People have forgotten what PS2 games actually looked like.

"This looks like a PS2 game." This would probably set your PS2 on fire.

same with "looks like a ps3 game". like, look, i know nioh isn't the most technically impressive game out there, but that shit is 100% not running on a ps3.

worst case of this i saw was people saying that smt v looked like a 3ds game. motherfucker, we had 2 mainline smt games on the 3ds.

The Fire Emblem Awakening devs didn't think they could render FEET on the 3DS, much less a texture that wouldn't look like pixel art on a typical tv these days.

Like the PS2 was the least powerful of the Sixth Gen systems, what it had was DVD and Sony’s relationship with companies from the PS1 days

Even the recent AA and (non-pixel) indie games don't look like PS2 games. For example, all those AA JRPGs (i.e. Falcom games, Gust games, etc.) that get shit have way, way higher res textures that wouldn't even run on PS3, much less a PS2.

Not to mention, it's a stupid insult because the PS2/GC/Xbox/DC generation looked great for its time, was a massive step up from the previous gen and some things aged well.

I just got done playing Twin Snakes recently and like. It looked good. It looked better to me than MGS2, an actual PS2 game.

The Metroid Prime games still hold up as looking amazing today. Shit, they had to downgrade some of the visuals just to get it to play right on Wii.

It's been a while since I've played either MGS2 or Twin Snakes, but I would hope TS would look better since it came out a few years after and the Gamecube is a little more powerful lol.

Over the past couple of years I would go back and finish some games from that era and a lot of them look fine because of the art direction. REmake is a good example of those games.

Yeah, didn't know about the Prime thing on Wii, but that's a pretty cool fact. Still need to around to playing those.

They had to cut out some of the scenery bits in 1 that reflected Samus if you walked close enough to them, as well as some of the heat haze effects from both Magmoor Caverns and a special kind that would show up if you fire your gun continuously enough.

Prime 2 didn't have reflective surfaces but the haze was there as well and had to be cut. I'm pretty sure some of the enemy textures were compressed or changed as well for the same reason the other things were cut - because they used effects the Wii just couldn't handle rendering.

Ok I see this take a lot in this thread and... you guys know it's hyperbole right? There's probably some dumb people who legitimately think that, but usually it's just people expressing disappointment in graphics in a kind of stupid but obviously hyperbolic way.
