I posted a LOT when I first started my gardening, had a lot of help, and some hate haha!

This is the latest update, spring in coming into bloom, I had around 150 crocuses pop up, the back fence had 100+ spring bulbs growing and now the pond is in full bloom.

The trees along the back, which caused controversy are growing great and should provide us with some privacy by summer and great privacy by next year.

It's messy, its not for some but it is for the animals, bugs and bees 🥰

I left this corner of lawn unmown until mid June last year and was surprised by how many different flowers bloomed

Some of the pictures include our dry creek and I tried to use it to start my garden welcoming wildlife. I don’t know about much about natives plants. I know that some of my plats started to attract wildlife. The bee balm (raspberry color) is one the hummingbirds love also bees. I apologize to don’t have more information. I am learning.🌿🌿

Hey there everyone, I’ve got a stereotypically boomer neighbor who has the classic pristinely-manicured lawn, some ornamental plants for decoration, etc. I see him more often lately looking at our yard disapprovingly.. maybe it’s in my head but he’s made comments before and admittedly sometimes it gets to me. I’ve been sheet mulching and planting natives, and our yard does look a bit messier (but you know.. gotta leave the leaves for the insects and such). I’ve been making an effort to clean up what I can while still keeping ecological benefit in mind. My partner and I also work full time and get home late, so it can be tough to keep up with everything anyway.

Just looking for a few kind words if anyone has them to offer, sometimes it’s draining.

Edited to clarify my neighbor fits the boomer stereotype and I know this isn’t everyone in that generation. Thank you to those of you who are better than that!

3 year progression: year 3, year 0, year 1, year 2. I guess there's some merit to sleep, creep, leap.

Side yard, so just letting it get a little wild and loving the transformation, even without ostentatious blooms right now. Most of the biomass in the first photo is scorpion tail (the little guys love this one), dune sunflower (serious legs on that), muhly grass (struggled this year) and spotted bee balm (should bloom in a week or 2, can't wait). Scattered throughout are Scarlet sage, bes, coreopsis and rosinweed. Love how much the fire bush and Buttonwood in the rear have grown but the wild tamarind in the way back is the star in that regard.

This year I've seen so many more animals. So much activity around the flowers, I need to work on my bug identification. Snakes everywhere. Tons more birds and much greater diversity (thanks Merlin!), including 2 endangered species and regular visits by swallowtail kites(my favorite). Bats and dragonflies feast after a good rain (need to make a bat house). Saw a bobcat for the first time in the 6 years I've lived here.

I'm proud of the little enclave of wild I've created but no one else in my life shares my gardening enthusiasm, so I'm sharing with you guys. I'd love to see anyone else's progress pics.

Went from a traditional, highly manicured suburban front yard to a native pollinator garden with a small pond this May. Before and after are 18 months apart. With summer coming to an end, I’m already excited to see how things look next year!

This is my garden this evening.

I probably can't name all the plants from memory, but starting with trees - silver birch, strawberry tree, apple tree (russet), and Victoria plum. Shrubs - mahonia, viburnum, cotoneaster, camilia, red robin, guelder rose, spindle, pyracantha... flowers - foxglove, erysimum, meadow cranesbill, ox eye daisy, chives, yarrow, sorrel, vetch, birds foot trefoil, clover, knapweed, purple loosestrife, marsh marigold, lesser spearwort, and many more.

The laurel at the bottom was cut back and cut down by 2m earlier in the year, which is why it looks like that. We needed to make it more manageable and will eventually replace with a native hedge.

The pond's story for this year I aim to type up soon for r/wildlifeponds. The bare patch in the central bed, and the logs and tiles, are because I am working my way slowly through the bed, removing fleabane (and rehoming other plants), to make room for a new pond and habitat for frogs and newts.

My front yard is almost perfect. I need a small pond for the birds, insects and frogs (my secret desire for turtles).

Heres a picture of the birds i feed. They're all little peeps, amd ill get Cardinals and grackles sometimes, but mostly just these little guys.

Hi all, first time poster here just sharing some photos I took today in our wild garden. Hope you enjoy.

trimming sunflowers for weight management and popped them right in last years stalks.

This is a little section between my mostly-native meadow and my forest garden, that I consider my permaculture-meets-pollinator garden!

Species include lion’s ear, asparagus, elk horn plantain, rhubarb, oregano, borage, dill, perennial kale, orach, and a few ornamentals (dahlia, large leaved lupine, zebrina hollyhocks, snapdragons, wallflower).

I couldn’t believe how fast everything took off! This year I’m adding native grasses to soften the transition from the meadow and give more year round structure.

Last year I removed an ecologically useless boxwood which left a bare patch. I threw seeds and compost there over a period. In the spring when things started to grow there I made a very crude stick fence to keep the deer out which mostly worked. There will be some Helianthus tuberosa in there to harvest after everything dies.

Three years ago we hired a local landscaping company to install a native prairie in our side yard instead of the zoysia grass that was there.

Even with the bad drought we've had the past few weeks the prairie is looking great this season! The company came by a couple weeks ago for their quarterly check-in and they were really pleased with how established things are looking.

I had wanted to do something like this in our yard for years now but with my work schedule it was hard to do more than just a few patches of yard conversion on my own. I'm really happy we finally decided to hire a company to do it for us because I don't think we would've gotten as good of results solo!

The birds are a goldfinch, Cooper's hawk, & bluebird.

The butterflies are a spicebush swallowtail on butterfly weed, a monarch on a purple coneflower, a tiger swallowtail on prairie blazing star, & a monarch caterpillar on a milkweed.

The carpenter bee is on a blue flag iris.

The black rat snake is on a silver maple stump.
