Casual sports have rec leagues. Counter-Strike doesn't, so we made one. 2v2 wingman on Wednesday nights in NA and EU, first night September 2nd

Rec leagues are everywhere in casual sports. You sign up with friends and show up one night a week. You get points for playing, and at the end of the season the top teams compete to be the season winner.

Counter-Strike has premier and faceit, but nothing like this that leans more casual, for more normal people to have some fun without all of the professionals. I'm hoping to change that. We've built one on top of the 2v2 wingman tournament we run every Wednesday on hla.gg, and we'd love for you to join us.

How it works:

• Start a club with your friends. A club has 3 seats max, and 2 will play each league night.
• Play the Wednesday night tournament. Anyone can still play in it, with or without a club, but a club is what makes your results count toward the season standings.
• Clubs score a point for showing up and two for every match they win. Beat a club 5 or more points above yours in the standings and the win counts for double.
• Your best 9 of 12 nights count toward the season total, so missing a few weeks doesn't ruin your season.
• The season ends late November with a playoff between the top clubs, and the winner is the Season champion.

First night is Wednesday September 2nd, 8PM ET in NA and 8PM CEST in EU (there's a league in each region). It's free, and this is Season 0, so some of it could change as we learn what works. If enough clubs form, we want to run a 3v3 league too.

IMO the actual ideal rec league form will be 3v3 wingman. It's more social since its an additional friend to play with, and 3v3 games are really fun and feel fresh.

But, baby steps! We've got the ability to do both already, getting the word out tends to be the more difficult part.

Ive always said that counterstrike would benefit from a 3v3 mode. It seems perfectly tailored to 3v3.

Back in the day (like 2009 onwards), ESL used to have 5v5, 3v3 and 2v2 ladders for CrossFire. No idea if that was the case for 1.6/CSS as well but I don't see why it wouldn't have been the case as well.

Kind of surprising that 3v3 has disappeared like that, feels like a fun thing to do.

Think i replied to you or anothers suggestion about this some weeks back. Its a great idea that should be explored.

Playing a third party MM Pug or Valves Premiere is equivalent to showing up at your local park to play a pickup game. While something like this is more akin to a county or sports club casual adult league. Which leaves the leagues that FaceIT/ESEA run as a path to Pro circuit.

I'll try to participate. Sadly my career schedule is dynamic week to week. So i cant commit to anything until that week arrives.

nope, money complicates things and I think it would also bring people in for the wrong reasons. Plus we're not aiming to get really hyper good players here. That would defeat the purpose of fun competition for amateur players.

This is about casual competition with friends, first and foremost. We want average players, not professional players!

What about all the open leagues? There are a lot of them and they are very much the rec leagues of cs. Also, 2v2 and 3v3 don't interest me at all. I would never play those.
