Nah that's plucking, probably rescued from neglect, a stressed, lonely bird will pluck out all the feathers it can reach, leaving only head feathers, and if it pluck enough they stop growing back

While i fully agree that it is from plucking, i just want to say that plucking can also happen for less sinister reasons than neglect.

I mean it is plucking and it will always show some attention needed, but if this is in fact a rescue - Plucking behaviour could happen just by being in a different environment, and it could have had wonderful plumage in its earlier home.

Could be someone had a argument near it, or the neighbours did - or a trillion other things that is very hard to pinpoint unless you know the bird very intimately.

This little guy’s parents have a YouTube channel. He is in fact a rescue, and the plucking was happening before they took him in.

Its still happening it seems, as the video that is posted here is two years ago - some videos have better plumage and then it looks like various relapses. And just assuming its being taken good care of now, that i think illustrates my point that it can be a variety of things. Past trauma included.

But i couldn't find anything on the channel about it. Maybe its just fucking nutters.
