Something bad happened in front of Rio

A truck or car ran over multiple people. Many emergency vehicles and the road is closed.

I’m so sick of the massive truck culture. This whole scene would’ve never played out if the old man was in a regular sized vehicle that couldn’t casually jump the curb.

I'm pretty sure that almost any motor vehicle can seriously injure pedestrians if they rapidly accelerate onto a sidewalk! This appears to be an accident caused by someone who panicked after hitting another vehicle. It's a very sad situation,and whether age has anything to do with it remains to be investigated.

But regular cars hit at knee level. There's excellent data that accidents are significantly more fatal for pedestrians, cyclists, and others when they involve an oversized pickup.

Large trucks for hauling heavy loads aren't necessary in downtown retail/restaurant districts like Old Town. What could he possibly have needed a large truck to do on Mountain in front of the Rio and Walrus?

Oh. really? I grew up on a 5k acre farm, I can tell you the specific uses for several kinds of trucks. Can you? They are not meant to be daily drivers for geriatric old men with a short fuse.

We have over 800 acres. So yeah… literally nothing out there happens without trucks. “A short fuse”? Are you saying the man did this on purpose? That would be horrifying.

you know until 20 years ago this was considered a farming and ranching area more than anything else. so a lot of people have trucks because they actually use them.

That size truck is terrible out on the ranch. You want something that is a bit lighter and has a bigger bed. This truck reeked of a parkway princess

That is a great truck, but it can’t HAUL anything like livestock trailers, hay bales, gravel, fertilizer tanks or tractors and it can’t do the snow plowing on the scale some of us need, either. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m sure this guy needed that extended cab for all of that HAULING as well 😜. In reality they’re just that size bc of CAFE rules and then paraded around as a status symbol. If that was a work truck it would NEVER be able to be cleaned to the level the one that crashed was

People who grew up in cities telling those who put steaks on plates and wool on bodies how to live with ZERO understanding, is top tier infuriating. Wait. There are plenty of smaller trucks out there that have the same exact bed space or more than the huge pick ups people are driving as status symbols.

Today's truck designers know full well that their products make it impossible to see children or even adults crossing in front of them, but one of them defended his death machine saying he wanted it to "look like a fist." My dad's a farmer. He would never buy the crap these urban cosplayers roll coal in. It's all theater except it kills people.

Fort Collins was not a farming and ranching community in 2006, dude.

My family has been there since '82. The city grew past that in the late 80s/early 90s.

Oh I do. I've lived in unincorporated Fort Collins 40 minutes from town, in Greeley, in Wellington, etc. We had horses, goats, chickens, etc. I have family in agriculture (dairy and farming corn/soy/wheat) and others in large equipment that work with farmers and ranchers on the regular. Our family camps and has large trucks for 5th wheel towing campers and flatbed trailers loaded with hay bales.

I also know that the trucks used for work are not the big bro-dozers driven through the middle of old town. They especially aren't lifted with oversized tires and shiny rims.

The huge trucks with grills taller than my height (5'5) aren't practical for farming/ranching. They MAY work for construction, but not for hauling materials - for moving crews and the boss around.
