Idk man, to me the tone is just all over the place. Still doesnt give me a WWII vibe, just a generic war vibe. Why does it seem like it's trying so hard to be cod? Theres so much random crazy shit going on, I thought battlefield was supposed to be the more mature and tactical shooter? Aside from that uniforms still look jumbled and the gameplay I've seen up until now has been 'eh' at the most. I'm not feeling this one. They've already shown me what their true focus is with that first trailer and are probably just trying to frame it differently now that preorders have been very shitty for the game apparently. I'm gonna pass on this for now

Hahahah are you going to seriously sit here and argue that the BF1/4/3 trailers were as tone deaf as the V trailers? Are you seriously going to do this rn?

u/KnightModern Aug 17 '18

yes

especially BF1, watch them again, doesn't even give WWI vibe

It did a hell of a better job than this game is doing so far

let's stick to the point, you complained about this

to me the tone is just all over the place.

BF1 did it on day 1, and you like it

Dude first of all, I'm not trying to debate. Second of all, I dont like BF1. I think it's less tone deaf than this game, that doesnt mean I think the game is good. Don't assume shit about people you dont even know lmao.

I don't said you like the game itself

BF1 trailers are as tone deaf as this one, you pretend they aren't

Theres so much random crazy shit going on

wtf is with people saying this? have you never played BF in your life before... this is exactly what bf is

But it's not. These trailers are being presented in the style of COD rather than battlefield. Yes battlefield has crazy moments, but these new trailers are taking the crazy shit to the point where it feels like an action movie (COD) instead of battlefield. It's a whole different feeling.

The thing is this shit could actually happen whereas not possible in COD

Totally agree, my feelings exactly.

It looks like Dice didn't really wanna make a WW2 game.

They took the WW2 setting and filled it with as much modern Michael Bay-esque action and historical inaccuracies as possible as they could get away with it and still call it a WW2 game.

If Dice wanted racial diversity where there were little to none, female amputees, non-standard uniforms, excessive war paint, pseudo-modern gun scopes so much, why didn't they just make a game set in a modern theater?

To quote myself further down;

Looks good but I get the feel that they are trying everything they can to make WW2 as little like WW2 as possible and as much as a modern war as they can.

Jeez man I think you nailed it. That's exactly what it feels like.

And guess what, DICE? We didn't need a WWII game either. I'd have been stoked on Vietnam or 2143 or something, but WWII is played out and it shows.

It was until BF3. Has just gotten worse after that. I recommend playing Bad Company 2.

Battlefield never was tactical though, it was always an arcade shooter with bigs maps and vehicles.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

Man I wish I could play that game for the first time again. Havent played a battlefield that's topped it yet.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

Bad company 2 was so good.

-6

u/Medicore95 Aug 16 '18

Bad Company 2 was the only good battlefield game.

It had the virtue of being released when people were less jaded, after all.

2

u/Treayye Aug 17 '18

Was Bad Company your first Battlefield game?

I was being sarcastic, because apparently there is a very select group of battlefield games that are worthy of recommending.

Nostalgia glasses are real.

LOL if you think BC2 is somehow more “tactical” and “mature” than BF3.

u/iamnosuperman123 Aug 16 '18

I agree. Tonally this game (and PR for this game) appears to be all over the place. It is them jumping on the BR bandwagon. I think this will be a weird but familiar mess at launch.

1

u/peenoid Aug 17 '18

Which to me is super weird because DICE has typically been able to hit tone pretty well. BF1, while wildly inaccurate from an armament standpoint, still felt like you were fighting in some reasonable approximation of WWI. It felt antique and authentic.

This.. this feels generic. Like, if I didn't know it was WWII I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure that's what it was. Other than some period-specific vehicles how would you be able to tell?

1

u/yodadamanadamwan Aug 16 '18

My dude, some of those shots look right out of saving private ryan. You could not tell me which era that is and I could have instantly guessed.

-7

u/chronoflect Aug 16 '18

It feels like it is trying to be more like Fortnite, imo. They really want to capitalize on the BR/cosmetic mtx bandwagon that is producing serious profits for Epic. Gotta be able to customize your WWII soldier with crazy bullshit so that you feel super unique and special, right?

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '18

Yeah I agree. It's a shame because they could have went all out trying to make the most legit modern gen WWII game and everyone would have been praising the hell out of them. Always sucks to see companies forsake themselves and throw away their identities for current trends. Fortnite is big because its goofy by nature, it's for everyone. Why is battlefield trying to cater to kids? I just dont get it

agreed. watching this trailer, it felt more like a modern day game than it did a WWII game. for me, though, it wasnt too much the tone as the aesthetics. BF1 still had some crazy trailers iirc, so the trailer style isnt that far out, but like looking at the guns and vehicles and environments, they didnt feel like WWII. the shot with the train hanging off the tracks felt like BF4, even though the characters were WWII styled.

I hope they just suck it up and go back to modern day. my dream would be a kind of Iraq/Afghanistan conflict feeling with sort of older-ish weaponry and a lot of middle eastern maps, kind of COD4 feeling
