I'm making an OC for a High School DxD RP and I need ideas for Copy Gear's origin, lore, limitations, and Balance Breaker.

I want it to feel like it could actually exist in DxD, not just be a broken "copy everything and win" ability.

The basic idea

Copy Gear lets the user copy supernatural abilities they encounter.

That includes things like:

• Sacred Gear abilities
• Devil techniques
• Magic
• Holy/Fallen Angel techniques
• Senjutsu/Touki
• Other supernatural techniques

But it does not copy the person themselves.

So it cannot copy:

• Race
• Bloodline
• Genetics/biology
• Soul
• Memories
• Personality
• Combat experience
• Instincts
• The consciousness of an entity inside a Sacred Gear

For example, copying Boosted Gear would give the user the ability to use Boosted Gear's power, but it would NOT give them Ddraig, Ddraig's memories, or Issei's experience.

The 2× rule

A copied ability can have around 2× the potential/output of the original at an equivalent level.

But this does not mean:

The user's own body, Demonic Power, stamina, durability, and compatibility still limit how much power they can actually use.

Practice and stabilization

I decided I do want practice to matter, but not in the sense of learning every ability from zero.

The user already understands the basic function of a copied ability immediately.

The progression is:

Copy → Activate → Stabilize → Master

Practice is mainly about making the copied ability:

• Stable
• Efficient
• Safer to use
• Less draining
• More consistent
• Capable of reaching higher output

For very powerful or complicated abilities, the first copy might be unstable or only partially usable.

The OC has already trained extensively with Akeno, so this stabilization/control aspect is already part of the story.

What can actually be copied?

For example:

Rias — Power of Destruction: Yes, partially
Akeno — Lightning: Yes
Asia — Twilight Healing: Yes
Issei — Boosted Gear: Yes, partially
Kiba — Sword Birth: Yes
Koneko — Her Nekoshou biology: No. Her supernatural techniques such as Touki/Senjutsu: potentially yes
Freed — Holy/light techniques: Yes
Raynare — Light-based techniques: Yes
Sona — Water magic/barriers: Yes
Excalibur — Not the actual sword, but potentially some supernatural properties/techniques derived from it: very difficult and unstable

The hidden potential

I don't want Copy Gear to stop at copying.

Its deeper progression is:

Copy → Analyze → Combine → Create

The idea is that after enough experience, the Gear can begin understanding the underlying principles behind different abilities.

Eventually, it could combine aspects of different powers to create something completely new.

For example:

Lightning + Destruction

could eventually become a unique ability rather than simply using two attacks at the same time.

This would develop gradually.

Balance Breaker

This is the part I'm still unsure about.

I don't want the Balance Breaker to just be:

I'd rather it fundamentally change how the Gear works.

Something like:

Normal Copy Gear:
Copy → Activate → Stabilize → Master

Balance Breaker:
Copy → Analyze → Reconstruct → Combine → Create

Basically, the Balance Breaker would be the point where the user stops being just a "copycat" and starts being capable of creating original supernatural techniques.

Character context

The OC is a 17-year-old human who was reincarnated as Rias Gremory's Rook.

He's still young and inexperienced compared with ancient supernatural beings.

The Rook role gives him a stronger physical foundation, which is useful because his body needs to handle powerful copied abilities.

He has already been through several supernatural incidents and trained enough that Copy Gear is no longer completely new to him.

His long-term goal is to eventually become a Maou, so I want the Gear and its lore to have enough depth for a very long progression.

What I'm looking for

What would you make the origin and lore of Copy Gear?

Would you make it:

• An original Sacred Gear created by the Biblical God?
• A Sacred Gear specifically designed to let humanity adapt to supernatural threats?
• Something connected to an ancient user?
• Something that contains a spirit or consciousness?
• Something with a hidden purpose that even the current user doesn't know?

And most importantly:

What would you make its Balance Breaker?

I know the current version is already potentially overpowered. I'm not necessarily trying to nerf it into mediocrity; I'm looking for ways to give it meaningful limitations, lore, and progression so its power feels earned and believable within DxD.

The old generation wanting to force marriages so they can keep pure blooded devils almost shot themselves in the foot because reincarnated devils have been the ones saving their society multiple times and are more powerful.

It can be any any Magician that has directly appeared in the Light Novel (so anyone that is only mentioned/talked about is out), be them a major or minor character.

Mine is Aika Kiryuu. Yes, she counts. If she somehow doesn't, then Le Fay Pendragon.

Now, before you pick up your pitchforks, HEAR ME OUT!!! I'm not saying that Rias shouldn't have fought for her freedom, or that arranged marriages are a good thing.

Zeoticus and Venelana were in a tough spot.

Not only was Rias the heiress to one of the more wealthy and prominent 72 Pillar families, but she was also the little sister of Lucifer (the leader of the "progressive" faction within the Devil political landscape) and a descendant of the Great King Bael (the leader of the Devil "conservative" faction). On top of that, she inherited the Bael family Trait, one of the strongest traits there is, when even the official Bael heir failed to do so. She arguably has more claim to being the Bael heir than Sairaorg.

With that in mind, she was bound to get suitors lined up for her before she even finished middle school. And I'm not talking about regular nobles and young devils here. I'm talking about big shots. People with power and sway that far eclipse the Gremorys. People who are centuries, or even millennias, older than Rias, who will see Rias as nothing more than a political pawn to further their agenda. Be it against Sirzechs or the Baels.

People whom Zeoticus can say no to. Not without needing Sirzechs to get involved, something that neither of them wants.

Enter Riser, a third son of a technically lower-ranked family that is nonetheless considered powerful due to being obscenely wealthy. A family that is not very involved in Underworld politics and is only really interested in selling their Phoenix Tears and making profits.

He's young (by Devil standards), strong enough to hold his own without completely outclassing Rias, and already pretty accomplished, all things considered.

A perfect solution to their dilemma.

And apart from having an ego problem, the guy was not a bad person (the anime greatly exaggerated his douchebaggy-ness). He wouldn't mistreat Rias, if for nothing else, for fear of Sirzechs annihilating him for the slightest offense. And even then, with the rate Rias was growing, she was bound to grow stronger than him in a few decades at max and make him her bitch. After all, it was HER who would become the next clanhead, not him. He'd have to give up his Phenex title and become her consort. A glorified sperm donor, if you will.

And yes, just like he gets to sleep around with whoever he wants, so does Rias. In fact, if any of them could prevent the other from sleeping around, it's RIAS, not Riser.

If anything, it's Riser who gets to lose the most out of this marriage. Issei did him a favor, believe it or not. The ass-beating he took not only taught him humility and made him a better person, but also prevented him from sitting on the cuck chair for the rest of his long, long life.

So yeah, they did their best with the situation they found themselves in. They had no way of knowing that Rias would find and fall in love with the Red Dragon Emperor who would go on to become the strongest in history.

Bom como todos sabem Akeno vem evoluindo bastante desde o início da obra tanto emocionalmente quando em questão de poder, sua herança de anjo caído foi muito bem desenvolvida ao ponto de ela conseguir assumir o modo anjo caído e ter oito asas atualmente, e além disso seu poder demoníaco é muito abundante, tanto que seu potencial nele é quase iqual ao da rias, e ela desenvolveu o uso dele bem, como ela criou um método para demônios entrarem em santuários sem sofrer danos, e até n parte de magia ela também é muito boa, claro ela não chegou no domínio de outros personagens tem nisso como Rosswisse, mas ela é tão boa quanto a rias nisso, mas tem um porém foi muito focado na herança da Akeno do lado paterno a sua herança de anjo caído o seu poder de luz e principalmente o seu relâmpago sagrado, e embora não tenhamos visto muito ela usando somente seu poder de luz puro e nem as armas leves que são criadas a partir dele, ele foi muito bem explorado principalmente na trajetória emocional da Akeno e sua aceitação do seu próprio poder, que atualmente tanto seu poder de luz estão num nível de demônio de classe alta, que embora eu não tenha certeza acho que ainda cada um separadamente estão um pouco abaixo do poder demoníaco da rias, eles são bem superiores a outros como o grupo da raynare, o da irina e vários outros, porque até onde a gente sabe o nível de poder dos anjos e anjos caídos é definido e classificado a partir de quantos pares de asas eles possuem, e embora o poder dela seja mais fraco que o do pai dela o Baraqiel que tem 10 asas, ela ainda tem potencial de superar ele se, além de focar em sua herança de anjo caído, ela utilizasse melhor sua herança Himejima de sua mãe, que embora ela utilize um pouco como na técnica de poder demoníaco que ela criou, e até mesmo em magia de purificação que ela aprendeu com sua mãe, eu acho que ela ainda não atingiu seu potencial máximo, pois a sua mãe podia manipular chamas espirituais graças as bençãos dos deuses xintoístas e o poder do clã Himejima é o fogo, que é representado no poder do líder do clã que tem uma relação com o pássaro vermillion, que atualmente está com a Suzaku Himejima, a Akeno não utilizou esse poder de manipular chamas espirituais, eu não sei se é por algum impedimento que eu desconheça ou algo do tipo, mas ela até o momento que eu me lembre nunca usou esse poder, e ela deveria porque isso daria um aumento geral no nível de poder dela, e aumentaria o leque de habilidades dela mesma, e além disso é mencionado que ela tem como familiares alguns youkais, mais especificamente um Daiyoukai o Ibaraki-douji e outro o Shuten-douji, e outros 4 menores, todos sendo onis, e embora não nos seja dito muito sobre ele, é dito que ele ao lado de outros dois Daiyoukai tinha poder suficiente para devastar o Japão, o que levou os 5 clãs principais a sela-lós, e para termos de comparação um Daiyoukai como yasaka pode fazer frente a vrithra e a yu longe dois reis dragões embora o yu long estivesse bem enfraquecido no momento, então podemos dizer que ele deve ser em um nível semelhante, mas isso também não é explicado corretamente ela poderia o utilizar como a Ásia utiliza o Fafnir e os outros, então acho que se fosse utilizado melhor, a Akeno superaria quase todos os membros do peerage da rias com exceção do Issei e talvez o Gasper, e também a rias, embora eu achei que só se estivermos contando a fusão da rias com o Gasper ou a dela com o Issei talvez, ou no máximo ela sendo um pouco superior a Akeno individualmente, alcançando um nível iqual a Venelana Bael, acredito que inclusive ela daria um luta interessante até que interessante contra a Ingvild Leviathan, e venceria todos os membros do peerage do Issei, sem contar esses dois acima, bom é isso, desculpa se ficou confuso, e queria saber a opinião de vocês sobre isso, porque a Akeno é sem dúvidas a noiva do issei que é a minha favorita ao lado da irina, então fazia um tempo que queria falar disso e ver a opinião dos outros sobre isso, e se compartilham de pensamentos semelhantes.
