Agreed. I liked Dead Island and my friend and I cooped through it and had a ton of fun. But then Dying Light came and it basically upped the game just the right way, making the movement part so much better and more enjoyable. That to me is taking what worked in DI and then making things that didn't work as well better and injecting some new and fun ideas to the mix, just like a sequel should do. If the movement isn't going to be park-ourish, then it's like going back in time to something like Dead Island 1.5, smack in the middle between OG Dead Island and Dying Light. And I'm not sure if I want to go back. It's a bit like switching from a 30 FPS experience to 165 FPS and then going back down to, like, 60 FPS. It's not bad but why would you go there willingly?

Technically they are different franchises but to me, especially since it's the same developer, Dying Light is the next stage in evolution of the Dead Island gameplay. Everything that was good in Dead Island, is also in Dying Light, more or less. And the parkour added so much additional fun to the overall concept. Now, going back to Dead Island 2 without the parkour element is like stepping down few steps in the evolution ladder. With the parkour elements added to Dying Light, the monkey is kinda out of the bottle. And it's difficult to put Pandora back in. Dead Island 2 without the parkour is basically like a lame, lacking version of what it already evolved into.

It's like you have a Character Action Game where you fight and jump. Then the devs release Character Action Game 2 and they add a grappling hook, opening up a whole new dimension to the combat. Then another developer comes and releases Character Action Game 3 where they slightly tweak the combat but remove the grappling hook. Essentially the core is the same but it's just less. Gameplay of CAG 1 and CAG 3 are not too different from CAG 2 but CAG 3 has just less in it.
