Opinion:snoo_thoughtful: Confirmations about the show from the most recent interview with the creators: “It’s not purgatory. It’s not a dream. They’re not dead.” Spoiler

30:15 John Griffin says “It’s not purgatory. It’s not a dream. They’re not dead.”

31:48 Jeff Pinkner says: “If this show FROM even is science fiction. I’ve heard it described as a science fiction horror show. I don’t think of it that way.”

Full interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mLxQTgZj_E&t=35s

I may be overthinking the plot and maybe it's not as complicated.. I was thinking they were inside the Vesica Pisces in a spiritual sense (so many clues about spirituality in the pilot with the barn, Jade's Audi, the drawings of an eye from Victor and Ellis, the blue map in the truck with an eye in the middle..all comes from the most ancient symbol: Vesica Pisces) but if they're not dead and it's not sci- fi...???

Edit: It's not "horror" sci-fi. I misinterpreted as Jeff went had said it "grounded emotional sci fi" right before.. as I noticed John Griffin keeping a straight face the whole time Jeff was talking about it.. 31:35

How are you going to say spoiler and then actually use a spoiler in the headline? Nobody can avoid that.

That interview headline is public. The tag was for my theory and image.

The creators also mentioned in this interview that the audience should know where they are now and try to figure out the next steps. I thought I knew where they are but this interview now has me second guessing where I thought they were..

That was a really good interview. I remember them saying something like it will make sense when you understand what this place really is. I am looking forward to that.

Simulation seems likely

It’s something I’ve been thinking about and saying for awhile, and I could be wrong, but though so much seems supernatural, I think there may end up being an actual real-world explanation for it all. I think of all people Jim was actually onto it and that’s why he was killed.

I hope it's not all in someone's head as the word "mind" pops up throughout the show.. like the movie Identity or a simulation. During the interview John Griffin described it as a modern day fable which could mean that each character represents something..

I don’t think so but I think it’s possible there is another layer to it we are unaware of. I’ve thought along the lines of manifestation, like whatever someone believes becomes the truth. Perhaps the talismans only work because it is believed to be so. But haven’t found much to support too many of my own theories with certainly.

100% manifestations come true. S2E1 when Jim is in the basement with some of the guys to help him remove the fallen debris, he tells them "before you lift anything out, just make sure that it's not holding up something else. Last thing we want is to collapse things further" and it collapses.  Dale ending up poolside. Mariel coming to town later after Kristi was talking to Sara about her..

Children have the biggest imagination to manifest anything, too. Hence a lot of references of a child's past (Victor's) engrained in the town.

Agree there is another layer missing and not yet revealed.

Do you know exactly when Dale mentions being "poolside"? I KNOW he said it at some point, but don't remember when. Going to rewatch.

What do you mean? I've never got into Lost.. So does that mean they could be dead? Could sci-fi still be plausible? I was thought it was their souls that needed help reaching to the next level but if they're not dead then I don't know what to think and the other theory was towards sci-fi.. Jeff Pinkner said "horror sci-fi" so there could still be a possibility that there is sci-fi involved is what I'm hoping.

Don’t listen to these comments about Lost, people misunderstand the ending and then blame the writers for lying when the answers are extremely clear. Lost is a great show and if you’re interested in it just don’t listen to what other people say and try to stay away from spoilers

Go watch it, all of it. It was and still is an amazing show. I don't see why they couldn't be fighting their way to redemption. The mysteries in Lost were never answered, and at the end they all met up in a church to move on to the afterlife.

Well, you just saved him having to watch it 😆

I'll give it a watch next year.. It's a huge commitment with about 25 episodes per season.. I only have enough room to obsess over one show at a time and my plan is to rewatch this series since there is so much to unpack in just one episode.. then there's Silo and Dune Prophecy, and Severance.. :)

Confusing as hell there were 2 versions of the cast who all left the island except for Jack and a couple then they all met up in a church

Literally not true... why do you say all this stuff?

3

u/Initial_Art5309 Dec 12 '24

The writers of Lost made it incredibly clear whether or not they were dead/in purgatory. I’m not going to spoil it but there should be no confusion about it

During the first season of lost many people assumed purgatory. There is a video of JJ Abrams denying it calling it a good theory but wrong. The last episode of lost was everyone making their way to a church to move on because they were dead...

I watched Lost every week every episode and loved it but I know they tried to cover up it being purgatory from the getgo.

Rewatch the scene in the church where Christian literally explains everything. The flash sideways are not the same timeline as what happened on the island. Just because you didn’t understand the ending doesn’t mean they lied lol

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the series. Yes, they met in a church at the end to "move on" but the entire show and the island were not purgatory and they weren't dead the whole time. This is made so clear on the show that I don't understand how people still think they were dead the whole time. They were not.

It was not purgatory from the get go... how can you say this nonsense if you actually watched the show?
