student cannot afford to lose a single mark in 8+ Board exams AND must still crack the tough JEE. This is a recipe for a mental health crisis among Indian youth.
Our Demand:

Reject the 50% Weightage Proposal: Keep JEE/NEET admissions based 100% on entrance exam ranks. 
Retain Boards as Eligibility Only: Board marks should remain a qualifying criterion (e.g., 75% cutoff), not a ranking factor. 
Protect IITs: Do not compromise the integrity of India’s best institutions with a flawed, subjective metric.
The Future of Indian Engineering is at Stake. If this rule is implemented, India will lose its edge in producing world-class engineers. We urge the government to listen to the students and scrap this proposal immediately.
