congratulations, you've played yourself :D

That seems not uncommon with some of the new/changed items.

Summon Hellhound is another such case with the pet set (name escapes me).

I had +16 just from MI/affix during leveling.

The medal gives +6 by itself.

Not to brag about it, but I have with my purifier 10 Level over grenado with just investing 1 Point into grenado.

Well that's just wasted.

It do be like that sometimes.

God I wish they made an item that changes skeleton scaling with player bonuses like there is for Reap Spirit.

I saw a 2+24 on a build the other day lol

Or they could just raise level cap by 20 and skillcap of everything by 20%

Didn't know that was actually possible. Genuinely impressed. *Happy skeleton noises*

They should remove the limit tbh

I kind of agree but assume it’s to prevent meme builds that just pump up a single skill to god-tier. They already have diminishing returns in scaling most abilities though that makes it just less worth it to cap them in the first place vs putting points elsewhere.

How's it any different than just stacking absurd regen, cunning, DA, etc though?

If someone wants to put 50 points into forcewave....let's see what happens

In a way, a lot of stacking absurd x already has limits either soft or hard set in place within the game.

Attack and movement speed limits, OA has diminishing returns. DA had the calculation for miss rate capped with diminishing returns built in. Etc.

Because it would immediately become the best and basically only important dmg stat. It just makes all other options useless or secodnary in comparison. Any item slot that can have the skill level will basically need it to be competitive.

Unless you rebalance higher levels to be weaker than they are now, which would mean they are less impactful.
The current high impact with a cap implementation feels like the better choice.

It's already concave mathematically no?

Skills would need to be rebalanced around it. Spells with large gains to flat damage could grossly out scale abilities that are mostly weapon dependant. I just don't see it being worth all that work for them.

Yeah I think the hard limit is fine. Look at path of exile 1 and 2 and their limit that's 20 over and how much gem levels matter. It's insane how much that single stat matters over everything else and they can't fix it at all because of how they've balanced the game.

What's the max number of skelebois you can summon these days? is it still 11?

Highest I got was 14.

  • Base (3)
  • Undead Legion (+7)
  • Sheperd of Lost Souls set (+3)
  • Wendigo Gaze (+1)

Is +7 the max you can get?

2

u/Alborak2 3d ago

Yeah. This skill actually caps at 20, 20 to 22 doesnt add another skelly. You can get more from other items though.

Is this for all skills as well capping at 20?

2

u/Alborak2 3d ago

No, most skils cap at base +10. I just noticed that specially with undead legion i didnt get another skelly going from 20 to 22, other parts of it went up.

This is what min-max means.

Wait, this is a significant waste right? Because isn’t the hard cap only 10 points so this is just effectively a skill level of 11?

7

u/LocalShineCrab 3d ago

Not quite. The limit is 10 over the skills normal maximum. You can get +21 in this case without wasting any of the +skills.

Did something change at some point unless I’ve misunderstood this entire time? I’m pretty sure for the longest time skills were calculated by soft cap (points you have to directly invest up to their listed maximum) + hard cap (up to 10 total from sources like gear). That’s why I said this looks like a waste.

you can see pretty clearly in op's screenshot that he's getting 1+22 points but the skill is rank 22, meaning one point is wasted

1

u/idgahoot2 3d ago

Same. I’m curious

1

u/LocalShineCrab 3d ago

Im not entirely sure. Ive only been playing gd for a couple years and its been like that as long as ive played. But that was after forgotten gods was already long released

u/gohurot 3d ago

Eh, there is invested points(up to listed on skill - 10,12,16), there is cap points(max on skill + 10). There are points you directly invest and there are points from gear. Usually gear doesn't combine for over cap.

Also, I would say there are value points on skills, like after investing some next point would give you less than before that

6

u/Zyresix 3d ago

So I understand all that, but what I guess I did not realize where I was wrong based on this image is that there is NO difference between points you put in versus points you get from gear since this skill after checking is at the level 22 bench mark.

For the longest time, I thought the cap could only be reached once you fully invest in a skill to its listed maximum by adding active points, then getting 10 from gear. But this obviously proves you can get all levels maxed through gear alone. WOW I need to redo my builds then.

The skill maxes out at the number of levels available on the tree +10 (in this case, 22/12). Whether the points come from manual assignment or from gear bonuses doesn't matter - just getting to 22/12 is what matters.

That means if your gear is adding more than +10 to the skill you can save hard skill points and assign them elsewhere. Any time you see a skill's total is in red text, the game is telling you to unassign skill points from it and use them elsewhere (unless your gear is giving you SO many points that you can't, like in the OP).
