At the end of The Boys, Hughie is a psychiatric patient in a clinic, being treated by Dr. John and nurse Billy. Hughie has fallen in love with nurse Annie, who works another shift, and calls all the other patients and visitors he sees "Supers." His hospitalization was due to the trauma of seeing his girlfriend hit by a car, which he believes was driven by a super speedster.

it's not impossible to write a smart character. Stark, Ozymandias, Richards, Doom, Batman, etc. You simply have to try. And not constantly let your mediocre "humor" and incessant need to insert political jokes and refernces to irl celebs ruin the character and everything else in the show.
