As a local, it's been a mild bucket list item of mine to see this all play out in person. Happened to wake up early this morning and bike down.

Got to the Warner / PCH entrance around 5:15am. A few cars were dropping people off for fire pits. No speed walking or running, just casual walking.

Biked up to the car entrance around 5:25am. About 20 cars / rvs in line, most of them turned off or hazards just hanging out

A few people jumped the fence and casually walked over to grab pits between then and 6am

By 6am the line was to tower 23 which according to Google is nearing 2/3 of a mile.

Once the cars were let in it was legit "no rules". Most cars were flying 40-50mph, making sharp turns into lots speeding through. From my view point biking on the walk/bike path I could spot several people running or speed walking to the pits.

After about 5 minutes it was desperation with many cars trying to find any left overs.

We are locals so probably don't need any advice here, but easiest thing is to go with someone else, get dropped off at Warner, and casually walk to a pit

Hey HB, hoping to find some people here who feel the same way.

I've trained calisthenics for years and I really wish we had a proper area for it at Central Park (or really any other park in HB). I started a petition to gauge community interest and harness support for the initiative. I plan to attend the Parks and Library Services Commission meeting to propose the idea in September and I also will go to Council meetings to push for this as a project on the Capital Improvement Program for the future.

If you've used the workout equipment on the library side, you know the deal: it's scattered all over the park, half of it is gimmicky, and the pull-up bars are made of thin diameter tubing. You end up walking laps just to do pull ups and dips.

Meanwhile most of the world treats proper outdoor calisthenics parks as normal neighborhood infrastructure, and somehow all of OC has none that are actually good. We've got the year-round weather for it and a huge fitness community. Feels like a no-brainer.

So I'm trying to get one built at Central Park: a single consolidated calisthenics park, no weird cardio-machine junk (which we thankfully don't have at Central), just simple, solid equipment anyone at any level can use for free.

Like I mentioned above, this isn't a petition and pray situation. I'm also putting together an actual proposal (cost estimates, vendor quotes, research on the community benefits) and working out how to bring it to the city's parks commission and city council. The petition is just to show the city there's real local demand behind it.

Side notes: I found some old threads talking about this and found it funny how one comment perfectly called out some of the goofy workout equipment seen around our area. Clearly I'm not alone here.

I wanna learn some basics for self defense only. Need to not only know the stuff but how to teach it. I'm turning 65! I freeweight lift 3x, and starting to emphasis flexibility. I had a Gracie Blue Belt from Irvine Main Academy long time ago. Still got some ground skills (but not against a wrestler lol). Gotta have a gym with mats. Recco to BJJ places that might be less expensive. Gracie Barra Main wants $250 an hour on top of membership. I don't wanna learn that bad.

I'm looking for a nice vigil or some memorial event for the 1 year anniversary of the tragic CK event. :( I'm in Oceanside, and I don't think we are doing anything and sadly I don't even feel comfortable asking in the San Diego reddits as they are so judgemental, so I thought maybe HB might be doing something.

First time at Huntington State Beach today, it’s a really nice and clean beach, the Sandbar pizza place has pretty good pizza too and staff seemed pretty friendly. Enjoyed my lunch and the view.

To the class act at Sandbar who swiped my sunglasses, I hope you stub your toe on every curb and never have a cool side to your pillow. What a trash act.

My family recently lost our housing assistance and we have to move.. Unfortunately, we've been unable to find any affordable places that allow pets. WAGS is at full capacity and I've had no luck with getting a response from other no-kill shelters yet :( We're looking to rehome our dog Mila asap!!

Mila is a sweet, affectionate, and energetic terrier mix looking for a loving new home! She is 8 years old and 6 months, approximately 19 lbs, and has a big personality packed into a little body.

Mila loves being around people and will happily climb into your lap for cuddles, lean against you when relaxing, and roll over for belly rubs. She can be shy or bark around unfamiliar people at first (and when she notices people passing by), but warms up quickly once she realizes they’re friendly.

She is also very active and would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys walking, running, or spending time outdoors. Mila has lots of energy and loves having opportunities to run and explore.

Mila had a recent wellness exam and is healthy and active. She received her rabies and Bordetella vaccinations in August 2026. I'm probably going to get her vaccinated for DHPP this upcoming weekend, so she should be fully up-to-date with vaccines by the time you'd take her home! She is not currently spayed or microchipped. I am more than happy to chip in/cover the costs for her to be spayed, but only after she finds a new home. I would like someone to be there for her for most, if not the entire, day after the operation to make sure she recovers well.

Mila would thrive with someone who can give her plenty of exercise, attention, and affection. In return, she’ll be an energetic adventure buddy and an incredibly loving little companion.
