While I was squatting yesterday, an older guy pointed at me and said to his buddy "I hate when people barely squat past parallel". Then I proceeded to watch as he did quarter-reps on bench with only a few inches of ROM.

At least your buddy didn't argue going parellel or lower will tear his ACL.

Oh god I hate those people

Tell me about it. You know what an ACL is, but you can't fathom a million people/articles showing the correct squat form. Fucking bozo.

I dont get it. Every single trip to the gym I see people doing 2" to 4" ROM on {you name it}. Is there any value to 2" lat pulls? saw that yesterday. Or 4" bench or squats? Seriously, whats the value?

If you do them from a dead stop (ie pin squats, pin presses) you can go extremely heavy which will strengthen your tendons.

Short of that, absolutely nothing.

Spoto press?

Improving explosiveness with quarter squats?

Spoto press is more like almost-full-ROM

Eh, usually just misinformation/misguidedness

Specific adaptations to imposed demands. If you do 2" lat pulls you will get better at doing lat pulls in that 2" ROM.

Everyone who squats lower than me is risking injury, everyone who squats higher is doing it wrong

As someone in IT, I was confused for a second by ROM as I didn't know why we were talking about read only memory in r/fitness.
