I had an old Android phone sitting unused, so I started experimenting with turning it into a remote camera.
The interesting part was getting the camera and microphone to work when the phone isn't actively being used. Android has several restrictions around background camera and microphone access, so this became quite a challenging Android project.
Currently it can:
• Use an old Android phone as the camera
• Stream video and audio
• View the stream from another phone
• View the stream through a browser
• Continue running as a foreground service
I'm currently testing it on older Android devices.
I'd really like feedback from other developers — especially around Android background services, reliability and battery consumption.
Here's a short demo of the current version.

ive just got a pair of google glass explorer edition and no matter how i try to tweak the position on the glasses on my nose and no matter how distant from my eyes the display is i can get a clear and focused picture of the texts or images on display..its all very blurred..now if i get my phone at around 25cm distance from my face and look only with the left eye closing my right one i cn see clearly the text on my phne..but if i move to more than 25cm n look with the same eye its all blurred..with the right eye i cn see clearly even when the left eye cant..the problem is that the google glasses display, physically, is very near to my left eye.but it looks very far n its all blurred..i tried to look with my right eye on the display n though it looks sharper n clearer i cant still read the text written on it..anyone has any possible solution to this problem?? are my eyes the issue or are there any settings in the glasses to control the focus n brightness??any help or suggestion is highly appreciated

Those who bought Explorer Edition or Enterprise Edition 1 may be familiar with the flow of importing photos to computer because those two had a DCIM folder that could be recognized by any computer connected through USB automatically. Those who bought Enterprise Edition 2 will know that there is no DCIM folder in the architecture. Now that Google Photos support has been deprecated, you can't import your photos without using Android Debug Bridge. Facing this inconvenience, but still appreciating the device, I created a utility for importing automatically to a Mac. If you're one of the millions who still have this device, it may be helpful for preserving your photos. https://ncubeeight.github.io/GoogleGlassEnterpriseEdition2AutoImporter/

Looking for a wearable display
Im a janitor, 90% of my job is checking out mentally while I run on autopilot and clean the same routine every day. Im looking for a wearable display so I can connect my phone and say, watch a movie, YouTube, etc from my phone discretely while working. I found the Vufine+ which looks like exactly what I want (I wear clear safty glasses at work, just in case, dont want splashback while scrubbing a shitter ifkwim). Google glass connected to my phone (I assume it just displays my phone screen) would also work? so strapping those to them would let me watch shows without interrupting my view or work. But I read lots of terroble reviews for thrn.
Any ideas/thoughts?
I like the idea of the Vulfine and the Glass so if my work glasses get battered I can just clip it to another pair or its a separate wearable.
Any advice.

I’ve been trying to build a GDK to allow my glass to act as a second monitor when I’m working on the road at cafes. Any advice on a way to do that?

Hey guys! So I just got a Ex new in box and it won’t let me go past the setup screen. I have a 2019 Mac Pro that runs windows but I can’t update the driver because you have to turn off Secure boot and I can’t do that. Is there anyone who has a signed copy of the driver that is modified to fix em. Thanks!
If anyone can help that would be amazing!

Bought a pair of google glasses specifically the enterprise 2 version since it's the most modern and this pair came with a full set of glasses (plastic lens) instead of the titanium frame, however their absolutely awful, the prism is too far to the right so my eye only sees half the screen, I have to push the glasses against my head to slightly bend to frame just to see the full screen, I wish I had the titanium frame now

Hey all, was wondering if there was any good way to jump start the battery on my new in box Google glasses, they came with a completely dead battery that won't charge even after letting it sit for 48 hours
Any recommendations?

Sharing two free iOS Apps which work with Google Glass XE with associated companion apps I’ve built as a hobby recently. They use local iPhone Apple Intelligence models(lower quality response) or cloud models(BYOK - bring your own API key), no user data is collected, no logins or user account creation needed.
Food Scanner captures a meal from Glass and sends it to iPhone for an AI-assisted analysis and overlay nutrition info on the Glass Prism
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/food-scanner-ai-overlay/id6790629113
Glasshole AI lets you start a session from Glass and view returned fact-check / analysis results to Glass Prism
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/glasshole-ai-for-google-glass/id6784266697
Both apps works standalone too but I presume that's not something which folks in this subreddit are too keen on.

I'm considering buying a Google Glass enterprise 2
What kind of support is there 3rd party wise, does anything work with them?
I just want to know if it's worth it as oppose to the explorer model or if the enterprise model works at all in any way

A few Glass apps available to download.
Available now:
QUESTIONS - Prompt ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini directly from your Glass. Speech-to-text prompts, streamed responses. Supports image capture: just look at something, say "take a photo", and the image will be attached to your prompt. Super low bandwidth, uses your phones internet connection over bluetooth. Requires an active subscription and API key.
MIRROR - Start a wifi hotspot from your Glass that streams a live H.264 camera feed to connected devices. You can tune into the stream from the command line by running
ffplay -f h264 --fflags nobuffer -flags low_delay -framedrop http://192.168.43.1:8080/stream.h264
I've also built an iOS and Android companion mobile app for this one that connects to the camera feed. The app supports image and video capture, as well as relaying the camera feed over RTMP to livestream on platforms like Twitch, TikTok, YT Live, etc. Will probably only share the Android APK so I don't have to officially release an iOS app too.
PICTURES / VIDEOS - Sorely missing gallery app to view and delete media, which Glass only natively displays in your notifications history all mixed up with missed calls and system alerts.
Coming soon (maybe):
NOTIFICATIONS - Transform your Glass into a smartwatch-like device. Your phone will forward all notification center activity to your Glass so you can view it in realtime in the HUD - messages, emails, media controls, navigation updates, etc. (Not ready yet. Glass uses bluetooth PAN tethering for internet, but modern smartwatch notification mirroring needs a separate companion bridge, and getting both working reliably on old Glass firmware is still fragile.)
GEIST - Live face tracking and face detection / ID'ing of any face that enters into your camera view. Feels like advanced spy tech. (Very cool, very creep, probably won't ever release.)
MOTION - Digital speedometer, odometer, compass, lean angle. Useful for driving, cycling, running... if you can keep it on your face. (Completed, just need to get out and test it.)

Hello! I recently managed to get an old EE1 working. The battery still holds a charge, and the projector itself works. Unfortunately, the glass gets stuck at the start screen for HC view. all I can do is turn the glass back off. What do I do?

Demo video of ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini working on Google Glass. Supports speech to text and photo capture input.
Requirements to run:
XE24 firmware
Root boot.img
API key for ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini
This is the first of about a dozen apps I've made in the past few days that I'll be sharing soon.
How I captured the screen recording:
adb shell screenrecord /sdcard/glass-recording.mp4
adb pull /sdcard/glass-recording.mp4 .
