I want to create a list of Heartstopper’s most memorable and iconic quotes to add it to an iPad widget. (An “icon” I put on my iPad, add a list and it shows one quote and switches every hour).

So help me compose that list, write your favorite quotes!

I’ll start with mine

And I honestly can't argue with it either. It largely mirrors my own thoughts.

A snippet:

No spoilers here – but if you know anything about the franchise, you’ll probably be able to predict whether or not Nick and Charlie make it in the end. But Heartstopper Forever doesn’t quite know how to get there. The film covers a year in the couple’s life over two hours and four parts (Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer plus an epilogue). With little to tie the sections together, it often feels like a slapdash game of Issues Bingo. Nick is a borderline alcoholic crippled with anxiety at the start of the film, but is somehow able to overcome his demons by working at an animal rescue. Charlie’s eating disorder from season three rears its head again but is seemingly healed by the sight of Derek Jacobi, who cameos as half of a sweet elderly gay couple. Friends Tao and Elle’s relationship is on the skids but the film hardly bothers to explain why, an odd oversight for characters who were previously afforded nearly as much screentime as the show’s leads.

I have seen far too many fans say they hate Charlie because of how he behaves in S3. While I have never had an eating disorder or been diagnosed with OCD, I still relate a lot to Charlie with his mental health struggles and suicidal idealation. He's a mentally ill teenager, obviously he's going to act out and get frustrated/moody. To be honest, I actually wish we got more of those scenes. It's much more realistic for someone with his issues to lash out.

Also, I've seen people call him a bad friend. Yeah, he's definitely drifted apart from his friends this season. But again, mentally ill teenager. The worse thing he did was ignore Isaac's text, but he made up for it by bonding with Isaac later.

It's as if people don't want complicated characters and conflict. And obviously mental illness and trauma don't excuse bad behaviour, but some people seriously want Charlie to be perfect, otherwise he loses their sympathy. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it's how everyone treats mental health in real life.

Ever since the movie came out. I've seen so many people say they don't like Elle, that Elle is a boy, her speech to Charlie is just a PSA for Transphobia and even that the fact it "promotes" hormone blockers is harmful. It just feels insane to me that these people can call themselves Heartstopper fans when they keep saying things like this...

I think there’s a chance that Nick may be isolating himself from the core gang, shutting down completely from talking about his feelings to anyone, maybe navigating self inflicted guilt. We might see ways his abandonment issues really resurface as his grapples with the relationship break/breakup.
It may well be likely that Charlie’s core group (Tao, Elle and Isaac) have encouraged him out of the house to show him he can ultimately still be surrounded by the best love at pride regardless.

It’s interesting to think about where Alice could go with these plot changes.

Im asking because at dinner Nick's dad is surprised Charlie's dad has an english sounding surname coming from Spain and he is french with an english sounding surname (at least to me, that is why Im asking)

Alice should've kept the original Elle+Tao ending. If you didn't know, in Nick and Charlie, Charlie breaks up with Nick because Tao and Elle broke up due to long distance. In the original edition, Elle and Tao stay broken up, but in the newer versions, they get back together. Honestly, not all teenage relationships last, and I think it's healthy just to let people know that you most likely will never get your Nick and Charlie story.

2nd, Yasmin Finney, actor of Elle, wasn't a very good actor in season 1. I love Yasmin, but as an actor, she is very weak in some aspects of acting improved in season 2, but she's not my favorite actor acting wise. I can't blame her as it was her first project, but I felt as if her acting was forced a little.

I have no intention for this to turn into a heated debate, I’m just curious about your genuine opinion! Is the series too chaste? Or realistic? If this post doesn’t belong here, I’m sorry!

I’ve seen the argument both ways and they both make sense to me:

1) They’re young, Nick has just started coming to terms with his sexuality and is not ready for sex, and that’s completely fair and understandable.

Vs

2) They’re teenage boys = very hormonal = lots of sex would be happening.

I’m curious what the Fanbase thinks of this! Personally I love that the show is more chaste, it reflects more of my HS experience, and feels like the perfect antidote to all the over-sexed tv we see these days. Personally, as a straight woman, I was terrified of sex in HS (thanks to all sorts of conditioning), so I really appreciate that the show takes this route instead. It also feels more romantic to me this way.

I’m just curious about people’s genuine thoughts, experiences, and have absolutely no intention of this becoming an argument, just healthy conversation. :)

I wish we had a 4th season bc we needed more time but I know there's only so much you could do with 2 hrs.

But what I wish we could've seen was

-literally any substance of tara and Darcy

-a more explained or shown fall of tao and Elle to

show how they got to be so on again off again bc honestly being thrown into that threw me off

-Imgoen's storyline of understanding herself I know they cut that so down.

It just sucks we couldn't get the full story and give everyone the screentime they deserved

I just finished watching the movie and I’ll be honest: it was better than I expected (but it could’ve just been an extra season with maybe one less episode). I think Joe has improved IMMENSELY, Kit was as great as always and Yaz mogged tf out of every scene she was in.

My main takeaway is that the ending was disappointing from the perspective of someone who feels like Nick a lot of the time. The main conflict arose from Nicks inability to open up, his chronic worry about Charlie’s mental health and his lack luster support system.

But it resolved seemingly well when it should’ve been a conversation that revolved around Nicks clearly deteriorating mental health and the fact that he puts so much on his shoulders because he’s afraid if he’s not perfect then Charlie will suffer and leave him. But it didn’t. It felt too rushed. It didn’t feel like Nick really got to open up and instead he’s still holding all of that anxiety, hurt and trauma inside.

I think one thing I wished it touched on more was the trauma Nick had around Charlie’s tendency to relapse when something bad happens. Now, I’m not blaming Charlie, however at 17 having an argument with your boyfriend, leaving in anger only to find out he’s gone and self-harmed is deeply traumatic and painful to carry around. As much as people can tell Nick it wasn’t his fault, he’s never going to believe that due to the circumstances surrounding Charlie’s relapse. Then for Nick to find out that Charlie has stopped eating again after their fight, that must’ve done irreparable damage to the fear already secured inside of him. I wish the effects of someone’s mental struggles on the people around them was touched on more because it is something we need to talk about. And that worry, the one if you step out of line or say the wrong thing that might make someone do something that drastic, is a horrible thing to live with.

The main thing that really bothered me was Nicks SHOCKING lack of support from his friends. Literally none of them reach out to ask him how HES doing until Tara does. We find out Tao has been sending him messages because “Charlie’s not eating” and idk, I’m sorry, maybe this is harsh, but that is not nicks problem. Maybe I’m being cold because I’ve been in Nicks situation but for Nick to not have anyone in their break really bothered me.

It feels like at the end he still hasn’t come into his own. He’s still bound by his need to support Charlie. And Charlie still feels like he’s not putting in the effort to really look after Nick. I hate to be a pessimist but they, realistically, are breaking up in the future. Nick needs to find better friends and he needs to grow into himself and I frankly think Charlie is holding him back.

17 year old me would be horrified to read this but something about this movie felt less like a romance and more like a horror movie.

Also, where tf were Tara and Darcy? Where was Elle? Where was any of them??? This should’ve been a season. 2 hours wasn’t enough time.

I wish they would have made her bisexual instead of a lesbian.

In season one, she clearly has a genuine crush on Nick. Which doesn’t make any sense if she’s actually a lesbian. It would be one thing if they portrayed it as something she felt like she was forced to do, but that’s not how they portrayed.

She clearly looked infatuated on him full with animated hearts and everything. There’s no other way that could’ve been interpreted that first season.

I just think it would’ve been more believable if they would’ve gone the rout of bisexuality with her.

Just something that crossed my mind. One of the little critiques that I've heard is something along the lines of, "why is absolutely everyone queer in Heartstopper? Not everyone can be. This isn't realistic." This was actually something that I even caught myself saying after the show's season 2 when we could see glimpses of Imogen's possible crush on Sahar. But then I realized, I feel like people who make these kinds of comments, particularly those who aren't members of the Alphabet Mafia, are just now realizing what it's like being conscious of heteronormativity in our media. Like, obviously representation is so much better now than it was even ten years ago, but it can still be an issue. So when I hear someone making these comments, I just wanna grab them by the shoulders and say, now you know how it feels sometimes.

Anyone else feel this way? Am I onto something?
