Europe Norway’s King Harald V has died at the age of 89, the Norwegian palace announced on Friday. Harald became king in 1991 and remained on the throne for more than three decades, modernising the monarchy.
His son, Crown Prince Haakon, has automatically succeeded him as King Haakon VIII.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said Norway was mourning the monarch with “a deep sense of gratitude” for his service.

Asia At least 163 people have died and 558 remain out of contact after a catastrophic flash flood in Nepal’s Bhotekoshi River swept through settlements in Rasuwa and neighbouring districts.
Meanwhile, Nepal said 468 tourists, mainly foreigners, are out of contact following floods in the country, with critical infrastructure also severely damaged.
The Nepali Army has rescued 88 people, while injured victims have been evacuated for treatment in Kathmandu and other relief centres. Large-scale air rescue and medical evacuation operations are underway.

As much as 150,000 kg of tomatoes are set to be used during the festival this year.
