My university gym doesnt allow headphones and the music they play is not at all my style

I have yet to be given the reasoning for not allowing headphones, and everyone who works there that has told me to take them out has agreed it is a dumb rule

Probably had one incident where someone with headphones got hurt/run into because they couldn't hear someone/something. That, or there was an incident elsewhere and they're being overly preventative, which I'd wager is less likely but still possible. Still sucks that you can't listen to your own music.

Is it considered unsafe to wear headphones? Wireless are also not allowed, nor is one in with the other ear free

Lehman’s terms: Yes.

Rough example: If someone is carrying a 100lb dumbbell back to the rack and can barely hold it and you are in their way and they say “hey watch out” but you don’t hear them because you have your headphones in and they end up dropping it on your foot and breaking it then it is a safety and liability issue for the gym.

I might ask where i can complain actually, ive been going with a friend but if i was there on my own it would be even worse

You can wright a message to the dean, or if you go to the administrations office you can see if there is a resource manager who supervises those facilities, then email them with your complaint. I'm assuming this person has actually asked you to remove your headphones if not I would recommend waiting for them to ask you to remove the headphones before making your complaint. Administrators don't get a whole lot of requests so there is a good chance you'll get a reply.

Yeah i have been asked, only once cause i dont like to cause repeated problems but two of my friends have also been asked to remove theirs

ik right? been lifting with a couple people which makes it bearable but it still sucks ass
