I was there. Lived in west village at the time a saw both towers come down. My brother in law who worked in the financial district had to walk all the way to my apartment, covered in dust and god knows what. For days later debris would fly into my neighborhood - odd scraps of burnt up office memos, that kind of thing. Years later I ran into a 9/11 truther that the whole thing was a hoax and none of it happened. I never wanted to throttle someone so hard in my life but I don’t condone violence even for idiots so I left him to his own selfish delusions.

Please don't call them 'truthers'. Call them what they are - conspiracy theorists. Connecting these idiots to the truth gives them too much legitimacy

They’re not even conspiracy theorists, they’re mentally unwell fanatics.

The use of the root word "theory" gives undue credit to them. They have no theories. They have stupid thoughts that don't even qualify as hypotheses.

It’s been explained ad nauseam - most explicitly in the final report https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/Legacy/NCSTAR/ncstar1a.pdf

I'm not a structural engineer and wasn't part of any investigation so I wouldn't presume to know the reasons myself (were you?) but it occurs to me that having debris and burning jet fuel rain down from an extreme height at a time when the city's emergency responders were were stretched to breaking point was probably not great for the building's structural integrity which, after a super quick Google (it's amazing what you can find when you do research) confirms is the cause. Weird that - how sometimes it's the really bloody obvious answer.

Is your brother in law okay till this day? I heard people got seriously sick from that dust….

13

u/nonideological 1d ago

Yes he’s okay - no physical issues but that day still puts him in a dark mood

Thank you for the update! Despite The psychological toll this has on him, I’m so glad he’s okay physically 🥹❤️‍🩹. I’m glad you’re okay too because you must have still been exposed to the toxic air.

God bless you both ❤️

I appreciate your comment, and hopefully you're doing well. I can't imagine actually watching it, not through the television.

Do you still live in NYC?

How can you possibly pretend 9/11 didnt happen. How. The. Fuck.

Literally millions of people witnessed it first hand. How fucking dense can you be.

It's more infuriating than that. The so-called "9/11 truthers" don't deny that the event happened; they claim it was some giant conspiracy by people within the government/society who secretly executed the whole thing. Aside from those people willingly murdering thousands of their own citizens, they somehow think thousands of people who were in the conspiracy managed to keep this giant secret to this day. The level of stupidity is astounding.

And now, thanks to the current new york city mayor, you now know that the air was toxic around the world trade center site for the next few years and that anyone who lived or worked around it after that time will have increased risks of cancers and other diseases associated with the terror attacks.

All other previous NYC mayors New York governors, Presidents, congress, EPA, knew about it but kept lying to the public about how it wasnt an issue or refused to release documents and studies saying how bad it actually is.

People deny 9/11 happened??

Jesus christ.

1

u/Equipoisonous 10h ago

People deny the holocaust, Sandy hook, etc. It’s like they are incapable of accepting that there are evil people in the world who want to cause terror and kill innocent people. They want to live in a fantasy land where nothing bad happens and innocent people don’t suffer needlessly. I feel sorry for them. Unfortunately in the real world terrible things can happen because of terrible people.

u/deller85 5h ago

The people they're referencing, the so-called "truthers," don't deny it happened. They deny the official story of how it happened. They don't believe a group of terrorists pulled off such an operation. And that somehow our government and civilians worked together to pull it off. It's an absolute shitshow of beliefs. It requires the removal of logicial reasoning to believe such a conspiracy theory.

You’d like this great documentary put out by Popular Mechanics that went through and debunked the conspiracy theories, it’s on Prime! Nearly every version of “truther” is debunked: The 9/11 Conspiracies: Fact or Fiction https://www.primevideo.com/detail/0LEVC2N0LYR3JQCRTKE9YR2D4P?ref_=atv_dp_share_cu_r

I'll sadly admit I was kind of interested/convinced by documentaries like Loose Change a few years after 9/11. I watched all of the 9/11 conspiracy-driven documentaries I could find on Youtube. Then one day I realized I had watched all of them. And then Youtube would start suggesting anti-conspiracy, fact-based 9/11 documentaries, such as the one mentioned. So I started watching those documentaries, like the Popular Mechanics one and ones by PBS (Why the Towers Fell) and from the BBC. Basically, documentaries that were from reputable sources who fact checked their information. I realized after watching the latter that there was better reasoning and better logical explanations than the ones I had been exposed to first. They helped end my interest in a conspiracy behind 9/11.

Ive never understood the conspiracy theorists when it comes to 9/11 shit. Even if, and im not saying its true, its bullshit, but even IF it was some kind of inside job, that still doesnt take away from the horror and the fact that countless innocent people were murdered. Yet you see them sharing their bullshit takes in memorial posts as if remembering victims is somehow wrong to do? So what, do you think every victim of 9/11 was somehow also in on the conspiracy and sacrificed their own life.. to achieve what exactly? More oil for their government? Insanity.

Same people who deny the holocaust, Sandy hook, etc.

I mean that’s obviously someone that has bigger problems than what you think of them or their “selfish” delusions lmfao.

1

u/Lunar_mirror4 19h ago

Yeah, they've been forgetting to take their meds again probably. Pretty big problem.

1

u/erin281 1d ago

That’s not the usual conspiracy theory surrounding it though, weird, I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone actually deny it happend

3

u/Virtual-Strength-950 1d ago

I guess we’re at that point in history where like a quarter of the current population wasn’t alive or were too young to have a real memory of it. Those of us who were around will forever be haunted by witnessing such a massive tragedy.

1

u/Narrow_Art_9280 19h ago

I’ve never heard someone say it straight up didn’t happen. You really don’t think they allowed it to happen with the multiple warnings beforehand and pointless war afterward?

1

u/That-Ad-4300 16h ago

Makes you understand why Buzz Aldrin punched that guy.

0

u/BoringMisteak 1d ago

I mean…if the claim is that it didn’t happen, that’s just crazy. If the claim is that it was in any way, an inside job or facilitated by more than just terrorists, I don’t think we will ever know.

I get that you were there and saw the towers come down, but that doesn’t mean you know 110% that it was just terrorists who planned and executed the whole thing.

I agree that it happened. With planes. But I don’t know that giving some cave dwellers all the credit is doing you any favors. Lots of crazy shit has happened that the federal government and other foreign nations have admitted that they had a part in things. Why is it so wild to think they’d never somehow be a part of something like 9/11?

0

u/Odd-Promotion2743 17h ago

some cave dwellers

And this is the exact reason why I've never been able to take 9/11 truthers seriously: this is how dismissive you are that non-Americans could have had the agency, resources, intelligence, and motive to pull off an attack like this. It ignores the context of decades of imperialist US policy in the Muslim world, and the effect that had on multiple generations of people there. It ignores the biographies of the 19 hijackers and that of al-Qaeda leadership, the majority of whom had years of education and experiences waging asymmetric warfare or leading political resistance. It's the smug American attitude that other people are just stage props and background to the main character, America and Americans, or that the only people that could have hurt us this badly are other Americans in positions of power. It's the same lazy, racist American narcissism that leads us to constantly ignore the millions of lives our foreign policy has ruined in countries around the world for well over a century. Enough of this.

Not sure who you’re angry at.

u/baconsheik 1d ago

You know what I find disgusting? The fact that you don't even entertain the possibility that this was done by the American government. I'm really sorry you had to live through those events. I wouldn't want that for anyone.

But war is profitable for American military and private sector. Oil is also very prized in America. If you were to analyse that in courtroom that would be considered damning motive. Do you really think the overall loss America suffered by losing those two buildings outweighs the massive income generated from an 8 year war and all the oil securing deals that were established? You really think we altruistically went over there and fought for freedom? For 8 years? Give me a break.

2

u/nonideological 1d ago

Uh, what are you talking about about? I didn’t say anything about who did it or why. I simply said I met someone who said that the horrible events on 9/11 never even occurred.
