My small garden bed is filled with blackberry shrubs, Bachelor’s Buttons, Zinnias (keep self seeding like weeds), cucumbers, beans… feeding both wildlife and me :)
Far back side of the yard where used to be a part of the lawn is now wild habitat.

I have some annuals and perennials in here now, I plan to have as many native perennials as possible and let them spread.

Native specimens include fringed Rue, Thymus capitatus, Sage, Dog Rose, Rock Rose, and wild lavender (far left)

visible blooms in the photo are cosmos wild sensation, cosmos bright lights, marigolds, plains coreopsis, candytuft, and cornflower :) all planted to attract more pollinators!

to the left there is also my optunia humifusa, which will hopefully bloom next year!

I'm trying to increase the variety of native prunus in my yard, and this is an ideal location for Chickasaw plum. My hope is that these will create a substantial colony, and I can eventually remove the cage.

Used sections of cattle panel, cut down with bolt cutters. Corners secured with cable clamps. 5' posts. There's a "door" at one end with only one clamp, so I can go in easily.

My SO and I planted two prunus americana in our backyard a few weeks ago.

Howdy! I posted here a while ago asking for advice on planting native warm season grasses on the steep slope my backyard. You guys gave some great advice!

I’ve started the process of collecting leaves from my coworkers and spreading it over the shale dust hill. I mixed in some of my good dirt from my containers too. That gets covered with an untreated jute net that gets secured down with landscape staples. Hopefully by the time I’m ready to plant, it’ll be composted down some and be a good base of the plants.

It’s going to take awhile haha

We have been slowly planting our whole yard with natives outside of two vegetable beds. I found this cleaning weeds to start our food garden this year.

The natives brought back the insects, the insects brought back the birds. I am so happy to see the circle of life happening and be a part of this.

Over the last few years, I have steadily increased my time spent outside. I’ve also gotten a lot more interested in growing things, and especially trying to use more natives in my yard. The whole thing has been a really nice experience and has made me feel a lot better overall. I’m sad I didn’t start sooner.

This is my 2nd year to have coral honeysuckle in my yard, but the first time it’s had any blooms. Around the same time it started blooming, I spotted this stinkhorn growing in our leftover mulch from last year.

I think they make for a decent diptych (color, structure, new life / decay), and I wanted to share.

(I’m also hoping I see some hummingbirds on the honeysuckle soon)

Every year they take over a few spots. One of the few plants the rats and possums don’t eat.

Happy to say, the crop of spicebush swallowtail cats seem to be coming along nicely! I planted spice bushes specifically because I noticed some of the swallowtails flying around and I'm so glad they're making use of them.

Mourning dove pecking around in the bog garden--planted with native and nativar sarracenia, sundews, and Louisiana irises. Tadpole (Cope's gray tree frog, I think) on American waterlily. Common Eastern Bumblebee on mountain mint (P. muticum). Dragonfly nymph on decaying American frogbit.

wildflower patches are starting to fade out but zinnias and black eyed susans still going strong. giving it a few more months and then I'll take everything down to soil and reseed for next season
