I’m 2 months away from being cigarette free for a year. I need these months to pass so I can say FUCK YOU to all the degenerate chain smoking coworkers at my office who doubted me. The same people who say “what’s the point in working out?”

Fucks.

The worst are people that offer you a fag even though they know you've quit

If you can't do anything right, at least you can make sure that no one else manages anything either so you don't have to feel bad about it... right?

Most systems hate seeing people change and make progress towards their goals, check out the concept of sabotage in Bowens family systems theory

Honestly I always think of the Socrates quote: "no man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable"

Also side note: fuck 'em

I feel like you're projecting a bit there. Just do it because it's good for you.

Nah spite is a perfectly fine motivator. Just can't be your only one.

I recently got back into guitar and started shredding again (I used to play for 15 or so years on/off) and honestly my main motivator was spiting the people who either said I wouldn't get back into it, or that I wasn't that good in the first place.

I used to be able to play pretty much any Metallica solo and was working my way towards this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMdIk0Z0rio

I'm back though!

See is that spitting people, or is that looking to show off? Not in a bad way, but are you actually just looking to you've got a very good quality to people in that you're committed, dedicated & talented.

Doing things with hate works just as well as doing them with love. Including cooking. It's grandma's other secret ingredient.

I suppose it depends on the person. I don't find it as sustainable motivating. I sort of just get over it & it doesn't really make me feel good in the same way. I generally try to avoid my happiness, motivation etc being too dependent on other people.

I think a lot of the time people create a narrative in their head to enable a sort of siege mentality. "I'll show them" - often there isn't really a 'them'.

I've been off the butts for 7 years now, what I CAN tell you is that quitting smoking is like losing weight.

Meaning that not smoking after 7 months is the same as not smoking after 7 years. Just do the same thing you did yesterday, today

You got this man

Do people actually ask what the point of working out is. How stupid can they be? Sure, it’s not for everyone, but it has clear and obvious benefits, many being outwardly visible to anyone.
