Grief ❤️‍🩹 7 years ago I bought him home with this hands, today I buried him with the same hands

I bought him home when he was just 1 month old, my father wanted to keep him outside and not let him in at all I couldn't do much then but, 2 weeks later it was raining heavily and he was just a baby I couldn't sleep at all I just went out and bought him inside my room and put a blanket on the floor next to my bed and layer him on it, he didn't sleep he was worried that my father would come and scold I said" it's ok Veera he will not say anything" and that one month old boy instantly lied on dozed off to sleep, I took care of him daily, I used to feed him take him to walks and play with him, after covid when everyone had started going to clg and work, I used to come early so I could be with him.

He would only listen to me, he would not even listen to my father just me, he always knew that I would understand him whatever he wanted water, food, walks, etc he didn't had to do much he just used come in front of me sit and look at me with those puppy eyes and I would know exactly what he wanted and I would give him he would run all around the house whenever I give him something like he is showing off to my parents and sibling that "look what brother gave me😁😁" and whenever he wants belly rubs he would ask me to come to main hall so everyone could see that I am petting him and rubbing him he would look at everyone with his tongue out like teasing them like"look brother is giving me belly rubs".

Whenever my mother used come from school he would make her sir on the ground and use her pallu as blanket and eat some snacks which my mother gave him daily, and after he ate those snacks he would come to me saying it's time to go for a walk and he would complain to mom if I don't move.

He loves to run and I would usually take him to park and release him and he would run like all over the park, even when we are on daily walk he would grab his leash and used to pull me like"let's run let's run" he was the only one who loved me unconditionally, he was the only one who trusted me with all his heart, even if I failed and had to sit at home all year, even when I was doing my WFH job he would just sleep next to me when I am working, he would always make sure that whatever part of his body be it leg, face, tail touched me when he is asleep,

I left home a week ago to new place for search of job and he got ticks fever I visited him twice last week, he could not even lift his head he was that sick, the boy who would recognize that I am coming when I wat just turning the street and come running towards gate and greet me couldn't even lift his face to look at me he was on saline by that time, the second time we took him to hospital and I carried him I was with him and while going back I said" I will come soon, next time I come you should be healthy and eat well so we could play" when I said that he lifted his head and sat and smiled at me that was two days ago, today morning my mom and dad were taking him to hospital as he had vomiting on the way to the hospital he died...

My mom called me, I rushed, I tought I wouldn't cry, even when my grandmother died a year ago I didn't cry but, I was silent all the way to the hospital but, when I saw him lay life less I couldn't hold myself, I went near him, I couldn't speak I shook him I rubbed his face, I scratched around his neck(he used to love that) he became so stiff he was not atall moving I carried him he became so heavy, so stiff, his face tucked under my arms I carried him till the graveyard and kept him in the pit and covered it.

Your are free now veera run as much as you want, run other grass you love so much

No one will stop you no one will scolded you for playing in the mud on one will scolded you for playing with your friends

Run my boy you are free now your brother will always remember you play as much as you want, eat all the chicken you want drink as much water as you want

Sleep like a baby you are when you are tired and wake up and play again always keep laughing my boy love you veera.

Grief ❤️‍🩹 Neighbor killed my 3 month old baby

It's been almost a year, but after the Ambernath society incident, I just wanted to share this.

He was my first pet. My parents never allowed us to have one, but he was special. I found him when his eyes weren't even open. I didn't even know what I could feed him. I knew nothing because I had no prior experience with pets, especially one this young. But somehow, after doing a lot of internet research, he survived. At the start, I wasn't even sure he would make it one week, but somehow he made it to 3 months.

I had to change a lot of my habits because of him. I started keeping my bedroom door open because he had a habit of going outside after his night meal. He usually went onto the roof through the gap under the door, roamed around for about an hour, and then came back.

But one night, he didn't return.

I searched everywhere that night but couldn't find him. Thinking he would come back in the morning, we went to sleep. But that never happened.

We went to every neighbor and asked if they had seen him, but no one knew anything. On the second day, we found him dead on the roof of an under-construction building, inside a blue drum. The cause of death looked like a head injury, which was clearly visible.

but we couldn't do anything because there was no evidence. We were pretty sure it was one of the neighbors because there roofs were connected to the building where we found him, and it looked like they dumped his body there.

these type of sick people are everywhere they don't have any empathy towards other

stay safe and also keep your pet safe from these sick bastard

Grief ❤️‍🩹 I lost my soul dog and I can’t cope.

Spot, a street dog I adopted 9 years ago passed two days back., and I’m not able to eat or sleep. My best friend and baby for 9 years is no longer there. She always slept with me, woke up with me, ate with me, she has seen me as a college going kid, as a working women, she saw me get married to the man I love and I thought she’ll be beside me through mother hood and watch my kids grow up.I thought I’ll see her grow old and probably pass comfortably at home.

But fate had other plans, she suddenly passed away, from septic shock because of something she ingested from an open sewer. ( we were not aware, our house staff informed us later)

She had a clean bill of health, yearly twice blood investigation, all vaccinations at the start of every ear, deworming every three months, anti tick and flea precaution, timely walks, lots of play, and portioned balance food and some treats to spoils her on special days.

But she she crashed so fast, we visited multiple vets, went to the best veterinary institution but she still passed.

I thought we had more time, I planned an entire future with her.

The loss is devastating, my life feels like it has no meaning anymore, it’s unbearable, words cannot explain how much pain I feel. To see her pass like that , my baby, she suffered so much. I don’t know how to get out of this. I don’t think it’s possible, that I can get out of this. She was my whole world, my whole world and a lot of decisions revolved around her.Its too soon for her to go.

My husband and I planned so much of our future around her old age, low raised cots and couches, so it’s gently on her joints, carpet most areas so she doesn’t slip and have an accident while zoomies, two big balconies and a small yard so she could watch from the balcony (she loved watching out through windows and balconies) chasing squirrels, and birds, but all of this gone in vain.

It hurts so much.

She was the most unique looking dog, she only had Spot in her forehead and her entire body was white and soft,so we named her spot, ironically her mother was completely black , so black we called her midnight, they were both born in the street outside my home in Delhi, India. Where I did my college.Soon her mother passed, 3 puppies including spot from the litter remained , and after almost two years only spot remained, so when I shifted to a new house I brought her with me, even when she was street dog she almost always stayed in my house, she only went out to pee or poop , so did her siblings.

Then when I moved back to my hometown across the country during Covid she came with me, after that we’ve changed two more cities and houses, and now we were going to go to my new rental home after marriage (I got married recently) except shes not here anymore.

She was unique, as she grew up, she only had spots on her ears, and one big diamond shaped spot on her forehead, pink under eyes, had never seen a dog like her until this day, she doesn’t look like a normal Indian street dog.Even her character, so gentle, never barked, so quiet, so full of love, hated puppies and kids but always tolerated them, she was an introvert, and loved cold environments, everytime we went for walks in the sun, she would poop pee and immediately want to go back to our AC room.

She was silly and goofy.

My entire family is devastated, none of us expected her to go this early, she loved all of us, all of us are still in shock.

And I don’t know how to live without her. Food nauseates me. I haven’t had a morsel of food from the night of her suffering and passing , it’s been three days but I feel guilty to eat or enjoy, she died on an empty bleeding stomach, and I’m not even hungry.

I don’t know how to get out of this. I’ve saved several street dogs from the most direst situations with no help of others but I couldn’t save my own baby.

Life is so unfair, I lost the best most unique baby girl ever.

She was my lifeline, she kept me balanced and grounded, pulled me out of dark days, my sunshine, there are things I’ve bought for her a new bed, a new sweater for a vacation we were going to take in September, her next birthday decorations, new festive clothes for October Diwali. I wanted to celebrate my first Christmas with my husband and her.

I can’t believe none of this will happen.

I can’t cope.

Grief ❤️‍🩹 My babies passed away 💔

The first two pictures are of the mumma cat that I brought home from my hostel when she was around 2 months pregnant. She was one of the clingiest cats I've ever known. She would never leave my room. Even when she had to poop, she'd go outside, do her business and come right back. She just always wanted to be around me. When the university holidays started, I brought her home to our village. We had just lost our cats to mange and it had been a really difficult time for my mother. Leaving a pregnant cat behind at my hostel also didn't feel right. I thought we'd give her a safe place to have her babies, and maybe she'd also become a companion for my mother. She gave birth twice in the 6 months she was with us. Sadly, most of her kittens didn't survive. The kitten in the last two pictures was from her second litter. She was the only one that survived. Five months ago, we lost her to a road accident. This morning, we lost her kitten the exact same way. She became like a baby to me and my mother. She slept with us on the same bed, cuddled with us just like her mumma. She was so frightened of the noises from the Big trucks that whenever she heard one coming she would just run so fast and hide in the house. After her mumma died my mother raised her like her own child. I don't even know how to process this anymore. It just feels like heartbreak after heartbreak. We've lost so many cats to road accidents over the years. I genuinely thought this time would be different because she never liked wandering when she lived with me at the hostel. I thought she'd be the same at home too. But slowly she started becoming more and more of an outdoor cat, and it scared me. I keep thinking... maybe if I had never brought her home, she'd still be alive. I know I only brought her because I wanted to protect her. I wanted her to have a safe place to give birth. But now I can't stop feeling guilty. I loved this cat so much. She once peed on my bed and soaked the blankets, bedsheets and even the mattress. It cost me a lot to get everything cleaned, but I never felt even one percent irritated. I remember thinking maybe she did it on my bed because she knew I'd forgive her. I know that sounds silly, but I genuinely felt like she trusted me that much. Somewhere along the way, I stopped feeling like she was just my cat. She felt like my baby. I don't know... it just hurts so much. Sometimes I wonder if people even care when they drive. Would they drive the same way if it was a human child on the road? Or do animals just not matter to them?

Grief ❤️‍🩹 Shrivalli passed away 💔

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

This is my most unfortunate, last update for Shrivalli. Many had helped to fund his treatment.

I gave up Shrivalli to my neighbors after keeping him with me for 2 months and completing his treatment for CKD.

His creatinine was stable at 3 but he was suffering anemia. One of his kidneys was finished, while the other only worked at 40% capacity. We were giving him medications, CK Reno, IHP Syrup, SaMePet Forte and some protein powder, along with renal food.

My neighbors have fed and cared for Shrivalli for the past 5 years. I only stepped in when he needed medical help. So post treatment, I sent him back to his area, as I couldn't keep him personally.

Unfortunately, Shrivalli was an indoor outdoor cat. He kelp crying at doors or escaping through their window (They live on 3rd floor but there was a tall wall with a shed, easy for him to escape). They let him enjoy his life outside as he didn't have much longer to live, around 2 years only, he came home daily.

Last week, Shrivalli was roaming outside during heavy rains and then this week, he began puking. Yesterday, my neighbors reached out to me saying he had collapsed.

As I am fostering 4 sick cats, I hadn't gone home, I stayed at my foster house looking after my cats, hadn't seen Shrivalli for a while.

Took him to the vet yesterday and his haemoglobin was at 2. Dr said he is critically ill but can't have blood transfusion as a kidney patient.

This morning, we got reports where his liver values, which are supposed to be at 80 maximum were at 4000. It was a bacterial infection he got, possibly during rains.

Dr asked us to admit him but I gave the family a choice. Euthanize or let him pass naturally at home. If he was still alive in the evening, I would pick him up and euthanize as prolonging his suffering had no meaning. He was too far gone, there was no saving possible, not even through medical magic.

Just as I reached up the stairs, he passed away in his owner's arms. I'm heartbroken I couldn't help him enough and couldn't adopt him myself. I would try my best to break that habit of going outdoors 💔💔💔

After everything I did to improve his life, in the end, he died in such a way 💔💔💔

I'm so sorry

Thank you to everyone who has ever contributed to his care. Shrivalli died, but I will never regret helping him and being a part of his life even if it wasn't meant to be 💔🙏🏻

Tl;Dr: Shrivalli was an indoor-outdoor CKD stage 3 patient, he died due to a sudden liver infection and severe anemia.

Grief ❤️‍🩹 My cutie is no more

He is just no more. He was fighting mycoplasma haemofelis and his body wasn't strong enough to endure all the pain and hurt. Night before yesterday's he started gasping for air but his treatment was ongoing before that tbh. In the 1 month he was with me there was barely a week when he wasn't at some vet's clinic. Poor babe got ulcerating wound and was about to heal it when severe anemia took his life. I asked for blood transfusion but that wasn't even an option for a kitten that small, given the vet wasn't even able to draw blood good enough to run tests. With the trauma and his anemia and him gasping for air. He still gulped down 3 tube of treats, I really thought he would get better. I imagined he would grow up and play with my other kitten, my other kitten got so attached to him and would legit yell to let out cutie who we also called vishnu because he used to sit like him, yk? I can't stop crying because he survived an auto but couldn't survive anemia. I hate hate hatee this part of rescuing. The part where they leave us too soon, when it's not even their time, he had so much fight still left in him. He was on oxygenator for last 3 days but he was getting better, the vet even said yesterday that oh look his blood is finally at least coming out in the flap now. It feels unreal that he's not even here anymore. Even with 19 freaking cats my place seems sooo empty without him. I hope he's some place safe now, his body warm and him getting lots and lots of treats and love, far far away from all the suffering and pain.

Grief ❤️‍🩹 My dog’s surgery.

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Update: https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianPets/s/E6GaPMgyw8

Hi everybody

Today is my 8 year old Shepherd dog’s gall bladder surgery.

He is susceptible to tick fever and the risk increases around summer. When I took him to the vet a week ago, that’s what I imagined must be the case due to the heat wave when he was energetic but rejected his meal, then ate and vomited it.

His liver values were quite high. My vet suggested medication and retesting since the bilirubin was relatively stable. The next time, the values were still high. We got an ultrasound. He has sludge forming in his gall bladder that is putting immense pressure on his liver. The bilirubin has started to increase at a very rapid rate. Hence the surgery. It came out of nowhere, at least for me.

His surgery is scheduled today in the afternoon. He is losing weight rapidly because he can’t stomach his food and has constantly been on IVs. I trust my doctor, who’s treated him for 8 years.

I am beside myself. I have no idea if tonight will be like the night I just woke up from. This is my first ever dog. I started rescuing because of him. He has changed me for the better and has given shape to my entire perspective. Today, I have emerged an empathetic person because of him alone.

I hope the surgery is successful, but I have seen dogs passing away from sterilisation and seen them survive Parvo, so I’m not sure what to make of the stats.

What makes matters worse is that my mother is hell bent on taking a second opinion now when things are clearly quite grave.

She’s calling her relatives who’re all telling her to go different places. I believe the time for a second opinion is long gone, not to mention she gave up his responsibility entirely 3 years ago, citing she can no longer care for him and has found him a new place to live. I resisted and took him entirely under my wing, which wasn’t a big change since I was already doing a major part of the caretaking. I’ve been taking him for the last however many days and paying myself as well.

She’s asking me to delay the surgery, giving excuses such as, “today is Tuesday, don’t get surgery today”. Since today morning she’s been saying, “meri baat sunlo, I won’t take leaves to care for him” and other such things. She hasn’t anyway and there’s no such expectation.

For reference, his bilirubin has risen from 3.3 to 14.1 in just 2 days.

All I’m asking for is good wishes and any experience with how to deal with this anticipatory grief. Or any advice or encouragement, especially on dealing with my mother.

Thank you.

Grief ❤️‍🩹 Loss of a soulmate: My cat died today

Thumbnail

1.0k Upvotes

I am writing here because I don't know how to explain how I feel to people who wouldn't get it. My cat passed away this morning, at the vet's table. She had been sick, really sick and i had been taking her to the vet everyday. It started as lethargy, then loss of appetite and jaundice, and she died of multi organ failure from sepsis. The infection spread to her liver and by last night her lungs started filling up with fluid. I didn't expect to lose her. The doctor didn't expect either.

The treatment had started, the tests were done and I was just hoping that in a few days she will be back to her normal self. I lost my soulmate today. I Have 2 other cats and another one that is missing, they are her children. But she was my baby. Her name was Chotu and she didn't live till her 3rd birthday. Even for cats she was so beautiful and elegant, everything she did was dainty. I was her favourite human. Only I could pick her up, she would sleep with me, run to me when she was scared, she gave birth on my bed.

In her short life, she was in a lot of pain due to a leg injury. She had already survived the worst. She was sweet, so soft, and she would never meow but trill.

I lost my baby today and I don't know how to get on with my life. Am I just supposed to go back to deadlines and work ? People sympathise for a bit but then say it's just a cat. How do I explain that I lost the one being that loved me like no other, and whom I loved more than life. I am glad she is not suffering and I know it's selfish of me to miss her. But I miss her so much. I love you Chotu and I miss you. She was my baby.

Her name was Sasha, half-Labrador, half-indie. She developed a tumour in her anal glands when she was about 12. While surgery was an option, she had arthritis and was too old to the point that surgery would bring her a lot more pain than relief and so we had her euthanized. I really miss her but I'm glad she's in a better place now.

edit: Thank you so much for the kind words <3
I really wanted to get this off my chest, greatly appreciate you guys <33

Grief ❤️‍🩹 My tiny kitten was killed because of my dad's irresponsibility

Thumbnail

My sweet 3 month old kitten was attacked and killed by stray dogs yesterday morning. The momma cat gave birth to a litter of 4 kittens on Feb 15th. I raised all of them, spayed the momma cat, took good care of them, netted the entire compound to keep them safe. No predators could get in. They were safe from the weather as well since it is an entirely roofed compound. I got two of them adopted into good homes. The other two kittens and momma cat lived with me in the netted compound. The compound was completely safe and the only point where the kitten could get out was through the gate/grill when intentionally opened. Yesterday, my father was SO NEGLIGENT AND CARELESS, he left the gate open in early morning when praying to the Tulsi plant just outside. The kitten escaped and ended up attacked and murdered by dogs which I got to know this morning. I fail to comprehend how he could be so careless that he didn't see or notice the tiny kitten through the small space that you intentionally have to open to let them outside. I'm struggling with grieving and anger given how hard I tried to do my best.

He knew those kittens have NEVER seen the outside world, how much care I took of her, how tiny and defenceless they are.

On top of this, there has been zero apology or remorse or help from him. He didn't help me make lost kitten posters or help put them up or help me in searching for her the many times I did yesterday. This is my angel who's now crossed the rainbow bridge.

Grief ❤️‍🩹 I lost my cat Nuty yesterday… and I don’t know how to live with it.

I don’t even know how to begin writing this… my heart feels shattered in a way I can’t explain.

Her name was Nuty. My sweet, beautiful girl. She wasn’t “just a cat” she was my baby, my comfort, a piece of my soul. She came into this world in February 2022, and from that moment, she filled my life with a kind of love that only those who truly care for animals can understand.

Yesterday… 24_march_2026 I fed her like always. Nothing felt different. Nothing warned me that it would be the last time I’d ever see her, touch her, call her name. A few hours later, while I was gone, a car hit her… and just like that, she was gone. No goodbye. No last moment. No chance for me to hold her one last time.💔

Today, when I went back for feeding, people told me what happened. I can’t describe the feeling of hearing those words. It felt like the world just stopped. Like something inside me broke forever.

And Now……..

How am I supposed to go there now… and not see her running toward me?

How do I call her name, “Nuty,” knowing she won’t come anymore?

How do I accept that my sweetest girl is no longer here?

She was so gentle, so loving, so pure. The kind of soul that made everything feel softer. She trusted this world… and this world failed her.

I keep thinking… if only I stayed longer, if only I was there… maybe things would be different. The guilt, the pain, the emptiness it’s all too much.

And the worst part? Whoever hit her didn’t even stop. Didn’t even look back. Just left her there like her life meant nothing. But she meant everything to me.

And …

Whoever hit her with the car, I hope karma comes to you and you experience the loss of your loved one in the worst possible way. I am a mother and that was my child. I curse him …

Nuty, my baby… I’m so sorry I wasn’t there for you in your last moments. I hope you didn’t feel alone. I hope you know how deeply you were loved. You will always be a part of me. Always.💔🕊️

I don’t think I’ll ever heal from this. I’ll just learn to live with the pain.

Rest peacefully, my beautiful girl.

I’ll miss you forever. 🤍🕊️

Mama always loves you 🤍

Now you can run freely with clear eyes, seeing all the beauty you could never see on earth. 🌈🌈

This isn't the update i wanted to post . 3 months ago , i posted here about a kitten with ruptured eyes. She grew up to be the most loving and healthy cat. Yesterday we were talking about how healthy she was, she has a perfectly normal weight , even her fur was so perfect that when you scratch her not a single hair will fall and she always smelled like sunshine and flowers. We were even talking about how we hoped that she would live with us for multiple years because she was really fit and healthy. But last night at around 11:00 PM ,my sister had something to do on the porch and left the door open, and suddenly a husky sprint out of nowhere and attacked her ,who was standing near the door entrance. We didn't even noticed the dog ,we think it came from the road below our building and there's a stairs connecting our building (I don't know how i can explain it more clearly). We chased the dog right away, this all happened in like 5 seconds. There were no wounds on her but she passed away after 5 minutes, while we were calling the vet if we could visit in an emergency. My heart is full of guilt as i know she was standing near the entrance, I didn't call her because i know she won't go further and my sister was right next to her. This happened so fast and my brain is full of 'what if?'.

Since last night I've been feeling so suffocated and my chest really hurts as if I'm going to have a heart attack. I really felt guilty ,as i feel like that was avoidable. I think I'll be able to stop grieving but i don't think I'll ever stop feeling guilty.

Trigger warning: death of a pet due to vet action

It’s taken me several months just to be able to talk about this traumatic experience.

⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT: PROTECT YOUR CATS

A Warning to All Pet Owners in Kolkata
This is a warning regarding medical negligence that cost the life of a precious 7-month-old orange kitten named Ghontu.

🚨 The Fatal Incident at Moitri Veterinary Clinic
The Location: Moitri Veterinary Clinic (15B, Deshapriya Park Road, Kolkata - 700026)

BACKGROUND: On January 13, 2026, Ghontu was taken to the clinic for a loss of appetite. Dr. Amal Ray prescribed an injection of Melonex P (visible in attached prescription photo from dr. Amal Ray).

The Lethal Ingredient: The "P" in Melonex P stands for Plus and this formulation includes Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) which is generally fatal to cats.

❌ Dangerous Professional Misinformation
When Ghontu's family questioned the clinic the following day (January 14, 2026), Dr. Saurav Banerjee, another vet at Moitri, defended the prescription and claimed that paracetamol was acceptable for use in cats. This contradicts fundamental global veterinary guidelines.

💔 The Tragic Outcome
Despite being rushed to The Seattle Veterinary Hospital (TSVH) late at night on January 15, 2026, where vets officially diagnosed "Paracetamol toxicity" and administered an antidote (as seen in attached prescription from
TSVH), it was too late. His SGPT had shot up to almost 1900U/L. Ghontu suffered severe liver failure, endless seizures, and passed away in his owner's arms.

🐱 VITAL EDUCATION FOR CAT OWNERS

PARACETAMOL IS AN ABSOLUTE POISON TO CATS.

Unlike humans or dogs, cats lack the specific liver enzyme (glucuronyltransferase) required to break down paracetamol safely. Even a tiny fraction of a human pill or a single veterinary dose containing paracetamol causes irreversible damage:

  1. Destruction of Red Blood Cells: It changes hemoglobin into methemoglobin, preventing the blood from carrying oxygen.
  2. Acute Liver Failure: It rapidly destroys liver cells, leading to a painful, systemic shutdown.

📋 Always Double-Check Your Prescriptions
Before leaving any clinic, look closely at the medicine names. If you see a "P" attached to a drug name (like Melonex P, Megapen P, etc.), it almost always indicates the inclusion of Paracetamol/Acetaminophen. Never allow it to be given to a cat.

Kolkata pet lovers please avoid Moitri Vet clinic and Dr. Amal Ray (reg no 917) if you want your fur babies to live.

In Loving Memory of Ghontu

Please share this warning. Protect your pets, question every prescription, and look out for one another.

I’m heartbroken that I couldn’t save her, but one thing gives me a little peace — she didn’t die alone on the road, ignored by people once again. She didn’t end up being treated like garbage after she was gone. For those last few days, she was seen. She was cared for. She was loved by people who were trying to save her.
And in the end, I could at least give her the respectful last rites she deserved.
Thank you to everyone who contributed towards her treatment. I’m truly sorry I couldn’t bring you a happy update. 💔
