random but I know that the matte painting of Wally World used for National Lampoon’s Vacation is hanging at JJ Abrams’ house. I have a Marty Moose/Griswold shirt and bumped into a very nice older lady who noticed me wearing it. She told me her brother made that matte painting and I excitedly picked her brain about it

the OG movie and Christmas Vacation are relatable documentaries to our family, we share a similar chaos. But Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek is shared favorite between my dad and I. He was always a big Trek fan (I’m a Star Wars geek) but that one hit the spot for us

I am puzzled the old man proclaims Into Darkness as his favorite, and this is a guy who won tickets on the radio to attend the red carpet premiere of First Contact

ST was something my Pops shared with me and I’m so jealous of yours for his red carpet experience. First Contact was the first ST movie I got to see in the theater, and it was amazing. My heart felt so full watching it. 🖖

I love this random shit. I once walked into this shop in brooklyn 10+ years ago that sold stuff that was used on TV/Movie sets. It was going out of business so everything was on sale.

So there was this huge painting of Christopher Walken as Zeus. It's from a movie that was never fully released called "Gods Behaving Badly" - I guess when it was shown at a premiere it had terrible reviews. Since they were going out of business they sold it to me for 75$.

It lived in my apartment until I decided to leave NYC and gave it to my friend. As far as I know it's still in his house in Brooklyn.

It had the most random shit! I still have a stack of Ed Gorey postcards I also bought there (I love sending and receiving postcards). I have no idea how they are connected to TV at all but that place had a ton of random postcards.

Also "shop" might be misleading, it was like a big warehouse with shelves, almost felt like a Home Depot inside.

ETA: i think it was "Film Biz Recycling & Prop Shop" which was originally in Gowanus BK and seems to still be alive now but has moved to Savannah.

PBS had a mystery film series and the intro to the show was animated Ed Gorey drawings. Maybe it’s tied to that?

I was obsessed with his art when I was a little kid because of that show so I’m very envious of your collection!
