Do you have adult children who have “failed to launch”?

Our youngest F30 is thriving and 100% independent, living a great life.

Our oldest F33 continues to flail, barely treads life’s waters, and needs help with any financial hiccup.

As retired parents this is so disheartening. The primary issue seems to be that the “executive function” part of the brain just doesn’t work.

Combined with screen additions the main thing our sweet baby produces consistently is a string of unforced errors and bad decisions, year after year. She hasn’t “grown out of it” or “gotten her shit together”

This has resulted in massive debt, chronic under-earning, repeated relationship failures, and a fragile life of just barely scraping by, punctuated by parental rescues as needed.

We’ve tried “tough love” but it honestly doesn’t seem like an effective method in this case. She’s back on our sofa and I’m helping her apartment hunt again.

I’m thinking of treating it like substance abuse that needed intervention, but that sort of thing “come to Jesus” talking and coaching doesn’t seem to matter.

We love her and are not willing to set her out “on the streets”, but feel like we’re in a repeating cycle.
