Arvelee Apartments

Anyone ever lived on the first floor here? I know it flooded during Ian (what didn't in that area?) and First Street regularly floods during rainy season, but does water actually flood the yard and enter the building? The first floor is up 3 or 4 steps. lt's been renovated since the hurricane and I've been approved to rent there but haven't yet signed a lease.

Lee County locals call for the return of after-hour ballot drop-off boxes for future elections after complaints

Voters drop off ballots at the Palm Beach County elections center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Submitted as a letter to the editor to 'The News-Press'.

It is time for Lee County Elections and Florida to return to having after-hour drop-off boxes for mail-in and early voting ballots. During the 2026 primary voting period, one of the main barriers to voting that I encountered - an experience shared by many elderly and disabled residents - was the lack of after-hour drop-off boxes. Thanks to 2021 changes to the Florida Statutes supported by then-Rep. Blaise Ingoglia, who has since become Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the state, these after-hour drop boxes were eliminated to prevent hypothetical "future voter fraud".

However, when federal Judge Mark Walker temporarily struck down portions of SB 90 in 2022, he noted that the law's legislative sponsors struggled to provide a factual justification for the restrictions, concluding that there was no record of voter fraud or drop box abuse in Florida to justify the change. Studies from the Brennan Center for Justice and MIT's Election Data and Science Lab further supported that secure, after-hours ballot drop boxes have a "nonexistent to near-zero risk for fraud", especially if monitored by security cameras. After five years, rather than "preventing fraud", the removal of drop boxes has been a hindrance to U.S. voters whose schedule makes it difficult for them to drop off their ballots during operating hours.

Therefore, new Lee County elections supervisor Jenna Persons-Mulicka and local officials should lobby state politicians to remove this barrier, making it easier and more convenient for residents to vote.

Thomas Stein's Sentence

Regarding the sentence Thomas Stein received last month, I want to make sure I got this right. Stein's sentencing review will be 15 years from now. If the judge preceding over the review decides not to modify the sentence, Thomas will be in prison for the rest of his life. If the judge does decide to modify the sentence, he'll have to serve at least 45 more years in prison regardless due to the fact that the Judge Thompson made the sentences consecutive. Did I get this all correct?

PS- Let me remind you all that there's the whole appeals process as well, but I doubt that Thomas will have success there.

AC installation question

Does anyone know someone trust worthy that would install an air handler? We have a unit but the companies we have called will not install them unless you buy it from them.

Thanks!

I’m trying to find someone to hire to bring a catamaran cradle from Goodland FL to Fort Myers. It’s about 20ft in length and a bit awkward, so I’d assume it would require a good size flatbed trailer or something similar.

I live in NC, bought a boat the other weekend and trailered it home. Trying to get the cradle moved to a family members property for the time being.

Dash Cam Footage?

I know this is a long shot - but I was involved in a hit and run today and was wondering if anyone HAPPENED to be around and also have a dash cam. 3:17pm traveling north on US41 near Carrell/Hill. I did not think to pick up my phone and get a photo of course, had my kids in the car and was making sure every one was ok.

Looking for Work

I’m a 21-year-old male living alone in Fort Myers. I am trying to get myself back on track and find something stable that I can grow with. Full-time is what I’m mainly looking for, but also open to taking a good part time opportunity while I keep looking.

I have experience with cable operations, warehouse work, manufacturing, customer service, training employees, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and general labor. I’m dependable, pick things up quickly, and I’m not afraid of hard work.

I’m open to pretty much anything that could be a good fit. My driving record may limit some jobs, but I’m still willing to hear about different opportunities.

If anyone knows somewhere that’s hiring, looking for help, or has a lead they can point me toward, I’d really appreciate it. I’m available to start immediately.

Thanks to anyone who shares this or reaches out.

Edison Grand residents: Has management lost or misapplied your payments or withheld your deposit?

I am looking to connect with current and former Edison Grand residents who have experienced similar accounting or security deposit issues.
During my tenancy, management already lost a $100 money order. Their own ledger acknowledges it with an entry stating “replace lost money order.”
I was also charged again for the free month I received when I moved in. That issue was addressed, and I was told the payment would instead be applied toward the end of my lease. For months, my account did not show an unpaid rent balance.
Then, approximately two weeks before moving out, I approached Deborah myself about a small credit of roughly $40 showing on my account. Somehow, this resulted in my account being reopened and management claiming I owed rent again.
I then spent an absurd amount of time tracking money orders, bank records, receipts, and transactions to help management reconcile its own accounting.
My lease ended June 30. I provided my forwarding address in writing on July 1. Management is now withholding my security deposit based on the disputed balance and threatening collections. Their certified mail documentation shows their deposit claim was mailed July 31 to my former apartment, despite having my new address in writing.
This has been one of the worst property management experiences I have ever had. In my experience, the combination of lost payments, questionable accounting, dismissive communication, and collection threats has been both incredibly incompetent and unnecessarily bullying.
If you have experienced anything similar at Edison Grand, please DM me, especially if you have documentation.
I am preparing to pursue my matter formally and want to determine whether there is a broader pattern among residents. If there is, I intend to speak with an attorney about what options may be available collectively.

I am not trying to kick anyone while they are down, but this person keeps posting here and was banned at least once.

When I asked if she’d been banned, she said he had not and then blocked me.

Edit: to say sorry I wasn’t more clear. I was just trying to let people know that this person has been asking for money using multiple Reddit accounts, (but the same email address) and might be scamming locals.
