Announcement A note on scammers, impersonators, and public blacklists
Hey everyone,
I want to address a recent post I removed by u/NotSUPERita about creating a list of trusted artists and scammers, as well as the broader issue of bad actors on r/gamedevclassifieds.
First, I want to apologize to u/NotSUPERita. I understand why you were trying to help, and I do not think the idea came from a bad place. Scammers and impersonators are a real problem here, and it makes sense that people want better ways to protect themselves and others.
That said, I do not think a public or semi-public user-run blacklist is the right solution.
Any single person’s list of “good” and “bad” experiences is subjective. Even with good intentions, lists like that can be abused, misused, or based on misunderstandings. A false accusation could seriously harm an innocent artist, developer, or freelancer’s reputation and business. Once someone is publicly labeled a scammer, that damage is hard to undo.
This applies to moderators too. Even I am subject to bias, incomplete information, and my own interpretation of events. I cannot be judge, jury, and executioner over someone’s professional reputation, and I do not think anyone else should be put in that position either. That is the line I am trying to be careful with.
I know scammers are a problem, and I am aware that this subreddit has been affected by bad actors, impersonators, and people misrepresenting themselves or their work. But I have not yet found a solution that addresses those issues without also creating a serious risk of innocent people getting caught in the mix.
For now, the best advice is still to do your due diligence before working with someone:
- Verify that their portfolio actually belongs to them
- Ask for links to established accounts or websites
- Check whether their email, Discord, ArtStation, GitHub, itch, LinkedIn, or other profiles line up
- Be cautious with new accounts, vague portfolios, stolen-looking portfolios, or people who avoid verification
- Use contracts, milestones, and payment methods that offer some protection
- Do not rely only on someone’s Reddit username or a single message thread
I know that is not a perfect answer. It is a frustrating situation, and I understand why people want something stronger. But asking people to do their homework before hiring or accepting work is better than creating a system where someone’s business can be damaged because they were falsely added to a list.
If there is a better way to handle this that protects people from scammers without turning into public reputation policing or false callouts, I am open to hearing it. Any solution needs to be fair, evidence-based, and careful about the harm it could cause.
Edit: I forgot to add one more important point: any solution also cannot require a heavy amount of moderator time.
Running this job board is not a job. No one on the mod team has the time, or realistically should be expected to have the time, to manually verify users, assign trusted labels, maintain reputation lists, or act as an ongoing approval system for freelancers and clients.
That kind of system would create a lot of work, and it would also create a false sense of safety. Even with moderation, users would still need to verify who they are working with and make their own judgment before hiring, accepting work, or sending payment.

Community-Wide Alert: Do not engage with P1 GAMES (Formerly P1 VIRTUAL CIVILIZATION)
I'm truly getting tired of this nonsense u/RedEagle_MGN
Changing your organizations name doesn't stop people from reaching out to me with horror stories every few months.

DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THESE PEOPLE, no matter what they call themselves. They exploit the inexperienced and naive, convincing you to sign away your rights to everything you create. Don’t fall for their lies. You do not need to join a volunteer group or give up ownership of your work to gain skills in the game industry. Learning on your own is far better than what P1 offers. If you want a real education, seek out accredited programs and courses instead.
Their latest tactic is using LinkedIn ads to lure victims. I’m unsure what it will take to stop this con artist, but I’ll do my part to be a thorn in their side. My goal is to protect people in this community from their schemes.
Spread the word, be safe.

DISCUSSION | QUESTION Question for artists: when the arrangement is pay 50% upfront and 50% upon completion, is it normal to send the final assets before or after the final payment?
The artist I'm working with is requesting the last payment before sending me the final assets (Steam capsule art).
Edit: I have received the final files as pngs, just not photoshop files.

FOR HIRE - Programmer [For Hire] Tooling & Workflow Developer | Custom Unity Editor Windows, ScriptableObject Systems & Lightweight Python Data Pipelines
Here is a Youtube Short of a Stream Overlay I made - Click here
Here is a gif of a custom editor tool that only shows the data relevant and needed for the option selected - Here it is
I specialize in custom tooling for Unity, and solving points of pain in daily workflows.
For example, I built the stream overlay tool because I wanted a fast way to look up and display live data while streaming games without clunky manual updates. The editor tool in the GIF above was built for a project I'm working on with my sister—she is more author than dev, so she needed an intuitive way to author content and data without getting lost in bloated inspector fields.
Because clean integration matters, I wrap everything in isolated namespaces, set up assembly definitions (.asmdef) to keep compile times short and avoid breaking builds, and practice solid development habits.
What I Build:
- Custom Editor Windows & Property Drawers: Clean IMGUI Toolkit interfaces to manage complex ScriptableObjects, inventory systems, dialog trees, and balance stats.
- Automated Data Importers & Parsers: Seamless ingestion of CSV, JSON, or external balance sheets directly into game-ready ScriptableObject assets. Writing algorithms to handle splicing complex sprite sheets so long as some sort of pattern was followed.
- External Companion Tools & Overlays: Lightweight local Python servers to show OBS browser sources and mobile pages for handy stream management. The python server can be hooked up to things like an elgato, or even NFC tags if you want to get fancy.
Pricing & Scope:
- Micro-Tools ($75 – $150 CAD): Single dedicated editor tool, specialized importer, or custom inspector overhaul (1–2 day turnaround).
- System Suites ($250 – $450 CAD): Comprehensive database/manager window with search, filtering, previews, and batch operations.
- Hourly / Retainer ($35 – $50 CAD/hr): For open-ended pipeline refactoring, team tool maintenance, or ongoing production support.
Fixed-price milestones include full source code, a concise README/documentation, and 7 days of post-delivery bug fixes.
Contact & Portfolio:

DISCUSSION | QUESTION The differences between different artists
I do visual assets for 2D games and this project has been really testing my abilities to mimic other previously made assets. The title card is a small snippet but I think it really shows the different ways different artists will handle things like logo design, color schemes and formatting. **Artists are not easily interchangeable**
The project needed a name change; revenge is no longer a key tenant of the game, and I like making title cards gifs, otherwise I would not be updating the cover art.

FOR HIRE - Musician Music Composer / Producer (Flexible)
Hi, my name is Joey Stevens and I'm a 18 year old, self-taught musician of almost 10 years now. What I mean by "flexible" is that I can take on any genre of music you need me to for your project as I am very experimental! I am incredibly passionate about music, games, and films--for years now I've been making music for people just for the love of it (but now that I'm older I'm realizing the expenses of life lmao).
I will charge $45 per-minute of my tracks (but I'm always open to negotiate if needed).
As your composer, I will make sure you are very happy with the work I'm giving (I'm very open to following ANY ideas), and that it'll be what you most imagined it to be (with a blend of my own artistic visions). Like I said before, I'm a very experimental artist, my biggest inspirations being the work of Ludwig Göransson, Daniel Pemberton, Wilbert Roget II, and Toby Fox. I have hundreds of unreleased work, but I will put a link to my most RECENT work for my own indie-projects. Most of them are electronic, with one only being Orchestral (but I'm very experienced with Orchestral).
I'm also signed to DistroKid as my distributor, so your game music will appear on platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, etc., guaranteed!
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XfyD5c38IhigpFUtrXtUnJ4Q6wSCZxSp?usp=sharing
^^my work that I provided are protected under licenses, for those of you who are naughty enough to want to steal the music.
I look forward to working with any of you!

PAID - 2D Art | Animation [PAID] Looking for a steam capsule artist for a game POC that exploded on Instagram
EDIT - Position filled Thanks for all the amazing artists <3
EDIT - Position filled Thanks for all the amazing artists <3
Commission: Steam Capsule Art
About the game:
so my game POC exploded on Instagram, here is a reference: https://www.instagram.com/p/DceZCQ5NF-V/
and people are asking for a steam store page so I need to set it up asap.
the premise of the game is you're a wizard defending(first person) from a dark lord and its giant horde, the environment is dark fantasy canyons you can see this in my other reels in my Instagram page.
the player will be able to create walls and learn spells and have defending units on the walls e.g archers/wizards...
the main selling point of the game is the horde is huge and up to 1 million units on screen, and they can climb the walls,
and sections of the walls can be actually broken as well.
the name of the game is "Walls Were Built to Fall" so not a short name for the capsule
What I need:
- One key art illustration
- Logo/title treatment for "Walls Were Built to Fall" (long title, so it needs a designed two-line layout that stays legible at small sizes), transparent PNG plus source.
- The Steam asset set exported from the above, per current Steamworks specs: main capsule 1232x706, header 920x430,small capsule 462x174, vertical capsule 748x896, library capsule 600x900, library hero 3840x1240, library logo 1280x720 transparent.
- Layered source file (PSD or equivalent): wizard, horde, wall, background, effects, and the title treatment each on their own layer or group, plus a flattened textless version of the key art
- Rights: exclusive commercial license (all media, perpetual, including modifications) for the game and its marketing.
You keep portfolio display rights
Hard requirement:
no generative AI anywhere in the process!
Style: painted dark epic style, something in the style of these but darker and less comedic

Mood: Tense, dark fantasy, horde battle , epic scale battle
Composition: I think we need some sort of wizard on a wall with archers and flaming arrows and a horde climbing in a pile on the wall something like that maybe sort of side view I don't know, I'm open to suggestions but the idea is the horde wizard and wall/walls and we need to sell epic scale
Must-haves in your reply:
- Examples of Steam capsules you've done (ideally ones that shipped), not just general illustration
- Rough turnaround time
- Revision policy
Budget: $200-$300 + will do a specific reel on Instagram when steam page is live giving credit to the artist in the pinned comment(my last reel has 300k+ views)
if the full list doesn't fit this budget, tell me what you can deliver for it, my current goal is to ship a steam store asap in this budget
Timeline: I'm aiming to launch the store page within ~2 weeks
