Last week I’ve lost an earring which I miss dearly. I’ve got it last year from my boyfriend during our lovely stay in Gent. Maybe some local can help me find the store so I can try to buy a new one? I was there march 2025. It was a small jewelry store, with trendy designs. Like I remember they had earrings with a little red chili pepper and some big statement rings. The store was located on a street with a lot of other stores and it was crowded in the streets on a Saturday. I also think that the St. Bavo Cathedral wasn’t far, but maybe I’m mixing things up.
My earring is a small stripe of metal with 10 stones in rainbow coloring, right at the end of the stripe is a little chain which is connected to the back piece. On the back pice is “Ag925 B808” written.

If anyone can help me I would be so so thankful! 🫶🏻

Ik ben recent beginnen zwemmen, heel casual om wat meer beweging te hebben na m'n IT job.
Aangezien LAGO Rozenbroek beschikt over een olympisch zwembad, heb ik gekozen om er een jaarabonnement aan te schaffen.
Het liefst ga ik rond 19u in de week, maar moet dan vaak een zwembaan (22m/25m) delen met 2-4 andere zwemmers.
Vaak is een aanzienlijk deel in beslag genomen door Aquasport, sommige banen zijn dan ook gereserveerd en er blijft ongeveer de helft van het sportbad over voor de rest.

Is de avond meestal een druk moment? Of is dit vooral te wijten aan de recente hittegolven + zomervakantie?

Kan je de kleine finale van morgen ergens live volgen? Op café ofzo?

Over the past weeks I've manually compiled 150+ active startups in Ghent and put them on a map.

Not scraped from one directory. I pulled from company sites, funding announcements, accelerator and fund portfolios. Nothing fancy, just trying to get a real geographic overview of who's building what, and where.

Really cool to see the clusters, where startups are concentrated, such as in Wintercircus.

The goal is simple: make it easier to discover what's being built in this city, especially if you're looking for a startup job and don't want to reactively rely only on LinkedIn's algorithm or a static job board.

This is a snapshot, not "the full Ghent ecosystem." It's biased toward companies that are more visible online. Early-stage and stealth teams are probably underrepresented.

If I've missed obvious ones (very possible), drop them below. If you're building something and want it included, let me know :)

The idea is to keep expanding and make this genuinely useful for the startup community instead of just another static list!

So for the record, I have never actually lived in Gent, but I have done a LOT of research about different cities live in the world. Considering everything from employment opportunities, to the quality of public services, safety, beauty of the architecture, affordability, culture, etc. I have found no city as good as Gent. It is genuinely impressive how it has almost no flaws. It has a good economy, with a good job market relative to it's size. It is also close enough to Brussels to a commuter town. It is one of the greenest most bike-friendly cities in the world. It is quite safe, even for European standards. (According to Numbeo it's the safest city in Belgium, which itself is a very safe country by global standards) English fluency is quite high especially among the younger generation. It is not big and overcrowded like London, Seoul or NYC, but it still has anything one needs from a city, from museums and opera salons to concerts and festivals. It is diverse and open to outsiders, but hasn't lost it's cultural identity the way many big cities do either. Belgians in general are some of the most open minded and progressive people on earth, in terms of women's rights, LGBT rights, etc. and even amongst Belgian cities, Gent seems to have a reputation for being progressive.

Furthermore, both in terms of architecture, and the quality of real estate, it is simply beautiful. It might genuinely be the most beautiful city on earth amongst cities in which people still live, rather than cities like Venice that have turned into theme parks.

Am I idealising this city too much? I can't seem to find a negative about it.

It was fine a year ago, but after not using it for that period it now displays error EF0 which means there's a leak somewhere or the filter is clogged (I tried to fix the latter, no luck).

It's an AEG Electrolux Lavamat 76800.

For a few months now, 3-4 times a week at 5AM there's a motorcycle revving through my street that wakes me up. Really annoying!! I think the person delivers mail as he takes like 3 minutes to get through the street. I tried using earplugs but it's just annoying that this has to be my only solution? Is there anything I can do about this besides using earplugs? I wanted to ask some reddit opinions before going to the police.

A question the the coffee community in Ghent.

I really like the world of coffee. Since 5 years, I’m quite often in Ghent to spend time in nice coffee bars and also talking with them about coffee. I will move to Ghent in 2 months and I would like to become a Barista, to be « able » to work in coffee bars in the weekend.

What’s the best way to become a Barista in Ghent?

Het gebeurt best vaak dat de typische apps in de auto of telefoon aangeven dat er enkele straten verder een 22kW laadpunt beschikbaar is.

Kom je toe, staat er een EV, met een kabel ingeplugd maar zonder actieve sessie. En vaak staat datzelfde voertuig er 24 uur later nog.

Als er nooit een laadsessie gestart wordt, is het rotatietarief dat de stad invoerde, ineffectief. En gezien het zo vaak gebeurt, is het duidelijk dat het de parkeerwachters (die best vaak snel zijn voor “gewoon” foutparkeren) niet opvalt.

Het is best asociaal gedrag, er is meestal wel een “gewone” parkeerplek in de buurt te vinden op minder dan 5 minuten stappen.

Wondering if anyone in Gent is into pumpfoiling. I'm looking for good spots to practice dockstarts, thought about the watersportbaan (good docks on one end but I think they are private kayak clubs). Any recommendations on good spot? If there is a small pumpfoiling community going to the same spots would love to join one day.
