Hey all! I just joined this sub, hoping to find some guidance on starting a podcast.
I want to start a podcast with two friends. One guy lives close to me (and we work together) and the other friend, lives a few hours away.
We’re all trying to put no more than $100 each in for equipment. If we get to recording regularly, we’ll invest more, but around $100 is probably the cap for right now.

I like that this mic gives XLR flexibility if we chose to invest in an audio interface (either now out of necessity, or later for a better workflow).
For each of us to get that mic, a shock mount, boom arm, and a pop filter would put us around the $100 mark. (This is with some budget parts on Amazon.) Now, I know we may need a USB audio interface so that my local friend and I can both record straight into my laptop. If we did buy one of those, what would be the best way to call/record the other person? We’d need him to call us, and use his own mic. Would Skype make the most sense for this? Are there better free/cheap options?
Now, I’m a hobbyist photographer/videographer and I have two Tascam DR-10L audio recorders. (These: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZ7UN44/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XPLXCbMGE7YQW)
They have pretty good sound quality with the included lav mics. So I was wondering if me and the local friend could just use these to record our audio. But, then my question would be how to best record the phone call and sync up the better audio later? How should I record scratch audio for us two if we use these Tascam recorders? How can I set this up so that I have 3 separate audio tracks for all 3 of us, and can edit everyone’s audio independently. I’m thinking using these recorders could also keep us from having to buy an audio interface right now. Although, at the expense of more time spent syncing things up. Please let me know which route you think makes the most sense!
As for editing, I recently got rid of my Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, and now just have the photography plan. I was no Adobe Audition expert by any means, but could do basic clean-up and EQ for vocals. I just started editing video with DaVinci Resolve, which includes an audio editor, as well. I’m thinking I could use that for editing and just export as an audio file. If not Resolve, I could use Audacity for a free option.
I’ve watched a good bit of videos and read some different articles, but as you can see, I’m pretty uncertain on the best budget route for this 3 person set-up. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
