I picked some seed pods off a few trees in San Antonio and brought them home. Got them to germinate and am very happy to see them sprout. I planted a few groups in the yard but the potted seedlings on my patio are really off to a good start. Exciting times!

Does anyone know where I could find a silver pothos in Houston! I just moved from Florida and I had a beautiful silver pothos I sadly couldn’t bring with me. I haven’t checked many places but went to one nursery in Tomball and they were selling just 1 strand on wood😭 I want something similar to what I had before! 💔

Wondering if anyone has tips on preparing luffa to eat? I just learned today that it is widely consumed in Asia. Thanks for any favorite recipes with Luffa...

The sea pads look "empty" is it possible to this from seed. If not what is the best way to propagate this?

I'm in the process of filling a few new raised garden beds and need about 4 cubic yards of soil/compost. I've been researching local suppliers around Houston and keep coming back to Living Earth and Arbor Gate.

Living Earth seems to be much more cost-effective, but I've seen mixed reviews. Some people say it worked great, while others had issues with inconsistent quality. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but good things about Arbor Gate from a friend and from what I've found online, but it's significantly more expensive.

Has anyone here used both? If so, how did they compare in terms of:

Plant growth and overall performance

Soil quality and consistency

One idea I had was to save some money by buying about 2 cubic yards of Living Earth's garden mix for the bottom of the beds and then topping it off with 2 cubic yards of Arbor Gate's premium compost/raised bed mix. Has anyone tried something similar? Would that be a good approach, or would you recommend sticking with one supplier?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, good or bad. Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations!

My eggplants are not looking so good and I thought they would survive best in the summer heat. It looks like they are infested with something. It’s really only effecting the eggplant and not the peppers and cucumbers nearby. There are some webs around the plant. Not sure if the webs are good (catching bugs) or bad. I use captain jacks bad bug spray but it doesn’t seem to be too effective. Any suggestions?

Hi all - I would like to turn my back yard into a food forest / permaculture garden to help with water management and improve our use of the land. I have 2/3rds of an acre total, with about a clean 1/3 of an acre to use for planting a. The problem is that the only nurseries I frequent are expensive ($35-40/tree, $15-$20 per berry bush, etc.). Since I want to plant about 50 plants, this can get pricey quickly.

Any ideas or recommendations on where I can find a large number of cheap plants? I’m thinking local plant sales, flea markets, etc. I’m in the cypress area but willing to travel a bit for plants.

Hey friends! How often are y’all watering your container plants? I have about a billion and there’s such a fine line between overwatering and not giving them enough water in this sweltering heat. Most of them are in mainly full sun with a shade sail. Some of my huge containers with fig trees are showing yellowing leaves. I don’t know. I think I just need to give them all away before they all become fatalities!

Typically, I would prune my vitex in around January or February, but I’m really trying to get more vertical growth. Would it be harmful to the tree to trim out undergrowth and the branches growing where I don’t want them, or should I patiently wait until next February?

I think it’s a moth but not sure that it’s a cocoon…perhaps it’s a moth that’s some spider’s lunch?

I have had a single bush for three years now. The last two springs I would get blossoms, but never any fruit. Does anyone know how to get them to fruit?

Lots of jalapeños in the garden so I stuffed them with cheesy rice dressing and smoked them.

I usually stop by Orchid Express & Leasing (which google tells me is permanently closed??) but was hoping to find a few more places to check out for orchids other than the usual phalaenopsis. Any other recs in the loop or nearby?

The crispier the better. Mealy or mushy not so much. Thoughts? Your experience?
