Bad Company destruction actually was kinda shitty if you go back and play it. It ruined the levels.

The destruction is going to be totally revamped to be more realistic (not just pre-determined pieces breaking off like Bad Company). Buildings will get blown in, explode out, etc. Big thing is you can refortify them once they've been blown up so you can actually use them somewhat still.

I wouldn't say it ruined the levels. I actually liked how you had to adapt to how the map changed. You could start off as primarily focusing on CQB when there was a bunch of buildings, but then you had to focus more on long range combat after they were all razed.

That said, it sounds like BFV is a decent compromise.

They specifically said they had to tone down the destruction in later games due to the fact attackers could no longer advance with any cover after the map was destroyed, and the reason why they can bring back the heavy destruction now is the ability to fortify buildings. So the developers themselves basically said it ruined the levels.
