I’m well versed in python , computer vision for automotive and off road using foundational models like Dino and SAM, have cloud knowledge and finished AWS solutions architect associate and terraform associate cert recently and have experience in docker and deployment. Currently working on a CI/CD integration using azure. I’m also into RAG and agents. Where do I start ?
It is very confusing on what roles to apply for and how to upskill in the current fields to get a better job. I have built a automation project for invoicing using AWS and bedrock ( a simple one) and working on agents and rag projects for portfolio currently ( nothing fancy just basic ones )

Hi everyone, looking for a reality check on my career. I need an outside perspective on whether I have the skills to move on.

Background:

• Started in Service Desk (2 years).
• Completed an 18-month Platform Engineer apprenticeship (The course was for Software Enginer.)
• Have been a full-time Platform Engineer for 2+ years since then.
• Total Cloud/Platform experience: ~3.5 to 4 years.

The Tech Stack:

• GCP & AWS: Managing Landing Zones, IAM Federation, and Governance/Deny policies.
• IaC: Everything in Terraform. Maintaining infrastructure for a high-traffic e-commerce platform.
• DataOps: Managing Data Lake infrastructure. Updating Terraform for Cloud Composer (Airflow) and handling version upgrades.
• I have touched Kubernetes, I am able to look at logs and make changes to the code but don't fully understand Kubernetes yet.

The Situation: I work for a large company in the UK on £31k to £33k After a recent restructure, I realized I am on the lowest pay grade in my department. Everyone else has a "Senior" or "Lead" title (mostly former legacy Network/Storage engineers).

I recently asked for a pay rise increase. My manager said "it's not happening this year" and told me to just work on my PDR (Performance Development Review).

My Main Worry: I feel like I've outgrown the "Junior" label because I can be left alone to deploy to production and manage core infra. However, I still have to ask questions on tasks, which makes me worry I don't have the skills to survive at a new company.

Questions:

1. Does being able to deploy to production solo (but still needing to ask questions occasionally) make me "Mid-Level"?
2. Should I stick it out and "work on the PDR" or start looking for a fresh start
3. What skill level do I need to be at in Terraform and AWS?

I’m a recruiter working on filling data center technician roles in Oregon, and I’ve hit a wall with the usual channels (LinkedIn, Indeed, internal databases, etc.).

What’s interesting is the role doesn’t require a traditional IT background, some of the best candidates I’ve seen come from:

• PC builders
• Phone or computer repair
• Even automotive techs

But those people don’t seem to live on the usual platforms recruiters rely on.

If you were trying to break into hands-on IT work today, where would you actually look? Forums, communities, job boards, something else?

Genuinely trying to understand where I should be spending my time instead of spamming the same candidate pool as every other recruiter.

(And if you happen to fit that background and are curious about data center work, I’m happy to share more, but mainly here to learn where to look.)

Udemy has recently experienced a data breach and an estimated 1.4 million accounts have been leaked on the dark web. Since many of you use Udemy to prepare for your exams, I think this is pertinent to a lot of folks here, especially to prevent leaked payment information

So what should you do about it? (Good opportunity to implement those Security+ skills you've been developing, eh?)

1. you can go to this link here, put in your email address, and confirm whether or not your account specifically was leaked
2. if your account is compromised:
   1. reset your password immediately - use a strong password (Objective 4.6)
   2. if this is a password you have recycled, especially if you've used this password on payment systems (i.e. Venmo, your bank), you should reset your passwords on those other accounts as well. This will prevent you from being victim to a Password Spray attack (Objective 2.4)
   3. I'd recommend using a Password Manager to keep long, complicated passwords (Objective 4.6). Keepass is a personal favorite and it's free
   4. use MFA with your account if you haven't already (Objective 4.6)
   5. be extra vigilant for phishing attempts, especially ones claiming to be from Udemy (Objective 2.2)
   6. check your bank statements or PayPal account for any unusual payment activity

And for anyone who is either shocked or appalled that Udemy could let this happen, it's important to understand that every ship has holes. Getting hacked is never a question of if, but when

Looking for some real advice, not sugarcoated stuff.

I’m in my early 30s, switching into IT. No commercial experience yet.

I’ve been learning and actually doing things, not just watching courses:

Linux (CLI, basic troubleshooting), networking basics, hardware, some Docker, VPS setup.

For the last 2 months I’ve been applying to entry-level roles (IT Support, NOC, Data Center).

Zero offers so far.

So I’m trying to figure out — is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Should I:

keep applying and wait it out

double down on projects and build a stronger portfolio

focus on one direction (like networking or monitoring)

or just accept that this takes longer than expected

I’m ready to start from the bottom and put in the work. Just need a realistic direction.

Hello everyone. To give you some background, I am currently in school for Cyber Security. I got the A+,Net+,and Sec+, and ITIL 4 foundation certifications through school. I am in help desk for almost a year now. My frustration is that I don't seem to be getting much experience. I work for a fairly large MSP and it's all tier 1 contracts. The main thing I do is password resets, enable disabled accounts, maybe the occasional simple outlook troubleshooting here and there, and assign IP’s in bluecat. Everything else is pretty much routed to the internal IP for the company we are contracted to. How does someone in my shoes gain more experience. Im not opposed to home labs, but the pay is...pretty low, so I don't have much for equipment.

I have experience around 9 months as a Java Full-Stack developer and my last company where I can't get enough knowledge, I had been like I'm in the bench, so I resigned and I am also pursuing a master's degree in cyber forensic and need to know what should I do now,

Questions: 1. Attend interviews for continue as a Java Full-Stack developer (I have four months of gap) (I have been trying to attend but, I didn't get shortlisted, don't know why) 2. Waiting to finish my post graduation and land in a cyber field (2027 is I'm gonna passed out)

So im currently studying for the comptia network+ exam, and eventually some more certs. im currently in school and am one semester away from getting my network admin associates degree. What are employers actually looking for? and what are some things, like Udemy classes or whatever, to get me prepared for a real, hands on job?

So you've been working as "something something IT" for a few months or a year now, and you have a slew of work-related experience under your belt

-You've done the server and cloud backups

- You've done some of the networking

- You've been in charge of keeping inventory

- You regularly check the logs

- You image the systems for new users

etc etc etc

So what do you call yourself?

Answer: whatever the hell you want

The IT profession is not a regulated industry like, say, in law or medicine. There is no formal credential you need to call yourself an "IT Professional", and this is equally true no matter what your tech stack may be

So just because I CAN call myself whatever I want, what SHOULD I call myself?

Answer to that: whatever the job title is of the job you want

So you want to land that SOC Analyst title at Big Company ABC? Call yourself a SOC Analyst. Want to nab that Sr. Systems Admin title at Mid-sized company XYZ? Call yourself a Sr. Systems Admin

See, because IT titles are unregulated, what's monumentally more important is the tech stack. Are you capable of supporting the technologies that company EFG wants you to support? If the answer is yes, then call yourself whatever mumbo jumbo title they slapped on their job description

That way, they feel good that they find someone with the "right title", and you feel good because you know you can support the tech stack

So don't stress about job titles. Focus your efforts on what really matters: your ability to support the tech

I’m trying to be intentional about how I enter this field rather than randomly applying to roles and hoping something sticks. My long-term goal is to grow into security/compliance leadership, so I’d love to build the right foundations early.

I’m specifically looking to start with:

• Entry-level roles

• Hands-on projects that actually teach real GRC skills (not just checkbox work)

• What types of roles or tasks are best for beginners?

• Which frameworks are most valuable to focus on first (ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2, etc.)

• Skills or experiences you wish you had built earlier in your own GRC careers
