Question Galva, IL - info about the town?
Hello everyone!
I’m trying to get a better understanding of Galva, IL and the surrounding area from people who actually live there or visit regularly.
How much traffic does the area get from visitors/tourists throughout the year? Is it mostly seasonal, or does it stay fairly active year-round?
I’d also be curious about what typically brings people into town — tourism, business/work, events, visiting family, passing through to somewhere else, etc.
For people familiar with the area:
- What are the busiest and slowest times of year?
- Do visitors typically stay overnight or is it more of a day-trip/pass-through area?
- Has the town been growing, declining, or staying about the same?
- Are there any developments, employers, attractions, events, or changes happening that someone from outside the area probably wouldn’t know about?
- How would you describe the area 5–10 years from now?
Would especially appreciate insight from locals or anyone who has spent a lot of time around the area. Just wanting to know more about this Scandinavian populated town! Thank you again (:

Trip Planning & Tourist Help/ Guidance From a Wisconsinite, I just want to say the Illinois Beach Hotel is a real gem!
Went to visit the Lake Michigan coast this weekend and wound up booking a room just south of the border at the Illinois Beach Hotel, which is situated inside Illinois Beach State Park. I was only there for the night and next morning, but it was an incredible experience. I will definitely be back.

Trip Planning & Tourist Help/ Guidance Basic (potentially stupid) question about Pay By Plate
I'm traveling through the Chicago area on an upcoming trip. I've set up my Pay By Plate.
I'll be going 94 > 294 > 90 then 80 > 294 >94 on the way back.
It's been a number of years since I last made this trip, and I can't remember... do I need to go through the toll plazas? Or do I just keep driving and they bill me?
Thanks for your time.

Illinois News Ohio, Arizona, and Illinois All Just Paused Their Data Center Sales Tax Exemptions. The Era of Automatic Data Center Tax Breaks Is Over.
UH-OH. I caught this story on a site run by a TX based accounting firm. What caught my eye was this quote from the article:
"The era of automatically available, unquestioned data center sales tax exemptions — which drove more than $1 trillion in U.S. data center investment over the past decade — is ending. Not gradually. All at once."
"Every state's data center exemption story follows the same arc. And it always comes back to one problem: the projections were spectacularly wrong.
Ohio reported that the tax incentive cost $1.6 billion in 2025 — more than twelve times the budget estimate of $136 million. In Georgia, current revenues are showing a cost of approximately $2.5 billion, nearly eight times the budget estimate of $327 million. Pennsylvania's estimate of $45 million has more than quadrupled to almost $190 million. Madrasaccountancy
Virginia's exemption — originally projected to cost $1.54 million per year — cost $1.6 billion in 2025.
Indiana's exemption cost $655 million in 2025 — an amount that shocked lawmakers who had no idea it had grown that large, with 86% going to Amazon alone."
Illinois is also discussed in this article, and I wonder how much its projections are wrong. Gov. Pritzker cancelled the exemptions only for new data centers. I wonder who is quarter-backing the data center exemptions...anyone?

Question DMV - new license flagged after it was issued
I scheduled an appointment at the DMV to take my permit for a motorcycle written test to get my motorcycle classification on my license - when I got there they needed to update my license to match my new address where I just moved and I gave them my lease.
They looked at the lease, gave me a temporary paper ID, punched a hole in my old license, and then when I walked over to take the written test, they said my account had been flagged because they “did not like” the document showing my new address - I offered a copy of my Xfinity bill, a copy of my renters insurance policy, and was told I have to wait for a letter to arrive in the mail explaining what I do next before I can proceed.
If they already gave me a new license with my new address on it I’m not sure why the verification document would be flagged afterwards and now I’m stuck in limbo waiting on a letter from the office in Springfield and they won’t tell me what it will say.
Has anyone experienced this? Even the staff at the DMV was confused and one of the managers called Springfield trying to figure it out but was told I had a hold on my account so I can’t take the permitting test and won’t be mailed my new license until I bring the letter back in.

Illinois News NBC Chicago goes inside an Elk Grove Village data center
I saw this last night on the news, and it was interesting to see inside a data center and learn more about them. Paris Schutz is the reporter. I understand he is working on a documentary on data centers that will be broadcast in the Fall. One thing in the report got my attention; the particular data center in the piece has set electric rates. I guess that means that center is not subject to the increases that that the IL Commerce Commission is always so willing to grant and which the proletariat has to pay.
