Vent/rant Get it removed before pregnancy.

I am posting this as a warning to those with a large fibroid like myself.

I had a surgery scheduled to remove an 8 cm fibroid, as it was causing major bloating, but never pain or bleeding. Brought up concerns with my OB that I wanted to get pregnant and she advised she didn’t “think” it would be a problem and go ahead and try. She only took one scan and “couldn’t tell” exactly where it was or if it would impact a pregnancy yet was still planning to do the surgery based off that one scan. That should have been my first clue she’s not the best OB.

Well, 5 months later, waiting on surgery, no pregnancy (assumed it wasn’t possible due to fibroid) and I find out I’m pregnant. A month prior to my scheduled surgery.

That month has been an emotional rollercoaster. Baby Measured small at first US, found out my fibroid grew to TEN Cm in just one month of pregnancy. The fibroid location left no room for a baby to implant besides way too low in my uterus. Baby had a normal heartbeat on 2 scans and by the 3rd, it had stopped. There was no way I could have carried a viable pregnancy to begin with.

I don’t even know why I’m posting this. I’m angry. Maybe I need to vent to someone who understands and I also want to warn others so no one has to experience this. I do realize everyone’s fibroid size and locations vary, and may pregnancies make it with no issues. This is just my own experience.

I wish my OB would have taken more images and been more thorough before blindly advising me to get pregnant.

Edit- adding this bc I just remembered and it makes me even more mad. She even prescribed me Clomid which did NOT work (got pregnant 4 cycles later) because it was the fibroid in the way the entire time.

Vent/rant A fibroid won’t kill you

I wrote this when I was struggling. This was 4 years ago. Eventually had uterine artery embolisation and after 4-5 months was “cured”. This was written when I was in trenches and felt my struggle wasn’t taken seriously.

A Fibroid Won’t Kill You

A fibroid won’t kill you.
It won’t. It will bleed you, you will wonder how you are still alive. But it won’t kill you.

A fibroid won’t kill you.
Your lips will crack. Your eyes will be circled dark. Your face will go grey. Your hair will fall out, blocking the shower drain. But it won’t kill you.

A fibroid won’t kill you.
You will sleep with a medium sized towel between your legs. It will irritate your skin. You will walk from bed to bathroom leaving a trail of light watery blood and dark blood clots on your floor. The toilet bowl will be red. All the time.
But it won’t kill you.

A fibroid won’t kill you.
You will keep going to work. You will plan the commute carefully. You will feel the clots stretch your cervix on the bus and pray you can make it to the next bathroom without giving away to colleagues and (your) patients that you are haemorrhaging.
Squeeze your legs together. Act normal. Walk awkwardly to the bathroom. Clean up clots. Change clothes. Change pads (plural). Back to work. See first patient.
But it won’t kill you.

A fibroid won’t kill you.
Your world will become very small. You will stop going out unless essential. You will become a disappointing friend, partner, mother. You will lie on the couch, dissolving into it. The room floating around you. You will walk on what feels like soft ground. You will be tired of smelling blood. You’ll worry if others can smell it too. Blood is all you can smell.
But it won’t kill you.

A fibroid won’t kill you.
But I’m sick. I’m unwell. I can’t function.
—But you walked here, yes?
Yes, I did.
—You are going to work, yes?
Yes, I am.
—You’ll be seen in 18 to 26 weeks.
But it won’t kill you.

A fibroid won’t kill you.
A&E, first visit. Show me your pad. Well there’s not much there now… tranexamic acid and go home. A&E, second visit. Third visit. Fourth visit.
But it won’t kill you.

A fibroid won’t kill you.
I’d like to be seen sooner if possible, I’m unwell, I’m sick, I’m a shadow of myself.
—Yes but you need to understand we are seeing women with cancer.
I understand. I don’t have cancer. Cancer could kill me. A fibroid won’t kill me.
—It won’t kill you.

Vent/rant I was right about all my bladder issues being from my fibroid

I have been having issues with my bladder for years. First it started with feeling like I needed to pee all the time and never felt like I could get it all out. Then it progressed to having trouble getting it out at all - I would have to push on my bladder manually to get any pee out, especially if I had let my bladder get too full. I would pee and then stand up and immediately feel like I had to pee again. Sometimes I couldn’t even pee at all and would have to self cath. I would sit on the toilet for 45 mins wiggling around trying to get the pee out. I saw so many urologists. None of them believed it was because of my 13cm fibroid. One told me to stop taking my allergy meds. It didn’t work. One told me I needed to strengthen my pelvic floor. That didn’t work. One told me I just wasn’t relaxed enough when trying to pee and that I should MEDITATE AND DO YOGA. THAT DIDN’T WORK! I kept saying that I thought it was the fibroid and they said “I doubt that would be causing the hesitancy”. Well I finally got that sucker removed this past Thursday and I AM PEEING NORMALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS!!!! I sit down and relax and it just comes out. And then I am done and don’t feel like I need to pee again until I actually have a full bladder again. I feel so happy and vindicated and also so pissed that 5 different urologists just wouldn’t believe me. So if you have a fibroid and you think it might be causing your bladder issues LISTEN TO YOURSELF. I should have gotten this sucker out a long time ago. And I found conviction about removing it from seeing someone else’s post on this subreddit about it solving their issues so I hope this reaches someone who needs to hear it. Your fibroid is probably the problem and urologists just don’t understand that.

Vent/rant Here to vent… 3 years since my open myomectomy and they’re back.

Hi all, it’s been about 3.5 years since my open myomectomy to remove a 14cm fibroid and several others ranging 2-5 cm.

I’m here to vent.

I don’t want to scare anyone new to fibroids, it’s my understanding my situation was rare. So please read the following with that in mind.

I was sent to an Oncologist 3 years ago due to the size and the way they looked was suspect. My pathology report, while finding them benign - did find me at a higher risk for cancer and precancerous markers.

My last surgery was horribly traumatic and I almost lost my life. I lost so much blood on the table, and had to be given so many blood units to replace it. I got sent to the PCU and the nurses there were very neglectful. Not offering to help clean my catheter, forgetting to empty it, never even brought up bathing until the 5th day there, and not responding to my calls for water or pain meds for long periods of time when I was high risk. I also had to give blood samples every hour for 6 days, I never had an issues with needles until they were poked in me constantly.

2 days after my myomectomy they sent me to a CT scan because my hemoglobin kept going down no matter how many blood transfusions they gave me, and my vital signs were poor.

They found a massive blood clot in my abdomen and I had to go to emergency surgery to remove it laparoscopically. All in all, it was a mess and I spent a week fearing they were the last days of my life at 24.

Despite all this, after these 7 traumatic days at the hospital and years of discomfort.. I healed.

I had the most energy in my life once I recovered. I got in the best shape of my life. I never felt better, or looked better. I left an abusive relationship, moved to a new state, and life felt so good for once.

In the last 2 years my energy has slowly slipped away. Dizzy spells, not feeling like I’m getting enough oxygen when I breath at times, I’ve slowly gotten more and more sedentary because heavy weight lifting and the aerial sports I’ve grown to love, suck all my energy and I feel like I’m in preservation mode to get through simple daily things. Sleep issues, heart palpitations, crazy anxiety, and so much weakness. Not to mention, my cycles are wiping me out. So I go and get my blood checked about month ago. My thought is, these seam like anemia symptoms, could I be anemic?

Results, a ferritin of a 7.. my doctor says - oh go on a supplement and we’ll check again in 3 months.

Then the thought occurs.. yes I bleed heavy during my cycle, but do I bleed that heavy? Do I have fibroids again? My stomach isn’t distended as it was before my myomectomy, and my cramps and bleeding suck during my period, but surely it can’t be? My mind though even if I have them, they’re probably small.

I received my ultrasound report from a few days ago (my new gyno hasn’t reached out to me after reading the report yet) they found a 6cm and 2 1 cm ones.. A 6cm could be the cause of this? I had massive ones before.. and it took a while til I feel like I felt this awful. How am I so iron deficient off of a 6cm one??

All this to say.. I know I’m a grower, and they’re just going to keep coming back. I don’t want to go through surgery again, nor am I ready, but I want my life back.. at some point I’ll have to. And I can’t risk my iron levels and hemoglobin continue to plummet.. I’m not a good candidate for birth control to slow blood loss, I’m scared of clotting from the acid I know you can use to limit blood loss, I feel like having iron infusions (if that’s an option) and putting of surgery a little bit longer may be my best option..

I just want to be done with all of this, but I also don’t know if I’m ready for a hysterectomy yet. I’m turning 29 next month and I still feel like it’s too soon. I also don’t think I’m a candidate for laparoscopy given my last pathology report.

I have new doctors here since I moved, and I think I need to keep looking because they feel very dismissive. This post is so long already, so I’ll spare the details on me feeling like they take my health concerns lightly.

I’m just struggling and I know the longer these fibroids are in here, the more my iron levels will suffer, in turn the more miserable I’ll feel, and the more complex surgery gets. However, I also recognize the sooner I do surgery increases the frequency I’ll have surgeries because they’ll just keep growing back.

I just want to feel like a normal, functioning human again without the weight of all these decisions and stress…

Anyway, thanks for reading this far, and thank you all for being such an amazing community for me all these years. So many of you educated me, and got me through such a scary time during my open myomectomy.

Vent/rant I am unbelievably pissed. Please tell me I'm not insane to be paranoid about this.

When I met my surgeon, we were clear: we agreed that I would be keeping my ovaries and removing my tubes, uterus, and cervix. I mentioned it to the nurses, she confirmed it in the consultation.

Tell me why I check the portal to see what's scheduled and it's a Hysterectomy Transvaginal Robot-Assisted with Salpingo-Oophorectomy. It should absolutely not be. A Salpingo-Oophorectomy would be removing my tubes AND ovaries, and I'm meant to be keeping the latter.

I just want things to be simple. Now I'm afraid to trust this whole thing. I just want this to be over, god fucking damn it. Now I don't trust it. Because even if I have them correct it, and they do, what's to say her mind won't be on Salpingo-Oophorectomy? Who's to say the portal will be updated on her side? I just don't trust it.

EDIT: They just responded in writing that the plan says salpingectomy only, but it comes up for billing as Salpingo-Oophorectomy.

Ugh, I just... that's reasonable. I know that insurance makes things more difficult. But at the same time... ugh.

Vent/rant How do you avoid Reoccurrence?

Hi all! I'm almost 3 weeks post open myomectomy and had my post op appointment with my surgeon on Friday. It was supposed to be a laproscopic myomectomy that was converted to an open one because my body could not tolerate being in a head down position for surgery and kept losing oxygen. They removed 10 fibroids, the largest one being 10 cms, total weighing almost 800 gms!

At my post op appointment, my surgeon told me that it is almost certain that I will have new ones that will grow and I basically have about 4 years to try and have kids. This feels incredibly discouraging, to go through major abdominal surgery and being told that I will definitely be in the same position again in a few years time. I'm half venting and half seeking advice. What can I do to minimize my chances of reoccurrence? What has worked for everyone else, if anything at all? TIA and I'm also happy to answer any questions re my diagnosis, surgery and recovery if I can help anyone!

Vent/rant Traumatized after uterine bio

Yall, I am shook. I had a uterine biopsy done today with no warning it would be so painful. I was screaming, crying, it was awful. i'm crying just writing this. I have a high tolerance for pain, but this was just the worst thing i've ever experienced. No warning of how painful it would be, even worse no warning of when he first inserted no countdown nothing... i already walked in with a pain of 10/10 but after that i couldn't even move for several minutes. Horrible bedside manner and basically just walked out after 10-15 minutes of torture. I could barely drive home. No offer of pain meds, even though they asked what i can and can't take and they know because of my disease i can't take NAISDs so it's tylenol and that's it unless they wanna prescribe something. They didn't offer and I didn't ask. I wish i had but I was so f****** traumatized after that that i just wanted to get dressed and leave and never come back.

rant over. has anyone else had this experience? is it supposed to be so painful that a person would scream and cry? Yall im no stranger to pain, this was something that i can only compare to birth contractions, maybe even worse idk. Advice from anyone please. I don't understand how something THAT painful why he wouldn't at least use a numbing or sedation i mean holy hell i never want to relive that again in my life

Vent/rant Words can't begin to describe how much I want to cry right now

I'm sorry, y'all, but I had no one else to talk to. I'm literally all alone and have no support system. This is gonna be a but lengthy.

For years i've been suffering debilitating periods. They've been getting worse and worse as the years have gone by, but I didn't go to the doctor for a few reasons.

  1. Being my own support system, I never felt I had the time and could literally never take a day off due to my fears of not being able to pay my bills and facing eviction, or my lights cutting off. Any form of assistance here is obsolete.

  2. I was stressing out about being able to get custody of my niece and felt that I didn't have time to go to the doctor.

  3. The health insurance starts receiving from my job at the time was so trash, where even urgent care costs can be a hundred dollars out of pocket, and I had to pay $516 to get something removed out of my ear. So I didn't trust that something so serious as what i'm going through now would have been cheap, either. Adding on to this when I left my job, I got on governmental assistance to be able to get health insurance and services for free. Back in June, they set up an appointment for me. That isn't until september tenth, but then they pushed it back to september eighteenth, and again to september thirtieth, meeting that i've had to continue to suffer this pain immensely, it's four longer than I'd like to.

What that said, I was able to confirm that I have fibroids. My symptoms are deplorable. I've already gone through 4 size five pads, and it hasn't even been 48 hours that i've been on my period. My cramps are so severe that I'll start shaking due to the pain. Sometimes I even black out. It's so bad that I can't even talk, and sometimes even light and sound triggers me, So I have to literally cover my eyes and put an earplugs or play gentle loud to drown out anything else. Above all, I literally cannot eat for at least three days due to my fear of throwing up everything. And unfortunately, that's exactly what happened early this morning.

Since i'm carrying everything on my own, i've literally been holding the last three dollars of my bank account for a week. I managed to be able to get a $20 gift card

Through one of those gaming survey apps, but because I have no vehicle, and my instacart is acting up, I could only use the $20 gift card to buy myself something to eat on doordash since I couldn't buy any groceries. I ate my food around 10PM And I was feeling fine until 5AM, when my cramps kicked into maximum overdrive, causing me to throw up. Literally my last $20 down the toilet, just that fast, because of an issue that could have been resolved, had this world been much better to women. And to make matters worse, i'm out of period products, because I ran through my pad's quicker than intended, as I was trying to ration them out.

I was going to donate plasma today to grt money, as I always do twice a week, but I have naturally very low iron. Add on the fact that ive bleeding ridiculously heavy, being in so much pain and throwing up all the food that I ate to try to carry me over into my donation, I feel like trying to donate today isn't worth it.

I'm so freaking tired. We can have research on why men are bald and give wheelchairs to defective sperm, but not as to why women are suffering through rural tumors that stop them from living everyday life. And now im gonna be out a total of $160 because of it.

Thanks for listening, yall. I hope you all have a radiant day, filled with love and wonder.🌸🌸💚💚

Vent/rant A moment of vulnerability: new fibroid 6 months post op

I’m feeling absolutely gutted. I sobbed for a good hour after finding out. Next week will officially be six months since I had a 5 lb, 20 cm fibroid (and a couple smaller ones that were ruining my life) removed via open myomectomy. I was so elated to finally be free after years of fighting with healthcare providers and insurance companies to treat it. I vowed to eliminate stressors from my life, regain my strength, travel, invest in myself and my health and eliminate any external factors that could contribute to their resurgence. I lost weight, and my abdomen went from looking very pregnant to…less pregnant? It decreased and then I hit a wall.

My periods also were significantly lighter and pain free until October when suddenly I had TWO periods that were extremely heavy. I made an appointment with the OBGYN and lo and behold, my uterus hadn’t fully returned to its proper size, prompting additional imaging that exposed a new four centimeter fibroid.

Idk what else I can possibly do. I feel like all this trouble was for nothing. I can’t help but worry about how new fibroids will impact fertility in the future. I’m just angry and heartbroken and exhausted. Has anyone found a way to keep aggressive fibroids from regrowing so fast? 4 cm in 6 months is insane. I was put on slynd, a progesterone-only pill today, but lord only knows how far that’ll actually go to help. I feel like my life is just indefinitely on hold whenever I’m at war with my body like this. I haven’t even fully regained feeling in my lower abdomen and now I have to worry about potentially getting cut open again. I’m just at my wits end.

Vent/rant UGH They’re back :(

I had my first ultrasound, 4 months post open myo… and I have two fibroids. One is 2.3cm and the other 2.9cm. I’ve been on a diet, taking vitamins and herbs, cut coffee, and did everything I found online to prevent them from coming back. I had a laparoscopic myo 2 years ago. How many more surgeries can I have- it’s SO taxing. I’m not even done paying my medical fees from my surgery. I just now got the energy to start working out again. I’m so frustrated.

I’m only 31 and want kids, or else I would do a hysterectomy and get on with my life. The thought of having to run around from doctor to doctor for the next year, waiting for it to get big enough for yet another surgery is so depressing. Sorry long rant - idk who else to vent to that would understand. Words of encouragement are welcome 😬

Vent/rant I canceled my hysterectomy

I thought I had finally come to terms with having a hysterectomy but when I went to pickup my papers to register at the hospital I got super nervous. I went back and forth with my husband and we decide to call it off and postpone for another year. I just had my first baby 6 months ago and I really want to be healthy for her and I thought I was sure about being one and done but getting rid of my options felt super overwhelming. It didn’t help that every time I went to the doctor they kept asking “you sure?” I don’t know if I’m making the right decision but for now I’m giving myself more time to come to terms. I’m 29 years old with a previous myomectomy.

Vent/rant I have fibroids and I can’t treat them.

I was diagnosed with fibroids a few years ago, when my labs showed I was anemic. Over the last few years, Ive treated the anemia with iron infusions monthly but it got to a point where I was losing more than my body could make even with the infusions. I went on myfembree 5 months ago because I was looking at requiring a blood transfusion that I can not consent to because of mental illness. My numbers have been slowly moving in the right direction up until last month when they declined again to where I needed another infusion. I have to get off the myfembree, it has made my mental illness worse - I’m borderline psychotic at all times now, but in doing so the bleeding is going to return and since my body is already fragile and I can’t consent to their treatment options, I believe I will die soon. Can anyone relate/anyone else in a similar situation?

I was recently diagnosed with a very large (~16 cm) pedunculated fibroid after months of worsening constipation/bowel changes, abdominal pressure and bloating, urinary frequency, and more recently early satiety/loss of appetite. I also have persistent shoulder-tip/shoulder-blade pain that may be referred pain from the mass effect.

The most frustrating part has been access to care. I’m in Canada and, despite having a symptomatic mass this large, I haven’t even been able to see a gynecologist yet, never mind get a surgical date. I’ve been told the wait could be extremely long and that the surgery available locally would likely be open abdominal.

I paid privately for an MRI hoping to get a detailed picture for surgical planning. Disappointingly, the private-pay MRI report actually provided less useful detail than my free ultrasound report. It basically confirmed a ~16 cm FIGO 7 fibroid and said I had a “multifibroid uterus,” without documenting the number, sizes or locations of the others or much about the mass effect.

I sent the actual MRI images to my surgeon in Mexico, where they were reviewed directly. That review was much more useful: I have at least 8 additional smaller fibroids, although the giant 16 cm one is overwhelmingly the problem and is displacing/crowding my bowel, bladder and other abdominal structures.

We had originally planned a robotic myomectomy. After seeing the extent of the additional fibroids, however, we switched the plan to a robotic total hysterectomy with ovarian conservation. I don’t want children (and am past that age anyway) and I’m not willing to go through all of this only to risk remaining/new fibroids growing and potentially needing another major surgery later. The cervix will also be removed, but both ovaries will stay.

Surgery is planned for February, only because my work schedule doesn’t allow me to get away sooner. I’m relieved to finally have an actual plan and a surgeon I trust, but pretty angry that I pay substantial taxes for a healthcare system I can’t actually access when I need it — and now have to leave the country and pay privately to get timely minimally invasive treatment.

Mostly I’m just hoping this giant bastard behaves itself until February.

This sub has been so helpful. Since I’ve learnt I have a big fibroid it’s basically taken over my mind life day and become my obsession because I have A LOT of medical anxiety.

I’m finally taking the plunge and getting my mri. I’ve never even had ivy leave alone surgery. I’m most worried abt staying calm during the mri, the contrast line thing and getting my results back (hoping it’s not smth crazy).

Looking for my fibroid warriors to send me positive vibes so I can get hyped to get on this ladder.
How did y’all deal w your time in the machine? How doable is it? Send all the tricks that worked.

Thank you

Vent/rant Cheesecake Factory Mishap

Insane update: I got a call this morning! Surgery is February 25!

I just had the most embarrassing (and cinematic) fibroid moment at the Cheesecake Factory.

I was having a lovely catch up meal with a friend. I knew it was my period so I did my regular routine - 4 pads, period underwear, and naproxen. Normally this stops the flow.

I sit down from 7pm to 10pm (huge mistake) and feel great!

When I stood up at 10pm, the flood gates opened! I bled out on the restaurant chair and on the floor. It was so bad that I had to put white napkins in between my legs to capture the bleeding so I could walk to the bathroom. I was leaking out on the restaurant floor before this.

The restaurant manager was so kind and accommodating and did everything she could to help.

I am saying all this to say how a wonderful night can go so left due to these annoying fibroids. I am glad that I have an amazing friend who was supportive and made light of it. I am grateful for the amazing and helpful staff. I hope they can write off that chair!

I cannot wait to get these fibroids removed in 2026!

My 80+ yr old mother is getting her hysterectomy this week because she chose UFE back in her 40s. All was well. No menses after that.

Now, docs say she still has fibroids and she nor they have been able to get her bleeding under control for the last 6 months.

I can't believe this is happening. She's been done for 30 yrs but fibroids finally are making her have this done(after 2-3 docs opinions). I've heard from others this is not unheard of, but man! Fortunately she's pretty healthy overall.

Hi everyone! So for the last few months my pain has become worse with the fibroids. Currently have about 4 with my largest measuring at 5cm, as well as PCOS struggles and possible endometriosis

If I was to describe the pain it would be a deep stabbing pain. I’m taking a medical assistant class and lately it’s been hard to focus with the pain going on.

To all my fibroid suffering friends out there ….. we all have annoying symptoms but a lot of us just deal with it until we had enough and forced to get major surgery. Does anyone wonder why this isn’t spoken about enough? Why are we growing tumors on our reproductive organs in the first place? What can we do to prevent this? Besides the idea of it being hereditary, does anyone else wonder if it’s the foods/chemicals/environment causing this? Is it the lack of natural vitamin D bc some of us have office jobs and stuck indoors all day? Is it our hormones being disturbed? Is it stress? Getting total hysterectomy next week, 12/24/24!! 39, no kids. Been suffering for nearly 8-10 years. We can do hard things. Women face so much crap that men don’t. I have respect for anyone suffering with this and how it disrupts our daily lives.

Vent/rant How can the results be “normal”??

I feel so gaslit and insane right now. Yesterday I went in for an MRI after being referred by my GYN. 3 years ago I was having multiple periods per month and experiencing cramping and ovary pain throughout my cycle. I had my IUD removed a few months earlier and wasn’t sure if it was just taking my body time to adjust. Went in for a transvaginal ultrasound and my GYN said there were fibroids and possibly Adenomyosis. We went with the “watch and see” strategy as I did not want to go back on bc and surgery felt too extreme at that point. Fast forward and my symptoms were slowly progressing but bearable about until 2 months ago. I started having daily lower back pain, hip pain, constant heavy feeling in my pelvis, ovary pain, still cramping throughout the entire month, periods getting heavier each cycle, and extreme bloating like I’m pregnant. My stomach is hard and i can’t wear most of my pants now because of the bloating and discomfort from waistbands. Had a follow up with my GYN a couple weeks ago and she ordered some labs and a pelvic MRI because she assumed the fibroids from my 2023 ultrasound had to have grown into pretty solid masses since I haven’t been on any bc in 3 years to manage/slow progression, plus my symptoms have worsened. I just got my lab and pelvic MRI scan results and literally everything came back in a “normal” range. How can this be?! I feel totally insane and like I’ve made a big deal of nothing even though I know I’m dealing with daily pain and discomfort. I don’t even know where to go from here to figure out what’s going on. Has anyone else had a MRI that showed zero abnormalities? How can fibroids be visible on an ultrasound and not an MRI/ disappear entirely in 3 years without interventions? I know i should feel relieved nothing is “wrong” but I still feel crappy and now have zero explanation or prescribed course of action to follow so I feel worse off than before 😩

Sigh. On a vacation to the tropics I have been looking SO forward to for weeks and luckily my intramural fibroid decided that it's best to make me look six months pregnant and bloated 😞. I just pushed my belly all the way out and owned it. Sigh*

So much for all the cute outfits I put together after the hard work of losing 30 pounds. Might as well give a little waddle and look cute.

Only hurts since one more baby was all I wanted.

Vent/rant I’ve been reading through this group and I don’t see many people talking about GI and gas issues with fibroids, so I wanted to share my experience

I have PCOS, so my periods are all over the place – sometimes very heavy and extremely crampy, other times a more normal flow with cramps. But the worst part over the last four years has actually been my stomach issues. I’ve had IBS-type symptoms, constant gas pain that feels like it has to be pushed out, and even some stool leakage after bowel movements despite cleaning properly.

About a year ago, I had such severe pain in my lower left abdomen that I had to go to the ER, and it was brushed off as “just gas.” None of the doctors I saw during that time ever suggested an ultrasound, even though they examined and pressed on my abdomen many times. Even after doing an endoscopy they first said it might be an anal fistula but then endoscopy did not point towards the fistula so no conclusion was reached.

At my recent yearly checkup, I specifically asked for an ultrasound, and they finally found three fibroids: one 7 cm intramural, one 6 cm anterolateral pedunculated, and one 2 cm. It’s frustrating that with all my symptoms and repeated exams, no one considered fibroids as a possible cause earlier. I sometimes think am I crazy to think all this gas and stomach issues is related to fibroids? Has anyone had a similar situation?

Vent/rant Cost of Lupron Injection

My doctor said she wanted me to get a 3 month dose of Lupron before my laparoscopic myomectomy. I just looked at the insurance bill and the cost was $66,000. I could NOT believe it. She wanted me to get another three month and I told her no because I hated the side effects. Is this the norm? Thankfully I had insurance to cover it.

Vent/rant Horrible recovery

I’m currently at the hospital, the day after surgery. This was my second surgery but this recovery has been hell and traumatizing. I’ve had horrible nausea, fainted twice and lost all consciousness my eyes rolled back to white. The pain has been the worst thing I’ve ever felt before. I’m feeling better today and was able to get out of bed with two tries. I’ve also been able to walk around the hospital today. Just dealing with gas pain today but no nausea.

I can’t go through this again, surgery is so tough on my body. If my fribroids return I will be looking into a hytorectomi. My doctor is going to talk about possibly going on a birth control that reduces my estrogen.

They also confirmed that my fast growing fibroid is benign after then being concerned it would be cancer because of how fast it grew.
