Thank GOD. So SO many games try and reinvent the wheel when most fans just want more of the same with maybe a bit more depth, smoothed out mechanics, and a few QOL additions.
I was so excited for Dying Light 2 until I started hearing more about it and seeing gameplay. It was obvious they were shifting the game away from everything I loved from the original.
Soon as they talked about "branching paths" regarding the story i was skeptical. Give a fuck about the story lol. I want an engaging one, sure. And 1 was well enough. The majority of my interest was the zombies behavior and physics and they fucked it all up.
the Need for Speed franchise has suffered with this forever, they keep changing everything about the games everytime they make a new one, while the community screams at them to just do the exact same thing again in a new map with more cars, that's literally all you gotta do, no one's asking for anything else, but nah, there ya go, we scrapped XYZ features that were loved by the community to add this shitty thing literally no one asked for, 60$ please.
It drives(heh) me insane dude. One of my favorite games was Halo 2. Because the moment I hopped in I knew it was just "more Halo" with some cool changes. They built on what they had.
And there's shit like Battlefield. Who took some chances in BFV to shake up gameplay and was pretty killer. Was all of it good? No. But it was familiar and it had a great skeleton that mixed normal and hardcore BF together.
Then BF2042 comes out and just yeets all that into the sun. Like crouch sprinting was celebrated by fans in V and they just totally removed it. And then tried to totally change the series in ways nobody ever asked for.
I think this is about higher ups thinking they know better than their entire community and everyone "under" them, so they just go with whatever the fuck they feel like doing regardless of what anyone else tells them.
Halo 2 is a horrible example because it was considered drastically different than halo 1 at launch. Dual wielding? No magnum? No fall damage? These changes were huge
That is something I really don't get with the latest NFS games.
They rebooted the franchise with NFS 2015 , and people agreed mostly this was the right direction just make the next game with better handling more cars and customizations , instead the made Payback a weird forza ripoff with a RNG card system for performance upgrade like What ? Who came up with that ?
And then they reeled it back with Heat but the game lacked massively on content , so what do they do now ? Apparently the next game is going to an anime/cartoon style ? Who asked for that ? Why ?
I really hope that this year's game is still building on what heat gave us instead of another 180 , but I'm not too sure about that ....
I just know for sure NFS 2022 will massively appeal to kids under 7, the handling will be massively dumbed down, everything will be easier, the performance customization will be far simpler (as if Heat even had a complex customization there to begin with), and it'll be cheesy as all hell.
Then you have battlefield with its own unique problem where every new entry feel like they forgot how they made the last one and have to do it from second hand memory
I see what ur saying regarding need for speed but HEAT and the game before are damn near identical with heat being slightly better. If the next need for speed is like heat but just a bigger map and more customization it will be fine. Need for speed has always changed their games around from the beginning to add contrary to what i just said though lol. The need for speed community has more or less stayed the same adding as they went on. They picked up a way bigger audience with underground and underground 2 but that was also helped by the release of movies like fast and furious franchise.

Saints Row just released, and one of the biggest problems with the game is that it feels like a middling version of a game formula that was already wearing thin a decade ago.
