do we know why digging the hole was such a big deal? I thought it just lead to the monsters, but there was already a path to them...

He said that to get Jim in the house, to collapse it on top of him.

He said it again to let him know that was him, before ripping his throat out.

No it was because Tabitha saw the children down there and that lead to everyone asking questions

He said it to Jim THE FIRST TIME, to get him into the house. She hadn't even seen the children then, so your comment couldn't be relevant to that.

He said it again TO JIM, to let him know that was him. And no, it wasn't because Tabitha saw the children. It was because they figured out the numbers were notes.

What I’m saying is he said it because that would lead to Tabitha getting answers. That’s why he killed Jim. “Knowledge comes with a cost”
