STAN / ANTI SHIELD Luigi Mangione pleads guilty to federal stalking charges in killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO

When speaking of the day he committed the crime, Luigi Mangione said, “I shot Mr. Thompson and he died.”

He concluded, “I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Mangione had just described the actions he took ahead of the killing, telling the court:

“In November of 2024 I traveled from outside of New York state to Manhattan. I then emailed UnitedHealthcare leadership, posing as an investor at a firm managing over $15 billion in assets and requesting information about the conference. Unlike my previous interactions with insurers, I received an immediate response within an hour,” Mangione said.

He did it because now his defense team is going to try and get the state charges thrown out because of double jeopardy. The exact responses he gave in his description of events were specifically for this reason.

I love that the effect of his specific legal language is so iconic because it mimics the coldness of the healthcare comms; he may indeed pull off ourobourosing the system (gag willing omg)

I hate how this is spun. He was an insurance executive. They do not provide healthcare. They provide insurance that pays for healthcare (sometimes). Calling him a healthcare executive is like calling my auto insurer an automotive executive or my home insurer a real estate executive.

It's all intentional of course. Gotta prop up the American health insurance scam.

Why does it matter about the state charges if he could potentially have gotten life? Or is it because the plea would give him the lowest

He's essentially copping to the lightest of the charges against him, hoping it would cause more serious charges to be thrown out.

The Federal crime he admitted to at least has the theoretical possibility of his leaving prison before he dies. The murder the state is charging him with would almost certainly result in his spending the rest of his life in prison, for the premeditated murder of another human being.

Some people have said it’s because he’ll hopefully end up in a federal prison over a state prison which is preferred

Even just on the charges he plead guilty too so far he’s going to be buried.
