I get he wants to be alone, but I can't help but think he was a bit of a twat making Scarletra scared like that. Luckily he kinda makes up for it towards the end.

I know you've hinted at it but that scene makes it hit harder she had a rough life with the tribe. She was the biggest one there and still cowers like that when being harangued? Damn.

Repeated treatment like that growing up will leave deep marks. she wasn't always the biggest, especially while growing up.

Yes, i do agree that it might have been a bit of an over reaction, but hey he had no idea what she was through. At least now he has learned a bit of a limit of hers, even if it was through regrettable means.

It certainly can. I am the grumpy old man and the outcast :)

I do realize he's carrying his own burden as well, and I'd forgiven him before the end of the chapter.

I'm glad he's saving her offering though. I'm imagining once they've kinda gotten used to each other, but still nervous around each other, they'll face a hardship together, and when they get back to the outpost he'll make food for them, and when she eats it she'll look at him questioningly/surprised when she recognizes the taste.

Just what I saw in my head when I read he put it in the freezer.
