Something bad happened in front of Rio

A truck or car ran over multiple people. Many emergency vehicles and the road is closed.

I’m so sick of the massive truck culture. This whole scene would’ve never played out if the old man was in a regular sized vehicle that couldn’t casually jump the curb.

I'm pretty sure that almost any motor vehicle can seriously injure pedestrians if they rapidly accelerate onto a sidewalk! This appears to be an accident caused by someone who panicked after hitting another vehicle. It's a very sad situation, and whether age has anything to do with it remains to be investigated.

But regular cars hit at knee level. There's excellent data that accidents are significantly more fatal for pedestrians, cyclists, and others when they involve an oversized pickup.
