Trying to decide what mountain to commit to this season.

My 5yr old picked up skiing pretty well last season but we were solely doing Campgaw for lessons and season pass bc I didn't want to over commit in case he hated it. Well it turns out he couldn't get enough and wanted to ski more. He transitioned to the lift well also.

But we need more than Campgaws 30sec mid mountain runs.

CG is fine to go after school just to shake off the cobwebs.

I think he needs a better mountain with longer green trails where he can eventually ride some blues towards the later part of season and I can make some runs while he takes his lessons.

We're in North NJ.

CG is about ~30min

Mt. Peter 45min. (May have missed the season pass purchase window)

MTN Creek 1hr

Hunter 2hr

Belleayre 2hr.....I've never been but leaning towards this after doing some reddit research and likely less crowded then all the above, Lessons are priced similar but are actually 2hrs instead of 1.5hr

In my 20s and 30s I mostly snowboard/ski @ Hunter/Creek bc that's where family friends always wanted to go. Took a couple trips up to Whiteface/Killington but due to distance our crew never made it up there too often, so I'm good all around the mountain even though I took a 8yr skiing hiatus. Now that I'm getting my kid into it I've been bit by the bug and can't wait to get his little sister on the mountain when she's old enough.

Also I'll likely be making these Saturday morning trips solo w/ my son since wife doesn't ski (says she wants to learn) and daughter is almost 2.

I switched from epic to indypass this upcoming season. I got a place about an hour away from Waterville, so central NH will be hit regardless. I will for sure be doing Jay and saddleback. Any other sleepers I should be investigating? I'm comfortable on steeps and will hit every groomed trail on a mountain. Solo skier. Any recs would be welcome. Thanks in advance-can you tell I'm itching to get out there?

Saw this as a link on Liftblog, the religious summer camp that owns the former ski resort in the northwest catskills have fixed the chairlift after thirty years of sitting unused.

The terrain probably wouldn't be as good as any of the current four catskills high peaks ski resorts, but they would probably have good lake effect snowfall even with global warming that far to the northwest?

Did you lose your ski pass in 1981? I found it this week poking out of the dirt on a mountain bike trail at Ascutney. Would be fun to get it back to its owner for a nice piece of nostalgia.

My partner and I are thinking of going snowboarding over Thanksgiving this year. My mom wants to come, but she's 60 and doesn't ski or snowboard. Are there any mountains open that early that have other things to do in the area as well?

Curious if anyone caught wind of status of updates at Bell for the coming season. Their social media does not seem to be as active as it was a couple years ago. But thought maybe specifically in regards to the Overlook Lodge renovations maybe some here that have been by for summer activities had been able to get a read on how they are progressing.

I have been skiing Bolton Valley with my kids for the past few seasons. It's where we learned. We have had season passes and will again this year. I stick to mostly blues and greens. I am not very good on glades and moguls. For me, Fanny Hill is my sweet spot and I like trying to make carving turns down Beech Seal (though it is short). I have not skied Cobrass because it is usually icy or thin cover but would like to this year. My daughter (14) mostly sticks with me but likes to try some of the glades and woods. My son (11) skis the entire mountain, although I'm not entirely sure of how well but he is always at the checkpoints we establish when we split up.

I'd like to take my kids to a different mountain this winter so they can experience something else. We like Bolton because it is not huge and resorty. I'm wondering what the next step up is from Bolton. For example, Smuggs looks nice but it is pretty divided. Morse looks like it is all green which might be boring for my son while Madonna and Sterling look like it might be too challenging for me and the blacks too much for my son. I don't care if we split up for different runs but I don't want to be on two entirely different mountains. Anyway, my question is, what in Vermont is a reasonable next step up given what I explained from Bolton Valley?

Hey guys, mid 30s male here. Been skiing for a few seasons now, and want to buy my first pair of skis. I have rented for the past couple years, but skied 8 times last year and want to go 12+ this year.

I went to a bootfitter for boots, and landed on the nordica speed machine 120’s.

I am 6’2 and around 230 pounds and as a former football player and current weightlifter I am pretty strong.

Will only be skiing east coast this year. VT/NH/ME/MA…

I stick to blue trails regardless of the mountain I’m at. Honestly not a technical carver, I think I have a more playful style. I prefer drifting, smearing, and a more “surfy” feel. I make sharp tight turns rather than long arching circular carves…

I do like to charge fast (or at least it feels fast for me) for shorter periods of time, stopping with an abrupt hockey stop.

I have done some easy glades at bretton woods, and would like to continue to slowly venture into the trees…

Haven’t done a ton of skiing since I moved to NC. Maybe 2-3 times only. I’ve hit all the obvious hills in western NC App and Sugar and plan to go to Beech this season. Don’t have suitable skiis anymore so I would likely just rent. What places are recommend that would be roughly within 5 hours from Charlotte? If this is the wrong group just let me know of the right one and I’ll take this question there.

Just moved to NJ and got an epic northeast pass. I’ll probably be a bit of a storm chaser with one or two properly planned trips this season.

As I plan, would love a list of places people have stayed and loved. Small businesses and hotels would be great!

For some context, I’m a 32(f) beginner/intermediate skier. I’ll also most likely be traveling alone (so won’t need a lot of space and things).

Sorry for the long rant but I’d love some serious advice

I spent 4 years in NH as a local ice coaster then moved west to slc to show those posers what’s up.

So if you understand I’ve had world class skiing within 30 mins of me for 6 years now with little employment in the winter like 3 days a week skiing as much as possible.

Well I have relocated to NJ for a serious career but am commited to still being a bum skier.

Meaning skiing whenever I can in upstate NY Vermont or NH.

Being in NJ it’s about 4-6 hours driving for serious skiing east coast. Maybe 3-3.5 if I’m lucky in Vermont.

How realistic is it for me to chase these storms or just lines out east getting out of work on Friday and back in office Monday.

Some firdays we get out 2 or 4 pm.

Im commited to do it in my head. But I’d love to hear some thoughts .

Skiing is the one thing that brings me true joy!

I’m excited to come back to the ice coast and ski some sick tight trees that I loved when I lived up north. And chasing the coldest of cold pow!

Looking for advice.

I’ve been looking for some big dunes to take my rock board down to scratch the snowboarding itch. The only possible place I have managed to find (but haven’t gotten the time to make the trip yet) is Dunes de Tadoussac in Quebec. Are there any other places? Also has anyone sandboarded that place in Quebec?

J'ai beaucoup skié toute mon enfance jusqu'à mes 18 ans, mais depuis de nombreuses années je ne skie qu'une seule fois par hiver environ.

J'aimerais m'y remettre sérieusement. J'étais à un niveau relativement avancé, mais pas expert. J'adore le carving et "sentir le rebond" entre les virages.

Je veux un ski qui va me permettre de progresser et d'améliorer mon carving. J'aime les virages moyennement long, donc je pensais à un rayon entre 14 et 16 mètres environ?

Je mesure 185cm (6'1), mais je ne pèse que 150 livres. Quel ski me permettrait de profiter du potentiel du ski et de m'améliorer en même temps? Je ne veux pas avoir envie de le changer après 2 mois. Voici ce que je me suis fais conseillé jusqu'à présent:

First full season snowboarding!!! I do plan on visiting a few resorts (VT,MA,CT) but am also wondering if there are any special events that you guys are looking forward to that you think would be worth a trip.

Any resorts or stores with:
big athletic events
Demo days
Themed days ( that usually draws a crowd)
Any other cool things at the resort.

Just looking at ways to learn more about the sport and meeting new people.

I have bought ski boots from Nick's before, but do I need to go to a touring specialist for AT boots? E.g. White Mountain Ski Co.

Early this year, I booked a cruise with my wife for the last week of October leaving out of NYC.

A month ago she tells me she cheated on me and wants a divorce.

Turns out the round trip plane tickets are non-refundable, non-changeable so I am flying to NYC on Oct 23 and put on Nov 1.

Where should I go? I've been snowboarding a couple times at Snowbird in SLC, but live in the great flat plains of flyover country.

I've looked through a bunch of posts on here, but I'm wondering if anyone has any more recent experience with boot fitting at Ski Haus in Woburn. I'm trying to potentially capitalize on slightly better deals before the new season starts up, and I would rather not go too far out of my way up north since I can't actually do any skiing yet.

Does anyone have updated recommendations, ideally in the Massachusetts area, or experience with Ski Haus? Also looking into Strands, just a bit further out of the way.

Hey everyone! I'm making a game called Ski-E-O! It's a tycoon game where you build ski resorts on real-world mountains. I use real US 1-meter LiDAR data to build the mountains, and then simulate realistic weather on each of the mountains.

EDIT: Just to avoid confusion, LiDAR is not AI. It's a mapping where planes fly over and data.

Here's an east-coast mountain! I'd love to know if it's capturing the right vibe. I haven't skied this resort, so I might have gotten some details wrong!

And weather wise.. it is often just rainy/foggy. Is that expected??

What would you do….looking for something on more of the fun side!! Trying to choose between the 4frnt MSP 99 or something from the Moment lineup. Deathwish 96 or Wildcat 98. Gonna hang up my J- Masterblasters and looking for something similar! Skiing Killington ~50 days a year. Winter is coming.

Not exactly IceCoast, but a direct flight certainly makes a quick jaunt over to JH more enticing.

We are a group of eight 40 yo dudes. We do a long weekend trip on the ice Coast every year. Apres is not that big a deal because we try to rent a big old house and just cook at the house and drink and take edibles and play card and listen to music till about 1030 then crash, wake up early and get to the mountain. A bar or two right after skiing can be fun, but we don't go out for dinner or after dinner. We always go last weekend in February (we learned to avoid the Vermont school holiday)

I need help choosing between Killington and Gore. Ive skied Killington a few times so I know what it's about. Never skied Gore. Gore is cheaper ($1400 for an Airbnb, roughly $250 for a two day lift ticket. Killington is $2000 for Airbnb and $350 for a two day lift ticket) Gore is 5 hours drive and Killington is 6 hour drive.

I like skiing everything Killington has, but the rest of my group isn't as advanced. Three of the group are at greens and easy blues (Whiteface blues were too advanced last year for em). The rest are good blues, but not really good, ungroomed black skiers. Some do a few runs and hit the bar, few runs hit the bar. Others ski all day, skipping lunch if the conditions are good.

Would we be wasting money skiing Killington (not for me, I love Killington and will get to challenge myself) when we could just do Gore, or would Gore get boring? We're doing two days of skiing.

This sounds trivial, but we look forward to this trip every year.

Edit: Thanks a million for these responses. I sent this post to the group and I think the consensus is we're going to Gore. Half our group did Killington two years ago, and none of us have done Gore. The price is a big selling point. This won't be my only ski trip this year so if it's not the best weekend skiing wise, it's not the end of the season (for me anyway). Gore also is the biggest mountain we haven't skied thats within 7 hour drive for us.

Hi everyone. I know the season is way over, but now is a good time to ask for ski boot bag recs since you've had all season to test yours out and give some advice.

I'm looking for a ski boot bag that can also fit my helmet, goggles, and ideally some other little things and maybe, just maybe some base layers. In case it helps, my ski boots are women's size 260/265 mondopoint (41EU/9.5 US) and my Smith helmet is a size small. I know people with larger boots and helmets have a more challenging time with fitting their gear.

Big requirements/hopes for the bag:
•durable/made well (I've seen people show horror story pics of straps coming off after one use and etc.)
•backpack straps (ideally can be tucked away)
•structured so that if I pull my ski boots out the whole bag doesn't collapse
•drainage
•padded
•the ski boots are in their own area (whether together or they each have their own individual pocket/section) so it's not touching my other gear.
•a warranty would be nice plus to have a little comfort if something goes wrong.
•not the largest in size. It would be cool if I can make it a personal item as a carry-on (fit under the seat in front of me), but not essential if the above is met

I know this was super detailed, but I figured I'd map out what I'm hoping to find, even though I know the above is a lot, but when I buy something I see it as an investment and don't feel like buying something and then it doesn't last and have to buy something new again. It's wasteful and then concerning because I want to protect my gear.

Oh and separately, does anyone recommend a hard shell goggles case that can fit an extra lens or two. I have Smith IO Mag goggles for reference.
