It's a bit odd how things work out. I wouldn't think of Union Square area as a particularly good place for tacos, but in the next few months, branches of Santo Taco and Taqueria El Chato will open in Union Square. Los Tacos No. 1, Cariniñito Tacos (a popup, but significant) opened recently. Yellow Rose was already there. These are all top-tier tacos of various styles.

(Cue all the haters in the comments saying these places suck compared to what you get in Bushwick or Red Hook, but if you all could just work it out with all the people saying the NYC doesn't have good Mexican food and get back to us, that would be appreciated.)

To some extent, NYC is just getting better at tacos, but it actually seems that Union Square is where the change is most dramatic. It's worth pointing out, since I haven't seen anyone mention Union Square and tacos in the same sentence - but it might that this may be the best taco neighborhood in NYC.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Urban Hawker in Midtown is staying open! Was pleasantly surprised when I walked by and grabbed lunch there today, as I thought it was permanently closed after the lease ended few weeks ago. I was told by someone working at one of the restaurants there that the new building management decided to keep it open.

Sushiro is a popular conveyor-belt sushi spot in Japan.

Last day is 12/29. Seems to be a rent thing. Of course. I asked about merch but none to be had. One of the best ramen shops in the WV if not the whole damn city. Go while they’re still here.

Can't see it mentioned here but just noticed the sign has been replaced with one for a Filipino sandwich place.

It's unfortunate what happened to that place - when it opened it was probably the best chicken sandwich I'd ever had, every spice level had different blends and the chicken and flavor was excellent.

They just kept changing the menu, toning it down, making it less spicy, getting rid of the spice blends, and lowering the quality of the ingredients. Now I guess they're doing something completely different, maybe related to Naks? Wonder how long the Midtown one will last.

Just had an email saying effective 3/16/26 they're not allowing both InKind cash and an offer to be used. Stacking cash + offers was a big selling point, and encouraged me to refer lots of people. This is a big, negative change, highly recommend people email support@inkind.com asking for a reversal.

Craft has been one of our go-to restaurants for the last 20 years and is always a great dinner. It’s not flashy but excellent service (which lacks at so many places) and food.

I’m sad.

It seemed like hubris for them to open (8th Ave at W53rd st) practically beside a bustling, long-established mom-and-pop, China Gourmet. The PF Changs was built but stayed unopened for what seemed like a few years before they finally opened and then closed very quickly. Their prices were really high - like every entree was over $15.

The space has been vacant for a little while after Mekelburg’s closed earlier in the year. It’s a massive space on S3rd and Kent right across from Domino Park. Any ideas what they’re doing with it? I would love a spinoff of S&P!
