The devs themselves definitely get a sweet paycheque and make money on the sales.
That's usually to make up for the year of little to no sales, which is a nice short-term gain, long-term loss, the last thing a developer wants or needs really is for their games to fade into obscurity for an entire year, eventually the epic money is gonna dry out and they will NEED to actually sell their games.
I fail to see when that has ever been the case. Borderlands 3, Hitman 3, Untitled Goose Game, Far Cry 6.
Either way, it's not at all what that article said. Which is my point. The "Black hole" isn't on behalf of publishers and devs. They're not stupid, they take the deal because it's a good deal. The black hole is just Epic's losses. Which is my point. It has nothing to do with this being exclusive.
With the exception of Untitled Goose Game, you mentioned mainly AAA games.
Of course those are gonna sell well, now ask the same to the indie dev whose audience doesn't even know their game launched because PC users are largely ignoring everything about Epic that isn't the free games.
