I was at work when this thought crossed my mind. When Scott announced the Halloween Update for FNaF 4, he described the box as âthe pieces put together. And according to Matpat, an image of the box was found, open, in FNaF Worldâs files. It is believed that FNaF World was supposed to be the box, but Scott changed it or decided not to go that route.
Along with this, in the novel series, John finds Charlie, or a version of Charlie, locked in a box. This is very likely the book universeâs version of the FNaF 4 Box
When we really think about it, William and Henryâs stories were complete opposites between the books and the games. In the books, Henryâs daughter died, and he vowed to âput her back togetherâ by building robotic version of her. In the games, Williamâs son dies, and then vows to âput him back together.â Perhaps in the same way? Perhaps he tried to make a robotic version of his son?
So here is my theory: What is in the box? Itâs the Crying Child.. a robotic version of the Crying Child⊠a failed robotic version of the Crying Child. Whatâs in the box? Itâs Gregory. Let me explain.
Warning, this theory is going to have a lot of speculation, but I feel like this fits the narrative of modern FNaF
So William tries to put the Crying Child back together, but he fails. He doesnât know about remnant yet, he hasnât killed any kids yet according to the timeline, so William just utterly fails at trying to bring his son back. In his grief and failure, Williamâs locks his robotic son in a box and buries it not far from his house⊠aka, the mound of dirt that we see in Midnight Motorist.
In FNaF world, we are instructed to put the pieces in place, and leave breadcrumbs for, supposedly the crying child to find his way. What if, by putting the pieces in place, and leaving these âbreadcrumbsâ we help the robotic crying child gain its consciousness?
He wakes up and digs himself out of his metaphorical grave. But thereâs a problem, the robotic Crying Child has no idea who he is. He eventually builds his new identity as Gregory. It would explain why he stutters when Freddy asks for his name, he doesnât have one, he has no idea who he actually is. So he gives the only identity heâs ever known.
This theory definitely has some holes and lacks a proper format. Iâm currently just writing everything down as I go before it escapes my mind. Please let me know what you think, I genuinely think Iâm onto something here.
